(Starts respecing her Controllers into Psi epic...)

Also, Hamidon wars?

*Goes back into gamebooks and produced a huge bag of holding to collect the raid on Hamidon enhancements*

You know, when you read the background, he's starting to get a bit more shades of grey in his persona...

Since the first bits of information we've received on GR, I've had the thought come to my mind more than once:

What if Tyrant is right?

"Free will" always sound like a thing worth fighting for to those of us who live in afluent societies, but ask a starving mother in some a wartorn country where she can't provide food or safe water for her children to drink what she'd be willing to give up to make their lives a better place and I suspect the answer might be quite different ...

Kind of makes me wonder who will be the real heroes in GR ...

It was interesting to listen to the audio of the devs when they were in character as Praetorean citizens at Herocon. They made the point that there are LOTS of admirable aspects of Praetorea, and that Cole's mistrust/fear of Primal Earth is quite justifiable. His world has no dodgy nuke states like North Korea or Pakistan.

I really love when bad guys do what they do out of what they perceive as good motives rather than just being total nutjobs. I don't know how many of you read the web comic Girl Genius (I know Castle does!), but one of the great characters in there is the fascistic ruler of Europe, who is very much like Cole in that he is ruthless because he believes it's necessary for the greater good.

I wonder if Tyrant didn't quite win the battle of wills.

Think about it.

Then again, as I recall, he's also a Spark, and all Sparks in the Girl Genius universe are nutjobs when they're near machinery...

Just read the full bio. One word: WOW.

Positron: "There are no bugs [in City of Heroes], just varying degrees of features."

The effect of the monster's death was immediately apparent to the world. Devouring Earth attacks decreased dramatically. In some places, they halted all together. The war had turned a corner. The people cried out for the creature to be killed, and Cole agreed. However, nothing anyone tried could kill the creature. It seemed to be tied to the Earth itself. The best anyone could do was contain it.
The highlighted word should probably be "defeat" not "death."

Wow indeed!

Lots of depth and sides of the character I didn't know about.

Love the update, very cool background that casts Tyrant in a morally grey/heroic light.

I have a problem however.

Tyrant looks amazing. That costume, the armor, the colors, everything about it is very, very well designed. In contrast, Statesman looks like a bad version of a Captain America cosplay. Seriously, most of the Freedom Phalanx needs a redesign NAO.

Seconding that.

This makes me really want to dig deep into Praetoria Earth and learn of the superpowered political intrigues that boil under the surface.

Heh ... yeah, you're kinda right. I think it's mostly in the fact that Statesman's face guard looks kind of out of place with the rest of his costume, whereas Tyrant wears plenty of regal gold-trimmed armor that it all fits.

Maybe States should get a few more plates of armor to wear on his costume?

Hint: it's not the ones lead by a guy called "Tyrant"

Well, then again, the Baron's Greater Good is a bit more obviously the greater good since he still allows for some free-will, at least more so than the Other, and sparks are kind of nuclear states on their own.

In relation to this topic, here's what I read in my head: Positron: Oh hai, we upgraded ur Tyrant.

I'd like to ask all the 'heroes' of Paragon City a question...

So once you overthrow Emperor Cole, will you take responsibility for protecting Praetoria from the Devouring Earth, or will you just head back to Portal Corp congratulating yourselves that 'good' has triumphed?

(Wow, the RPers are going to be in heaven with GR...)

I like that Cole is being given a nicely complex set of motivations, even though I do enjoy Lord Recluse's "I'm Mr Villain, head Villain of Villaintown" routine. Hopefully the Resistance will be similarly portrayed as not 100% good.

Hmm certainly going to be interesting especially if Arachnos Soldiers/Widows are allowed to change sides, presents a real dilemma if they're the 'For Recluse!' type personality.

"Recluse is clearly superior to this...Statesman knockoff but if I choose to help the other side I'd be going against the law of Recluse, that only the strong should survive and the rebels are clearly too weak to strike out on their own...but if I bow before Tyrant I'm bowing to a cheap dimensional ripoff of that goody-toe shoes over the waters in Paragon...I didn't bow to Reicshman or Imperious I'm certainly not going to do the same for Tyrant...so which path do I choose in order to best serve Recluse?"

Sure - being a hero isn't a one-dimensional job

I kinda think this guy might actually be a little more power than our Statesman.

And with great power comes great responsibility - responsibility not to become a tyrant

Recluse has his own ideals too, he wants to establish the world as a "Survival of the Fittest" type of place

Not aimed at you directly, but anyone suggesting Lord Recluse is a one dimensional character, who fights just for the sake of being a villain and not for what he believes is right, just has a very bad memory and is easily distracted by shiny, new things
