Go to Redside.

Just had to post this:

How much are you hoarding? I usually have a couple of pieces of common salvage on hand for those times when they marketeers do drive prices up (on both sides of the good and evil fence). But if you are hoarding a LOT of stuff, that is contributing to the problem of supply redside. By all means, hang on to some stuff, but don't hoard it all.
I will join you if someone suggests that supply isn't lower redside for things like recipes. But I think most people will agree with that, even the ebil marketeers. Salvage, on the other hand, is much cheaper. I love that part of redside... I don't have to pay through the nose to make recipes, and I can actually have lowbies afford to make their own accuracy enhancements, as Luck Charms don't cost you an arm and a leg (which is what it feels like at low levels blueside). I'm not a marketeer, either. I don't like taking risks. I tend to save up my merits to buy an expensive recipe and either use it or sell it, rather than rolling... even though I know I could make more money rolling (though my knowledge of how bad my luck is suggests otherwise). Tokyo's "buy a LOTG +recharge and sell it for cash" thing worked for my Stalker. I had maybe 1/3 of the enhancements I needed on him before doing the same thing, and I was able to buy the rest in a space of a few weeks afterwards... and I have a good chunk of the money left over, too. |
Quite a bit, I still have about 10 50's left to slot. Of all of my toons, I have 5 (7) fully slotted with IO's.
Stone/Fire Brute Dual built to the gills on IO's

SS/Stone Brute
DB/Stone Brute
Axe/Shield Brute with two IO builds.

I DO have a problem getting the items that I need red side from the market. I am lucky, I run tons of SF's, so I can always use merits other people are not so lucky. Yes I have seen the work of the "ebil marketeers". I have watched common salvage go through the roof because someone found a niche to exploit. I'm guilty of it myself at times. I will watch the suppy of Hami-O's dry up, then I will dump a bunch on the market at a slightly inflated price, and get it (escpecially for membranes).
Selling one thing to buy another only works when there is supply. I find that quite often the supply is close to zero or things are outside what I am willing to pay for the items that I covet.

A friend of mine recently came up with a new statement which he calls the Theory of Theories. Since this thread is all theorycraft, I thought it would be appropriate.
The theory is that every theoretical debate has three arguments, and that argument C is always correct.
Argument A: My theory is the truth, but I can't prove it.
Argument B: Your theory is a lie, but I can't prove it.
Argument C: Shut up.
Of course, this is just a theory. And I can't prove it.
Dispari has more than enough credability, and certainly doesn't need to borrow any from you.

I've addressed this several times, I'm not interested in doing market research. You want something proved, then prove it. This has been stated several times but you're either too thick to get it, or too intent on trolling to bother. Low supply is a flaw. Simple as that. A flawed market contributes to population issues. But then... you just repeat the same things over and over again without anything new to add to the conversation. What's the next bald faced lie you would like to tell in this thread?
Gearford, if the word that comes to mind for you is "term paper" any sort of higher education is going to be a rude awakening for you. Most of my posts are typed during loading screens on missions. Guess some of us can just type faster than others. As for serious posters in this thread... I have seen just about one. He actually bothered to post up some comparative numbers. Everyone else is just posting anecdotal evidence with no factual backing (myself included) and going "NANANANA YOU'RE WRONG!" But hey, I just have issues with people trying to pass off opinion or outright bad information as fact. Only caveat is, my opinion is right and yours is wrong! You want to tell me I'm wrong, then prove it. Otherwise that can really be said is that our opinions and experiences differ. |
Translated for readers: Evil will always triumph because good is dumb.
Translated for readers: I don't want to try redside because i'm comfortable with mediocrity. |
Have I mentioned that one of the reasons I spend less time redside than blue is because so many redside boosters are complete jackasses about it?

This is what I don't get...
No one in this thread started bashing people for not liking red side.
The only bashing that happened was because some people stated, with a very "my opinion is fact" tone, that they do not play on villain side because the villain side market is broken, because population is lower, or that they're had some terrible experience with it at some point.
And then when others, me included, stated that 'Hey, I think you're wrong in your reasoning because of anecdotal evidence, or because of <insert law of economics>, or etc.', they immediately got defensive over it, claiming that we're blind to the truth or something.
And now we're being called "red side boosters" who are being "jackasses about it".
We need a facepalm emote...
No one here is "defending" red side. People are questioning your reasoning and providing counter arguments. If someone is literally "defending" red side, and I managed to miss it, then I still need a facepalm emote...
Yes, I get it, you don't like blue as much as red, but if you sort through this thread (or basically any "which side do you like?" thread) you will find an inordinate number of personal attacks based on what amounts to a matter of personal taste. Now, granted, I would say there are blueside posters in this thread being jackasses too, but it seems to be the ground-level assumption among redside supporters that there is no possible reason short of mental deficiency to play a hero.
Several Minutes Later
Okay, so I just looked through this entire thread, and I have half an apology to offer. Why half? Well, first, I do need to offer something, because I was looking specifically for posts that offered personal attacks rather than actually talking about why they liked red vs. blue or vice versa. I have to apologize because this thread, other than Humility and the people flaming back at him, has been rather civil in that regard - people have had strong words about blue or red, but mainly directed at actual complaints of at least arguable substance. And Humility, yeah, you're being a jackass for blueside, thanks a lot there mate.
So why only half? Because one of the few personal attacks I found outside that line of discussion:

I do feel that there is a generally pervasive tone of smugness in red vs. blue discussions, but outside of the Humility Vs. The World flamefest here this thread has been pretty civil (and admittedly Humility Vs. The World has largely taken over this thread). Mea culpa on that; I was venting frustrations from other threads in one that didn't entirely merit it.
Sometimes you just keep waiting for Godwin's Law.
I will pass thank you very much. I get no enjoyment from being evil and the truth is I tried and I have not found one class Villain side I enjoy so even with going rogue I have no plans to move a Villain to Hero side. Maybe one day I will break down and get a villian super hign but so far I just dislike the classes

I keep the thread's asshattery in balance. Otherwise Blueside would most certainly prevail.

....
*huh* i play both sides depending on whim, and i feel both have good points and not so good points in terms of stories, mechanics, balance and theme. Thematically i tend to like blueside more since i don't find much appeal in either selfishness or baby-eating, which redside is more overt about. (i say overt because y'all don't want to know what the leaders of the core SGs in Paragon City serve at the buffet when they have their secret meetings.) In terms of gameplay and story structure i think redside has some advantages. i think my biggest complaint is that redside emphasizes working your into the good graces of the big bads for progression too much. The addition of a more mercenary starting contact was a good start, but from there i'd say there should've been more of a parallel track for characters who are more antiheroes fighting against a corrupt and oppressive regime rather than toadying their way into power, which is a recurring theme. You can play characters that way, but it takes a fair bit more effort to do.
So while i agree that more people should play redside i can see why it won't appeal to a lot of players thematically. i hope Going Rogue's Praetoria adds elements to increase the appeal of the Etoile Islands, though a more explicitly antihero themed storyline would help IMO.
Dr. Todt's theme.
i make stuff...
I'm trying to give redside an honest chance again, but....
Arrrgh, Arachnos. Why do Huntsmen and Widows have such ridiculous mez protection? I ran into a Huntsman in my very first mission and I had the misfortune of not having Domination ready for him. So he punched my face a couple of times.
High Level Longbow farrrr outpace Arachnos. D=
Stupid sonic grenades.
You are posting an observation ("Supply is low redside"), and a conclusion that was not reached by any stretch of logic ("The market is flawed").
The others are posting the same observation ("Supply is low redside"), but take into account the fact that population is low, which means demand is also low. In a smaller market, there is a larger gap between rich and poor. This is an economic fact, not an illogical leap. There is no flaw.
