Voting for the best TO arc:

1st: The Marconeville Horror - I had a little bit of trouble with the final boss being possibly difficult for many TO range characters. But I was able to beat him as a duo with no enhancements. And the arc was good enough to put it in the top spot for me.

2nd: Day Job Hell - This one was really fun, even if it could use a little extra copy-editing, though I never hold that against any arc. And it helped that the character I picked to run it "Rubber Poo Monster" was an absolute perfect fit for it.

Best Serious Arc:

1st:
Karmic Exchange #47550 @Braxzana
This story is a great example of tragic figures done right. The characters suffer tragedy without treading into melodrama, they are both strong and weak at the same time, and even a rather minor character to this story resonates with these characteristics. The characters are, very human.

2nd:
The Storyteller: Sabrina's Tale #1237 @Redbone1
An interesting use of MA to tell a story, and a tragedy that hits the right elements such as fighting fate, and the not completely downer ending.

Oh and in the interest of full disclosure, I didn't complete Turg Fiction (making it so far the only arc I haven't completed before voting). An extreme Necro/Dark EB (who would have been an AV according to the description) guarded by a small army of extreme Necro/Dark EBs on the very first mish? The speed of my death was rivalled only by the speed of me clicking the quit button after reviving in the medibay.

Best Comedy Arc:

1st:
Freakshow U #189073 @Lethal Guardian
A great one-shot mission that is filled with detail.

2nd:
Verner von Grun's Extraordinary Extradimensional Excursions #115174 @Igor Blimey
An over the top maniacal characterisation of one of Rogue's most loved mad scientists.

I would also like to add that all the comedy arcs were all well done.

OMG I wish I could have been there to see that!

I do have plans for updating the arc as I only recently published it and have been getting some thoughtful feedback on it (and because apparently some of the grammar/spelling changes I've made didn't save, grrr), but I'm holding off on doing so until this awards thing is done (the real reason may have more to do with procrastination from having too much fun with the Halloween event, but you'll never get me to admit to that).

SO arc votes. Again a very very tough call, though for a slightly different reason. My top two picks are my choices for different reasons, and it's very hard for me to pick one over the other, especially since I can look at the results and see how my vote affects the current results in real time, and it is currently close enough that one vote does affect the results. So here goes:

1st: Teen Phalanx Forever
2nd: Astoria in D Minor

Good luck to both of you, this is one of the closest categories, and still is.

The Invasion of the Bikini-Clad Samurai Vampiresses from Outer Space! #61013 @Aliana Blue

The Consequences of War Part 1 #227331 and Part 2 #241496 @Dalghryn
Great war torn atmosphere.

2nd:
The Audition Part 1 #221240 and Part 2 #221241 @MRCaptainMan
I know I gave this arc a bit of a chewing out in my review thread, but I would still rate this higher that the other two nominees.

And full disclosure time again: I never completed Monster Hop for the Short Arc category, because I was unable to locate two of the objectives. I ran back and forth across the map several times before deciding to call it quits (not that this is really the author's fault mind). It was only a single mission arc, so I felt what content I did see was enough for me to make a judgment.

I didn't complete Turg Fiction for the Multi-Part Arc for reasons stated previously, but I also did not complete The Lost Choir either. I saw the biblical motifs, felt the 'EPIC' vibe, and thought "this isn't really going to be my cup of tea". After finding out the first mission has me hunting objectives on the ruined Atlas map, and getting promptly curb stomped by an Extreme EB (originally an AV iirc), I thought to myself "yep, this definitely isn't my cup of tea" and called it quits.

Anyway, that's me done voting for all the categories. A big thanks to Bubba and the judges for organising this comp, it's been a blast going through so many awesome arcs I have never played, and good luck to all the nominees.

Just wanted to comment on this: If you read my arc descriptions in the Architect search engine, I build my arcs to be played on "Heroic/Solo" for an effective challenge. Gin'zago, for mission 1, should have spawned as a "Boss" for you if so. I noticed you've submitted your vote, so I'm not challenging that, but if you'd care to give my arc set another go, read the notes I put in the arc description for recommended play level settings. Thanks. I don't know what sort of toon you brought to this, but I playtested this with a blaster, controller, scrapper and mastermind, and had a good fight but no stress in the fight. (Later on was a bit more challenging though, so be warned.)

Bubba: Thanks for the heads up. Best of luck to all the competitors! I haven't seen most of these arcs, so I'll abstain on voting (for myself even, cuz that's not fair if I don't know the other stories), but I'll be watching for the upcoming verdict.

Above all, tell good stories, people. I look forward to seeing the winner's circle.

An arc should suit a variety of playstyles; players shouldn't have to modify their playstyle to suit the arc. Most are unwilling to do so, and will rate an arc down if it is impossible to complete on a difficulty setting they are comfortable with.

I'm not sure what you're referring to. The only thing noting difficulty in the arc description is that it is 'designed for play by heroes of Security Level 50', and nothing specific about difficulty adjustments.

I played this arc on even level, single hero, with bosses, and just had a look again this time as -1 level, single hero, no bosses. Gin'zago is still spawning as an EB, and he's accompanied by a group of bosses now. It's better, but as an introductory mission I'm finding this very discouraging for what else the arc is going to throw at me.

Tangler: *BLINK* He should be spawning as a boss, NOT an EB, on heroic/solo. I haven't changed this arc since beta (much to my chagrin; I need to ask Aeon to toggle the DC flags so I can fix a few straggler issues), but that's how it's always spawned. Maybe the new difficulty settings are screwing spawns up? I'll test it later.

As far as the warning.. Wow. My bad on that, it doesn't include it on this version. I'm a moron; I keep looking at my updated Act 1 that I have in queue where all the tweaked disclaimers are. Okay, mea culpa on that. Six months, it's been like this... I gotta PM Aeon today...

My votes for Best Serius Arc:

1) Blight #140423 @Witch Engine
2) Tales of Croatoa: A Rose By Any Other Name #178774 @Silvers1

This was an interesting category for me because I have always said that dev's choice should never be viewed as any sort comment on arc's overall quality. With the recent addition of the winners of the Architect Awards, the quality of the dev's choice selection of arcs has improved a bit (Sabrina's Tale was my third choice). However, you then have the unplayable Ghost in the Machine arc to counterbalance these (unless the arc was not built to spawn 2 EB masterminds out the gate).

I wouldn't change my difficulty settings to play my mother's arc.

My hellion arc got honorable mention?? O.o I'm totally flattered and feel bad that I wasn't around when this started. I would vote but I haven't played enough of the arcs to form an honest opinion. Plus voting between Geek's arc and Anachro's arc is going to be... tricky.

This is pretty cool of you guys to set this up and good luck to all those in the runner ups.

First, I want to say that I really appreciate you guys who have played The Next War on Drugs recently. This is where I have to admit with embarrassment that I haven't played CoX in over a month, and I wasn't even aware of Bubbawheat's contest. Then I logged in this evening and had a bunch of really nice comments on The Next War on Drugs, and had to find out what was going on.

So thank you again for the nomination, and to everyone who's played it, regardless of how you vote!

However, for my own personal vote, I think I'm going to vote for "Speeding Through Time" for Best Mechanical Arc. Geek Boy's arc was the first thing in the MA that made me go "wow this is crazy cool fun."

Edit: So for Best Use of Mechanics:

1) Speeding Through Time
2) The Next War on Drugs (might as well throw my own in there after Geek's)

Great idea for hosting these awards. Nice work everyone on some very excellent arcs. (Now I'm going to have to figure out my votes for the other categories)

Best Epic level arc. Finally got around to playing Most Important Thing with my Time Shifter character (his playthrough post will come after the results are in). All the arcs are really great. My choice was made mostly due to minor nits I had with each of the other three arcs. The two I'm voting for I loved from beginning to end, the story, the gameplay, the character's voices, and the concepts. The ones I didn't, I still loved for most of those reasons.

1st: One Million Eyes: Great concept for the contact, it's very unique, well done, and kept me interested throughout. Even has great busy text.

2nd: A Warrior's Journey: I'm a big fan of L5R, and it was great to see that style of story translated to City of Heroes. I also enjoyed Flower Knight's voice, and growth through the arc.

All that's left is comedy and multi-arcs for me now, though I may abstain from the multi-arcs myself as I don't tend to have the patience for it (still haven't played through CoW 1 even though I loved CoW 2)
