Greetings Players, We are noticing a lot of abuse using the Reputation Comments option when leaving negative rep for other players. This is simply unacceptable. If you want to leave your fellow posters comments please understand that these comments are also covered in the Rules and Guidelines. From now on those that are found to be abusive will have their Reputation reset to "0" (zero) making your rep power have little to no value and we will also be taking action against your forum posting account. The Rep system is nothing more than a forum game and a way for you to have fun with each other. It was not left turned on to allow players an anonymous way to abuse, troll and attack other players. First thing I do on any forum software system is to turn the rep system off.
I've never had it on, never checked it, and never will.
It's amazing how hopelessly naive the Mods are, time and time again.
Considering that my rep is pretty much garbage anyhow, color me not worried.

I'd love to see the system turned off. Frankly, IMO the boards are a bit much to moderate properly with the resources they have. They certainly don't need to divide their resources by moderating reputation comments as well.
Also, if they didn't require a comment for negative rep, they might get fewer inappropriate ones. I mean, almost by definition a person leaving negative rep is in a negative frame of mind - its a bit much to expect such comments to be full of positive feedback!

I think the whole company. Remember how AE was handled in I14? "Yes, the rewards will be less than content outside of AE, but it won't be that much less" ... yeah. like nobody was gonna abuse that.
Then again, I do prefer having developers that see every glass as half full... then every glass as a target to break.
It's just a game. A game you aren't forced into. Some people like it. If you don't care for it turn it off and don't look at the comments. If you like it but are getting abusive comments report it. I don't understand the people who want it fully removed since it's completely optional.

Having rep "turned off" ONLY means that others can't see what level rep you're at.... it does not actually turn the FUNCTION off.
Therefore, it is not completely optional.
Playing on the Forum Games threads is optional.
Leave a tool out for the trolls to use, and it will get used. duh.
Just disable the function completely, it's divisive and does not contribute to the forum community in a positive manner.

I really hope it didn't take Niv's comment for you to realize just how useless rep is. As a community we have farmed it, abused it, and had our fun with it. It wasn't the Mod's decision that rep is a forum game...they don't control how we use it.
If moderating negative rep comments is really taking that much of the Mod's time, then I agree it should be turned off. However, I find it amusing.

I still think that if your forum handle was tied to any and everything that you do on the forums, we wouldn't be seeing the junk that we do now. A lot of the tags that pop up are just as bad as the anonymous neg rep comments. I think that now the griefers will just neg rep without comment, happy in their anonymity. So I guess that moves me into the turn them off camp.

It's a fun game, too, I'm glad we have it.
Reading goofy rep comments (my own and those posted by others) is almost as entertaining as checking out thread tags.

I've turned mine off and am never going to check any comments again and never going to give anyone +/- rep again.
Oh, if you you think Tags are a forum game too, and aren't going to edit out the silly ones, then get rid of Tags, too.
