Rep Trolls Beware!
If there is no comment, they were giving +rep. -rep requires some comment (some people just put a period).
If the dot is grey, it means their 'rating' (not the same as their rep) is too low to affect yours. |
True. And I laugh my *** off every time I neg rep someone for saying something stupid and they "retaliate" and their neg rep is grey to me.
Things like that make my day.
I dislike the system and turned it off. Mostly because I have seen its abuse on boards where everyone knows each other RL.
It seems like a system that begs for greifing. Then the Mods are shocked that it is used for that? Seems a bit short sighted to me. If they pulled the original star system, why stick something in place just as bad if not worse?
I think a karma system would have been better. Where to give negative Karma, you must spend your own karma to do so.
There are posters I have disliked for years, and still do. I still have not taken the time to give them negative rep. Why bother, what do I gain by being a jerk to some guy/gal I will never meet?
Being able to turn it off is the only reason I still use these boards. For those who like it and want to use it, more power to you. I am not perfect, and don't want to be harshly judged for my imperfections, so I will refrain from doing it to others.

All my rep comments just disappeared.
Those were my badges of honor. I hope it's just a bug . . .
Oh, and the Positron Rep comment was pure gold.

I just noticed that I can no longer see any of the silly anonymous messages from the rep trolls anymore. Indeed, there was one regarding the previous post I made in this thread which implied I was being hypocritical, apparently because I'd -rep'd someone anonymously? For one, I've not actually bothered to -rep anyone for any reason ('cause if I don't like what someone is saying and I got something to tell them, I'll use the 'reply' button; that's what it's there for!). And besides, even if I did, and I hadn't signed my name to it, whatever the comment was supposed to be? How would they know? I think someone on this board is paranoid!
In fact, I see nothing related to reputation when I go to my "User CP" page.
Huzzah for that! People got a problem with me, they ought to have the courage to talk to me face to face. Er, I guess in a private tell where I can clearly see who they are is good enough here, haha!

EDIT: Yup, rep stuff looks like it was yanked, but can still apparently use the rep button. Guess the mods finally got sick of all the PMs from folks complaining about rep comments.
Be well, people of CoH.
The rep system is still very much in play we just tweaked it a bit

so where can we see our comments?
because that's the only entertaining aspect of it.

but... but... however will I know when I've posted something that causes violent emotion in others?!?!

And how will I spread "Pork Approved!" to those that have posted excellent posts?
Oh, I guess I can just post that within the threads, but I hate to derail the threads just to praise the other posters.
*shrug*
I guess that whoever tagged this thread with "tags are a forum game!" was right, and the rules changed. I shall see where this goes, it might get interesting.
That's weird... I can no longer see rep comments in my profile, but I still have rep enabled and have rep points... WAI? |
Well, now that I can't read my own rep comments, then the whole rep system loses meaning. The numerical representation was always meaningless, but at least the "double anonymous" comments were useful before. With the only useful part of the system getting "tweaked..." Eh.
Or, more appropriately, bah humbug.
Samuel_Tow is the only poster that makes me want to punch him in the head more often when I'm agreeing with him than when I'm disagreeing with him.

This creates an odd situation. One can still leave rep, and make rep comments. While the recipient of such action sees the rep outcome, they cannot see the comment. But the mods will still be able to see the comments, presumably. So from what I gather, one could presumably be actioned by a moderator for a rep comment the recipient can't even see

My City Was Gone
But that would imply that the mods are randomly reading said rep comments. Why would they bother? What are the odds that they'll actually happen upon a nasty comment now?
If the posters don't see the comments, the PMs to mods about said comments stop immediately.
But if I leave a rep comment that's a string of cussing that would make a sailor blush, what are the odds that they'll ever see it?
In other words, if we can't see the comments, then the ability to comment should be nuked to save hard drive space.

Currently, you *can* still see your rep comments. The last 3(maybe more) on a post anyway. You just have to look at the actual post itself and click the rep button. Obviously this is difficult for many of you with high post counts. But it's still there if you hunt for it. (Unless they eventually remove that part too)

If I look through all my posts and click on them, I can see (at least some) comments that were left on that particular post.
(difficult to track all my posts down)
I cannot see rep comments that others, or even myself have made on another poster's post.
I cannot see the list in my user CP.
Well, I guess this makes it easier on trolls who were offended when thier hostile, negative posts gathered negativity in return.

If the dot is grey, it means their 'rating' (not the same as their rep) is too low to affect yours. The rep you award is based on a combination of your rep, how long you have been registered on the boards and how many posts you have. If you've been around a bit, but have negative rep, you might award zero, for example.
