Rep Trolls Beware!
Whoever left me this gem: "If men were the final authority on what's sexist against women, then nothing would ever be considered sexist unless it hurt a man's feelings. Yes, women are better judges of what's sexist against us than men."
Thank you so much for brightening my day with your hilariously narrow worldview. Go take a womens' studies course or read Female Chauvinist Pigs. Your views of what feminism and sexism are need broadened.
For me, this is what neg rep is all about. People who are too cowardly to actually discuss something (usually because they don't know what they're talking about) trying to troll others. I get to read these little nuggets they usually wouldn't have the gall to try and pass off in an actual conversation. It's a fun game within a game within a game.
Aw. But its funny when people give me negative rep for such hilarious reasons as telling me that I roleplay on CoH or play WoW on the side are bad. and I quote. "A strong argument can be made that roleplayers ruin Pocket D for everyone. RPers are a blight on the game." or "If you like WoW so much, go play it and @#$% off our forums"
|
I've been told to go play WoW instead of reading/posting here. I swear to god, people are territorial jerks.

Most people who've been in the red and left their rep on have found that some people get them out of it. Some have too few posts for those people to really help with and so then they can only up rep so much. If everyone who hates the system does that (up reps those in the red) then it will show that the neg reppers that they don't win.
The thing is, most of us (well, ME at least) don't care if I have red or green dots. That aspect can be turned off, and is completely inoffensive. It's the comments that can't be turned off, and are frequently offensive ("offensive" is a subjective term. I'm sure there are comments that some would think offensive and others wouldn't).
If the comments would turn off when I turn off the rep system, then I'd be happy. If you want to continue insulting people that are willing to play that "game," then that's fine. You could do so, and I wouldn't be subjected to a "game" I have no desire to play.

I ignore plenty of people that I think are hideously ugly every day... I just don't look at them. Problem solved.

If I chose to post vitriol and hate, wrapped in lies every time I posted, I would expect to see my rep plummet. And rightly so. But it would be highly inappropriate for the comments (from the neg-reppers) included to be as spiteful.
I choose to try to post politely, accurately and as well-written as my limited education permits. I always have.
If I choose to +Rep someone, I do so because I like what they have written and think that they have left a positive note here.
If I choose to -Rep someone, it will be because I feel that they have earned that instead. It will not be done on a whim, nor will it be done maliciously or with ugly, nasty comments.
Should everyone have positive rep?
I still like the idea that the rep comments could lose the anonymity behind them or a very obvious "report this comment" button.
Sure they can, just don't LOOK at them. If you KNOW that it's possible that a comment might offend you if you gaze your eyes down to that part of your control panel... then just CHOOSE not to LOOK at that part at all. It's really NOT that hard.

The point is, I'm not here for your amusement. The point of these forums isn't this puerile game, and I should not be forced to deal with it in any way, however simple it may be to do so.
Besides, as has been noted several times, the comment list reappears often, and is disruptive to my enjoyment of the forums. That right there is enough reason to allow me to turn it off. It's like being able to put people on ingore in the actual game. If that spammer I've put on ignore could still send me spam (privately and anonymously), it would be considered a problem, just as I consider it to be here.

This is the for fun section. Posting here does put you here for my amusement. |
Nope, it absolutely doesn't (from the negative rep comment I recieved).
You can copy and paste rep if you want to comment on it...would make it easier for us to read I think. I prefer making a quote line myself.

There's one guy, for example, who's had a personal drama blowout because I don't respond to rep in the way he dictates.
This isn't advising anyone to not post or respond to neg-rep, btw. It's just information.

Copying and pasting rep to respond to it causes a lot of people to lose it for some reason. It's like they think that since it's only visible to you, that you should shut up about it. I liked one person who accused me of yelling at invisible people (despite rep comments being quite visible) and other people who describe any attempt to respond to statements made in negative rep comments as "whining."

I was all hoping for new posts and you made me pout.
This is an active thread and it would be topical.
That was for posting in a thread 2 weeks dead to yell at invisible people.

I'm shaking my fist at you. Can you see it all the way over there?
I posted it there because I wanted to respond and it was in that thread. I'm by far not the first person to post in a thread to say "Someone gave me rep for a two-week old post." After I answer this guy's question five or six times and he keeps re-asking it under the pretense that I was missing his point, I thought it was a bit dumb for someone to lecture me in my rep page about how I never answered his question.
Part of the problem with negative rep is that it being anonymous, it's not exactly simple to decide where to respond to it, if at all. Also, even excluding your own neg rep (which was amusing, btw - and wasn't the only funny neg rep I've received), I still get more than a few nastygrams about daring to mention the negative comments I do get. I even got downrepped for "whining about neg rep" when I laughed about some joking neg rep I got.

Since we are on the topic of rep comments; no it is not a diaper, I am wearing a cup under my briefs.
Also, I edited a lot of my post because the "hyperbole" comment was a bit much.

Yeah, I like that the thread is topical and lively right now.

Or somethign to that effect the original rep is long gone form view.

10-31-2009 03:39 PM - Why the **** are you such a jackass? Can't you tell it was a serious question by someone who doesn't know much about the game? ****.
And I'm supposed to reply to it? I don't really have a reply. Some comments, perhaps: It's a stupid comment and it made me laugh.
P.S. Did they actually write ***** or does that mean something was censored?

Well, I'm giving your rep to help balance out the dummies.
Don't take -rep personally, especially the stupid stuff (I got -rep for "double posting" the other day). As the old tune advises, Acc-centuate the positive...
