Man, I knew super group base-bump day was going to come back and kick me in the rear.

Anyone else getting chain spammed by the same NCSoft newsletter? I mean it's happened to me before but it's getting ridiculous. Getting like one every hour for the past 3 hours. Anachro is up to 7 of the same emails. I think they are just mad I haven't logged in for like months and being passive aggressive about it.
Anyone else?

So I've been away from the game for a while and came back for GR. I flipped my PB to gray, and jumped into St. Martial. Found a black market and noticed I had a recipe that sells for a good amount now: Kinetic Combat Damage/End/Reach level 35, sells for over 100 million. So my teammate gives me 6 million to list (listing fee is 5 million and change), I list, click through the "this is expensive" window and watch my 5 million deposit disappear.
But wait, my item is still in storage. Nothing under selling, nothing under sold. The deposit is definitely gone.
Is there a delay or did I just lose that deposit? -

I might be missing something but I thought the transfers would be unlimited. It said I had 6 shard transfer tokens (I believe I had a while ago and was saving) and when I transfered one, it counted down to 5.
Did I miss the memo? -
I see your Wizard of SLJ and raise it to Star Wars rock n' roll poster.

Hi guys.
Go Saints!
Neener neener neener.
Ok back to WoW. -
For some reason I thought this thread was a players choice awards FOR not AGAINST. -_-

My hellion arc got honorable mention?? O.o I'm totally flattered and feel bad that I wasn't around when this started. I would vote but I haven't played enough of the arcs to form an honest opinion. Plus voting between Geek's arc and Anachro's arc is going to be... tricky.
This is pretty cool of you guys to set this up and good luck to all those in the runner ups. -
Congratz people! (Yay Blight!)

Quote:I have to admit, I've played this on no less than 3 teams and I've even solo'd this on invincible up to the AV at the end (back before the author whimped out and made him an EB). This is a very, very fun arc.Rick Hall R[EVOL]UTION (Wake up, America!) - Arc 166081 - by Princess Bubblegum
I kind of regret putting this on this list. It's a seriously guilty pleasure, and blatant political satire. That said, I've played it several times and would gladly play it again (as would any freedom loving American). WE'LL DO IT LIVE! -
Blight - arc# 140423
by Witch_Engine
Hands down my favorite. We've taken teams through it a couple of times just for fun. -
Replay of updated arc:
BE Prologue: Gangs United
(Arc#250480)
Rated: 5 stars, Great fixes, Highly recommended!
Played on level 27 plant/storm controller and level 27 shield/fire tank on lowest diff. Playability is cake (granted we had mass support) which is good because this could be adjusted up with difficulty settings.
The changes made on this arc were very well done and it does a lot to tighten up the story. This arc has a light humor throughout but it's not overdone (thanks for taking out the mario joke). I think the story explains the gangs better and clues help to answer questions (who the hell is this guy? *CLUE* oh I see now.).
Maps are much smaller (thank you for taking out the spider cave) and this helps make the story feel more streamlined. I don't feel like I'm being bogged down by looking around for mobs and we were able to complete objectives in a linear fashion.
I think I saw a couple typos but nothing serious ('loss' instead of 'lost') and there were only two minor things I noticed. One might be a glitch, which was level 14 mob in the first mission when the level was set to 20. The other is the clockwork showing up in the third mission, which is never explained. How do the clockwork factor into the gangs united? Maybe I missed it in the dialog.
This story is WAY improved and I found no reason to rate it lower than I did. It is fully enjoyable and the souvenir actually makes me want to play your next arc. Maybe, once it's published, I'll play it without a review just don't tell anyone who's waiting on our list. :3 -
Quote:^^^In answer to the first thing: There are often reasons for an author to create an enemy group, usually for limited use, that is missing a rank due to file size constraints.
This.
Anyone who puts together a 5 mission arc with custom mobs is going to run into this problem... Should I cut missions or cut ranks? The best answer is to cut ranks. I have a 5 mission arc that I was working on that has 2 custom groups. For a while I only had minions before I found another work around for some of size limits. I still don't have bosses in either custom group. At this point I think I'm going to give up on it. -
Quote:That's different from what you originally said. Don't start back peddling.Unfortunately the answer is probably: infinite.
That's because it's false.
If the system can be used for reward then it can be abused for reward. This is exactly what happened, and exactly what lots of people on these forums saw coming right from the announcement. It is extremely unlikely that the devs are going to magically find a way to have AE give standard levels of rewards while simultaneously preventing it from being abused. The only way to stem the tide of abuse is to lower the reward level below the norm, possibly greatly so. And if that's what it takes then I'm OK with it.
Now, I am stating the obvious when I say that any system can be abused in the game. For example, inf sellers didn't show up until the auction house and IOs. There are people who are abusing it to a make quick money to sell to players. IMO this is by far a greater crime than if the entire AE were farms/PL arcs.
Fortunately some of the farm/pl problems have been addressed and there has already been result. Super SK was the best thing they could think of, PLers even agree that it has greatly decreased their xp rewards. And it has the great side effect of encouraging people to team up more. -
Honestly, I play for content but I also play for advancing my character. If there were no rewards for AE, I would not play it. My time is too valuable to play something, no matter the content, without some kind of advance for my character.
On the other hand, I really don't see how in any form of reality, AE and PVP can be compared as the same. It's like comparing apples and guitars.
But really this is all moot, the devs have already stated they want to have rewards for AE. Period. No amount of "pvp and AE are the same" will change that. -
I clicked on this thread because I thought Viv had a graphics error and needed help. I don't know what you guys are talking about.

Trollbane (arc# 12669) by TeChameleon
Rated 4 stars.
Played with level 5 WP/SS Tank and level 5 Earth/FF controller on easiest diff. The playability was... rough. Lots of bosses after the first mission, one in almost every group encountered, an EB in each mission except for the last one which had 3 EBs. Mobs were +1 a majority of the time. This along with the ambiguous navigation directions, led to a lengthy play time. I would estimate that this arc, at low level, could be well over an hour. Although the story is good, see below, I would not rate this arc as quick nor lowbie friendly.
That being said, the plot of this story is solid, details are good, clues answer questions, and the writing is decent. The flow is consistent and even with the length of play time, the flow does not feel slow.
There were some issues that I would point out, namely, the assumption that the player has some kind of special ability to sense magic. "A feeling of mystic energy pulls you..." is a common objective that comes up in most of the missions. Although I see the attempt, I think this assumes too much about the player and doesn't give enough direction. Objectives, imo, should give the player a sense of progress. This seems to do the opposite, giving me the feeling of searching around in the dark, unsure of what I will find. It is interesting but I do not think it works more than the first time.
My character also seems to know a lot about bones, namely that my character can look at a pile of bones and know that there is magical energies that indicate a successful necromantic spell. I think this assumes to much and gives too much to the player. This should either be found out by the contact or pieced together by the player with more clues.
That leads me to my next minor issue which is the superballs; why would I need this help if I can sense magic myself? Now if you had introduced the superballs from the start, that would have been better than assuming my character is good with magic. It also is a little redundant to have both the "follow the superball" and "follow this feeling" which are both ambiguous. I would expand on the superballs or take them out so it doesn't seem so random.
Glowies don't have interact text, only the chat text. It's minor but I consider this "polish."
Also, map 2 contact dialog has "list of adresses." Should be 'addresses.'
Map 4 is a huge out door mission which would have made this arc even longer but objective has clear color animation and just happened to be right in front of us.
On the last mission, after defeating the bone guy, Crimson, and Illustrated, nav just says "Illustrated Woman." First of all it should say, "Defeat Illustrated Woman" to fit with the original format of "3 bosses to defeat." Second, Tombstone is the next objective, not Illustrated, which conflicts with the nav objective.
Main EB spawns in last mission right at the front door with BABs. Not sure if that was intended.
The last thing I want to mention, which I do with a bit of trepidation, is the writing itself. It's a little rough seeing such a good story having some issues with the actual writing. Now, obviously, I'm not the best person to go to about English, grammar, and all that but I do know when something looks awkward.
Here is an example:
Quote:Now I don't want to nit pick and I know some people take offense to it so I'll just tell you this: Go over your work and see where you can improve the structure of your sentences to flow better. I would take out most, if not all of the hyphens and "..." especially in the nav text. It looks very odd seeing ellipsis with a comma in the nav. This arc averaged about one of each, ellipsis and hyphen, in every paragraph. And at least the Skulls and Trolls are likely to be quiet for a while, licking their wounds, and the flow of 'dyne on the streets will slow, for now, anyhow.
Quote:We didn't move fast enough; the Skulls are in the Troll caves- they tunneled in through one of the wrecked offices in Eastgate.
Also, I would strongly suggest moving away from BABs calling you a "newbie" every time he addresses the player. I don't think it comes off as enduring as you might have hoped and makes BABs sound like he's condescending.
I think with a little bit of play balancing and fixing up the writing and errors, this could easily be a 5 star arc.
TL : DR- Arc is a little rough for lowbies and a little too long for "quick."
- Plot is solid, story is entertaining, detail is good, dialog is enjoyable.
- Assuming too much about player's character, giving extra power; ie sense magic.
- Superballs come flying out of nowhere then disappear. Develop more or take out.
- Fix major error with objective directions in the last mission, states wrong objective.
- Work on writing to make it flow. Polish it up. Fix typos. Take out hyphens, ellipsis, and "newbie" or use sparingly.
Good job, I thoroughly enjoyed your story! -
I think MA can be saved but it just takes time.
Part of the problem is that the devs did not anticipate the number of people putting arcs up. This broke several things; search ability, rating, and peoples patience. I think these nerfs are pretty rough but if people really want to play/make storys they'll keep putting them out. Hopefully we'll get a nice shiny new search/browse feature for MA. I think that would make things so much better.
Do I believe that reviewers have the power to destroy MA by driving people away from writing stories? No. But, IMO I think everyone, including myself, could be a little nicer to people who are putting their work up for scrutiny. Even if someone's work is not that great, you have to figure that that person sat down and spent many minutes/hours/days putting it together and may be emotionally invested. Obviously if they put it up for review, they're looking for some form of feedback. However, I personally believe that eviscerating their arcs is not very effective in helping people improve, but hey that's just my personal belief.
