Best Mechanics arc, my votes:
This was a tough category to choose from. But here it is.

#1 The Next War on Drugs #245042 @arachnodragon
#2 The Beating Heart of Astoria: A Play in Five Acts #170547 @The Cheshire Cat

Two categories to go.

This slew of posts with people getting pleasant surprises in their inboxes makes me smile. I like to think that this is what any rewards event is all about. Thanks again for putting this together, bubba!

Well I just finished playing through all the multi-parters, and here are my votes.

1st place: The Lost Choir #123675, 136959, 141011 @MrSquid. (Because...well...it's mine...and I want to win!)

2nd place: The Consequences of War Part 1 #227331 and Part 2 #241496 @Dalghryn (A lot of people forget that Paragon City just came out of a MASSIVE conflict in the Rikti war. This arc shows just how bad it was, and does a great job of it too.)

Thank you, Mr Squid. According to my play count, you are the first person to play The Audition since before this competition started.

Your PM for Part 1 was very nice, thanks. You PM for Part 2 was quite perplexing, though. Was there a problem?

Surprisingly, I actually played most of these arcs before I even noticed that this contest was here. I always thought The Consequences of War, both parts, was very well done. These two were actually the first MA arcs I played upon my return, (mainly because I always like the Rikti Issue and the RWZ). If I recall, the only thing I said when I rated it in game was that one of the maps bothered me... similar to the small criticism I had regarding the great Astoria in D-Minor arc.

If I recall, isn't there a map in the Rikti arc that's full of smoke the entire way?

At any rate, it was very well done.

I don't feel that a vote of mine would be valid at this point because I have played through all of the arcs, though I will say that from the ones I've seen, all the nominations are well deserved.

No problem, I was just very confused by the whole thing. I kept expecting some big revelation to pop up at the end to connect the whole thing, but instead it came across as a series of unconnected vignettes. In retrospect it wasn't nearly as confusing as I found it right after I played it, and you still did a very good job.

I guess I just needed a night to sleep on it and wrap my head around it.

There's a few really close races going on here, as well as a few strong frontrunners. But still plenty of time to vote.

I was really blown away by the SO Range Honorable Mentions (25-40):

Old Dog, New Trick #81318 @Wrong Bird

Fun arc. Loved the last mission and the custom mobs. The K-9 to K10 rebrand was very funny. Lead out of a hostage on one mission was kind of boring. Could have used an ambush or two or three. Still gave it 5 stars just because it had a lot of heart.

Pro Patria Mori #1173 @WhatRoughBeast

Nice to finally see somebody use the $origin tag for something. Awesome zombie mobs! Great tragic storytelling about the price often paid for being a hero the likes of which this game could use more of. 5 stars

The Horrible Mr. Caractacus #10721 @Lady Sadako

The Seraphim custom group is simply fantastic. Very cool EB in second mission. 3rd mission is absolutely amazing. I love having all of those magical mobs in the perfect map for it. Seriously, why didn't this arc get nominated based on this mission alone? T'was so much fun. Ending was a challenge but not of the impossible head banging into keyboard variety. My only complaint was that it was only 4 missions instead of five but then I am a mission hog. Besides which one more mission and I'd have had to find a way to give this one that ever elusive 6th star!

Ah, cool.

Yes. it is indeed a loosley connected series of vignettes. I intended it to be akin to one of those 'anthology' movies that were vaguely popular in the 60s and 70s. (albeit they were in the horror genre).

Glad you had fun anyway.

Here are my votes for Best Epic Arc - a category that I honestly thought was *very* close; this was an extremely difficult decision and I want it known that the arcs I didn't vote for I still thought were excellent arcs, and were very close to the ones that I did cast my votes for. Very, very well done!

1st Place: One Million Eyes, #71933 @minimalist
2nd Place: A Warrior's Journey: The Flower Knight Task Force, #260284 @PW

It's looking to be an extremely busy week and weekend, so I'm guessing that's going to have to be the last of the votes I'll have time for - I might make a play for getting through 'short arcs' tomorrow (since they're short), but we'll see.

M.A. Arcs
Intended for high level play: The Primus Trilogy (Arc #s 10931, 283821, 283825), "Freakshow U" (Arc #189073), Purification (Arc #352381, Dev's Choice! )
Intended for low level play: "Learning the Ropes" (Arc #100304), "Cracking Skulls" (Arc #115935), "The Lazarus Project" (Arc #124906)

finished enough arcs to vote another category with an informed decision:

Best TO Range Arc (1-15)

1st: Mercytown, the one with the fish #6017 @Tangler

2nd: The Marconeville Horror #178278 @Footloose

Hm. 6 more days to vote, 20 more arcs to play (since the multi-parters are 9 arc between 4 stories). This could be tight. If only I could skip a day of work....

Trying to be a fully-informed "academy member" is hard!
(actually it's fun way to engage the MA and find better stories than normal. Thanks again to Bubbawheat and everyone who helped make this happen)

Arc 5909: "Amazon-Avatars"
Arc 6143: "Escalation" (Nominee: Architect Awards, Nominee: Player Awards, and Dev's Choice!)

6 days? I thought the judging closes at the 4th or am I mistaken?

I was thinking the 4th as well.

but the first page of this thread, where Bubbawheat posted the rules, it says the 9th currently, so that's what I was going by.

I changed it at some point in time to allow for one extra weekend of play.

I think I will extend the deadline for voting *only for the multi-part arcs* for one additional week and possibly 1-2 more of the categories that were posted late. Let me know what you think of this. Of the later categories, Comedy has 11 total votes, Mechanics has 13 total votes, and Serious has 14 total votes. For comparison, DO range arcs have the most votes with 21.

Votes for best comedy. Once again a tough choice that I thought was going to be easy, but I finally played the Vernon Von Grun arc and really enjoyed it. In the end, I picked my choices based on the current results, going with the underdogs rather than the current leader by a fair margin.

1st: Captain Dynamic, the Great, Faces the Great Face
2nd: Vernon Von Grun's Extraordinary Extradimensional Excursions

Bubba - I'm in agreement with extending the deadline for any categories you see fit. More plays for everyone is only a good thing IMO.
