But is all the event badges up until now have been soloable, shouldn't there be some team ones too?
The majority of missions can be soloed, but there are also TFs - so it's the same with event badges now.
Not every task in an MMO should be soloable.

Who said the majority's been soloable? I sure didn't. I said that the stuff that is soloable goes down to lower level toons for me. When it comes to Event badges, that's never been a whole lot of them. And I can't think of more than one or two that don't benefit from having a team while still being soloable - which I think is just fine.

Honestly, it's not the same as TFs because the only part that takes a full team (one, not two or three) is the forming. Occasionally the AV or simultaneous glowy clicking. We've duoed just about every TF of the numbered variety, though, so it's definitely possible. Which just goes to show that they can have "challenges" that can also be small team friendly. Some people just don't find large groups fun, especially when you either can't get together a large group or you can't function in the lag that forms.

But some people do find them fun, so it makes sense for them to have as wide a range of content as possible.
Some people like PvP, and some people don't - so they have some PvP content, and some and non-PvP content.

They're just trying to make the content as attractive as possible to the widest range of players.

But it's available each year - it's not like it's for one-off events, like the 5th anniversary, for example.
As far as I know, they've never removed a single thing from the normal events - they just add more stuff each year - so even if you miss out on getting everything for all your alts at once, you can finish it off next year.

I don't know if anyone knows the answer to this, but I was wondering: Any new costume pieces to go with the Santa hat, boots and gloves? I'm crossing my fingers for a fur-trimmed cape and/or hood ...

No new costume parts. A new emote though, Throwsnowflakes. It's pretty.

The removed the original missions that were in the first Winter Event. The one where Heroes had to go to Mercy to retrieve the presents, and Villains had to board a ship to steal presents being shipped to Paragon City.

While yes, they have been removed, I think those missions were only done to introduce villain only players to the hero side and hero only to villain side. That winter event was 2 months after the release of CoV.

On this day, the 1st day of December, I, The Rook, have looked deep into the winter winds for answers. I have watched the patterns of the snow flakes falling. I have observed for hours the activity of the woodland creatures both large and small. I have done all this to divine the answer to a not so simple question.

The question? When will the 2009 Winter Event go live for City of Heroes?

The answer? I predict that we will see the Winter Event go live for all to enjoy on Monday, December 14th at noon!!

Presents still spawning far below the level of the opener.

Was just hunting them in Peregrine Island on my main and the spawns are still 3 to 6 levels below my level and they aren't aggroing on me.

I've already lost interest, and if this goes live as-is I will be happy to ignore it. My main badge collector is a tanker, of course; and if you try to hold aggro on Lord Winter, all you can do is wait to die again. I was not amused.

What is the point of having this event spawn in Atlas Park? Even assuming giant monster scaling, you have to be at least 35+ to hope to contribute to this. The event as written is 50-only content, only for characters that can ignore debt. And like most cheap-gimmick fights - just like Mask debuffs, Vanguard, Sappers - it burdens melee more than range, and is specifically unfair to tankers.

After being able to preview this event yesterday, here are my thoughts:

1) Takes too many presents to spawn a Winter Lord in zone. I figure this is to combat the 'merit fest' from last year, but could you look into bringing that number down a bit? Bouncing around for 10-20mins on a full team gets tedious (and hey I have a lot of toons to go thru!).

2) I too would like to see more merits for defeating the Lord of Winter, as the WL GMs that ambush you give no merits. (Awarding 2 merits for the WL GMs is a fine alternative.)(Hmm I just had a thought; the Lord of Winter GM + 3 WL GMs = 8 merits, standard for each GM defeat... so my request may be unfounded.)

3) Also, adding to 'please rename Lord of Winter' vote pile. There probably isn't time for model make over, but a name change should be easy. What about Emperor Frost?

4) Great call on the event message when the WL GM is spawned; can we also get either an icon on the map or a distance counter similar to the Halloween Aspect GM? (Yes, I know the giant present afterward gets an icon.)

5) A note in the GMoTD about the new winter event being targeted for multiple teams, so players are better prepared when the time comes.

6) Kudos to the devs team for coming up with yet another holiday event that's a bit different from the last!

In the Sneak Preview of the Winter Event on 1 December I noticed that I would keep getting the gold message about receiving the Build a Snow Beast Temp Power but I only had one copy not multiple powers on my character. I was hoping it was like the Rock Temp Power where you got multiples during Halloween. Minor bug.

Just want to say that after trying event on live yesterday it has the same problem as last year, Santa stocking cap is WAAAAY too hard to get. Sure I know it's random but this is second time in a row I got Toy Collector before getting a Santa Cap. Took another 30 minutes of opening gifts after Toy Collector and that is a LOT of gifts.

Build a Beast seems the most common special and I have only ever gotten the cap off of a mystery gift temp power. So it is a rare on a rare to win. Just my experience.

Is it just me or is BNY glitching back into the cave after you exit with him more often than before?

I ran a series of tests and in about 1/3 of the cases, after freeing BNY and running to the cave door to exit and then exiting, it'd show him running off somewhere on the map to parts unknown. That means that out of three times doing the mission, he'd behave normally (in otherwords as stupidly as before) but on the third you either tried desperately to find him on the map and go through the door repeatedly or you'd say screw it and go farm LW.

As it is, the Rescue BNY mission should come with a disclaimer that it will raise your blood pressure by 10 points, every third time run.

I only tried the Lord Winter event during the preview, so I can't comment on anything else, but I hope there's some changes before the Winter Event begins. Here's my thoughts on the event:

1) I have to agree with the requests to rename Lord Winter. There's plenty of other suggestions, and anything has to be less confusing than giving him the same name as another GM but backward.

2) Please lengthen the timer by a few minutes. I think there were two full teams and some spares when I tried the event, and we were doing pretty well. We were making steady progress even with some people not noticing when LW was intangible. We still ran out of time though. Getting more people than that per run is going to be tricky especially toward the end of the Winter Event, and we can't count on everyone knowing what to do.

3) Please tone down or remove the greyout when LW goes intangible. It did make me stop attacking, but only because I thought something was going wrong with my computer. I think there was a suggestion to use the Hibernate animation a while back. Something like that would be much better.

2) at the end of the timer please let villains go to cap rather then mercy.
3) please tone down the number ot candy canes needed for the holiday respect.

I thought it was sort of interesting. Better than the supernatural Banner event, especially since it wasn't lagging the server and causing constant intrusive zone invasions. Didn't seem anybody was confused by what to do when he phased out until his GM guardian was beaten, either, unlike the banner event.

he does have a sorta dorky name. but, hey, maybe DC will sue them if they name him Mister Coldsnap IT'S ICE TO MEET YOU!

Why can't the Winter Horde use the rikti merit code for candy cane drops, though? I just suppressed bosses since they're only worth 1 candy cane be it minion or boss. Never was subbed during a winter event so I have a lot of junk to buy from those elves, and with those instant Respecs costing 500 canes I imagine the cost for those salvage bits aren't going to drop below the 100k-500k per piece on the market (unless, maybe, on the last day of the event and people want to unload instead of hoard them for next december). Or maybe Big Daddy Snowman's realm could be guaranteed candy cane drops in the vein of the RWZ mothership raid's guaranteed merit drops.
