Seriously, this is like saying sitting in the driver's seat make vroom, vroom noises is the equivalent of driving a car. Just because I'm somewhere that an activity occurs does not mean I'm partaking in it. Likewise; if I sit in on my friend's D&D session, eat all the cheese puffs and drink the Mnt Dew (and what's with that new spelling), and talk about the weather; I am still not roleplaying.

On the contrary, if you strengthen those around you then:

Now, granted, most of the reason I thought along those lines is that I got tired of trying to convince people that I behaved in certain ways because I felt that was "right" way to behave.
People tended to assume I was putting on airs of morality with certain tendencies and wouldn't leave me alone with trying to convince me that my behavior had no point. So I started looking for practical reasons for all my moral decisions.
THAT makes people leave me alone for whatever reason.
