veteran rewards are...
Good.
Extra salvage slots sounds pretty good to me, actually.
They can't make the later Vet Rewards too good or people would be complaining that veteran players get an advantage over newer players. Which people do anyway.
Be thankful you even get Veteran Rewards at all. They didn't even exist until Issue 8, 2 and a half years after release.

I have heard other people that I know complain about this issue actually. I personally think that if someone has dedicated 60 months to playing the game then they should get something nice but that something "nice" is all in the eye of the beholder. I don't see anything wrong with the current vet rewards and I am sure if you contacted the PR agents they might be able to give you an official statement as to why the rewards are what they are.

Vet Rewards are a mixed bag. You get four per year and you can't expect every single one to be super awesome. I expect something awesome at least once a year.
I love Reveal. I thought the 5 Merit reward wasn't worth the effort.
I love the Wings and Trenchcoat and Kilt. I thought the Boxer Outfit and the Greek Letters weren't worth the effort.
But hey, free stuff.

Once again, I declare the vet rewards working as intended. Some people complain about them being too much and they should be available to everyone. Some people complain that they're lame and should be bigger. Since we're getting complaining on both ends, the reality's probably in the middle.

My complaint is that there is too much good with the bad, and too much bad with the good. This is just a slap in the face to everyone who has played for 62 months or less.

Would you say this was a... Nazi slap in the face?

By the way, i hope you're not totally serious about the "slap in the face" comment. That seems a little bit of an overreaction to me if you are.
Mostly i think the vet rewards are about right in utility. The ones that can't be acquired through other means are sort of neat without being overpowering, and at least the costume bits unlock relatively early on. (Okay, i find Reveal incredibly useful for solo paper and scanner missions, but i've already said that i think it should be made available to regular players in some fashion.)

lame! why are the veteran rewards so lame? like, who cares about extra salvage slots? someone has been playing and paying for 60 odd months and they get this...

I look forward to the recipe slots especially and the salvage slots to a lesser degree, but I look forward to both. Then again I play 50s most of the time and getting drops is a big part of how I play the game. Apparently, this reward is aimed at players like me. Some previous ones have not been. You win some and you lose some - welcome to being part of community diverse enough that the devs can only satisfy some of its members at a time.
