THIS! It seems that only one arc is being picked a month and that they are each from the group played that month. This makes little sense when you consider the large amount of time before this started with no DCs being awarded plus the fact that all the 2010 Player's Choice winners were played in a two month period. Frankly, they all deserve DC in my opinion (and in many others....they were the winners after all), so what's the hold up? Most of those arcs should have DC's long before now and as it stands they sit in a sort of limbo. I don't understand the apprehension in giving out DCs to deserving arcs.
  3. Though this thread started as a doom for farmers thread it should be clear to everyone now that it’s really the end for story arcs with the exception of a very few diehards and that’s clearly fine with the development team. As things currently stand:

    - An arc that can get you from 1-50 in two hours was unbanned Per Crysys “TopDoc (creator of the infamous CEBR) had his Claw/Elec 1-50 in 2 hours AE Farm arc unbanned today”

    - Xanatos is spot on: “There is low demand for your stories.” Just take a look at the first few pages of player rated arcs if you don’t think he is right

    - Hall of Fame is almost 50% farms and the only story arcs in it are from month one of AE (April 09). They should change it to Hall of Farms

    - Ratings griefing is apparently totally acceptable to the development team. I personally had my arc get hit (though I really don’t know what I did to piss the farmers off) as did several other story authors. In all the cases I know of the response was “We can’t tell you if we did anything to the person(s) doing it and in any case, we won’t remove them”

    - Marty, like all other attempts to reduce AE farming has like to no impact on it and will just generate a new wave of farms.

That is how things stand and I don’t see any of it changing anytime soon given the dev track record of addressing AE issues/problems/etc. in the past. All that considered, I wrote a farmable story arc (#517040) that is doing great. That’s what the people want, that’s what the devs are happy with, so who am I to argue?
  4. Here we go again. We have presented many good solutions in the past that are being repeated again here. None of them matter at all if the devs do not speak up and let us know if this is considered an issue or not.
  5. In any given months group of arcs that were played does only one get Dc'd? Does it mean that the other arcs played that month aren't going to be DC'd ever? I know there has been speculation, but I'd really like for a Dev to answer this especially considering the current limit on arc slots.

    Can I cry now?

My arc also got 4 1 star plays last night. It seems people who post on the forums were targeted.

Highly amusing that there is a large contingent of people out there who think of the AE as a farm tool and only a farm tool. Never even crosses their minds that a story could perhaps be told or a challenge perhaps given with it.

BTW, if you don't like low ratings, don't make challenge arcs. Challenge arcs make just about everyone who plays AE angry or annoyed. Challenge arcs sit in the sweet spot for hate.

We're talking about inherently dense farm-tunnel-visioned people here. A response could only lead to worse things. Best to forget it and move on.

My arc is not even a challenge arc and I got the same feedback (same person?). Mine is clearly labeled as "Origin Story, Solo Friendly and Drama".

    Can I cry now?

Mind if I join you, because I got a 1 star rating and this feedback this morning:

"Message From @******* : Feedback on Architect Mission The New Paragon Society Reborn: Really Bad XP compared to other farms"

What a wonderful investment of time it was fixing and updating my arc.
  9. Today I got my "reward" for the hours of work I put in fixing this arc. A 1 star rating and the following feedback:

"Message From @Jakarta : Feedback on Architect Mission The New Paragon Society Reborn: Really Bad XP compared to other farms"

It's clear my arc was hit because I foolishly attempted to promote it here. So much for my attempt at getting back into MA.
  10. Anytime I select the "My Creations" tab in MA without the game will freeze and after a minute or two I will get dc'd with a "lost connection to server". If I log right back in I can usually edit the arc, but not always. Sometimes it will dc'd till I give up and go play something else. This never used to happen and it's getting old real fast.
  11. I've finally gotten around to combining my two arcs "The New Paragon Society Reborn" and "The New Paragon Society Reborn - Conclusion" into one arc as they were always intended to be. I made the arc(s) in the days prior to the doubling of allowable arc space and never got around to it. Considering how difficult and time consuming the task was due to there being no easy way to combine two arcs, it's no wonder it took so long. Anyways, it's done. So to "celebrate" I'm starting my first arc thread.

Name: The New Paragon Society Reborn
    Arc ID: 355351
    Creator Global Name: @Jail.bird
Synopsis – Most of the New Paragon Society was wiped out in the 2004 Rikti invasion. One of the two surviving members has decided to rebuild the group and, he needs your help. [Note: The story is built with solo play in mind. It will work for teams but, may be weird.] [SFMA]
    Difficulty Level: Medium
    Number of EB/AVS – 1 EB
    Level Range – 31-54
Story Type – Drama, Origin Story, Solo Friendly
Villain Groups – Council, Arachnos and Custom
    Mission Count: - 4
Estimated Time to Play – About 30-45 minutes
Note – The story was built with solo play in mind. It will work for teams, but may play weird with groups of more than two to three players.
  12. I agree with many of the previous nominations and would like to add these two:

    Suppression 374481 @Gypsy Rose
    A Very Special Episode 457506 @Wrong Number

I have a couple more, but need to dig up the info on them.

Since, my comment went over your head let me rephrase: I was basically saying the timing was pretty crappy and I felt bad for that even though it was not anyone's fault. Got it now?

Second, where oh where was it mentioned that anything had an impact on if an arc was DC'd? We were wondering about why some arcs were suddenly skipped over in the order, not about which arcs should or shouldn't be dc'd. Geez...

Write for your audience. If the audience is all farmers, and you want free tickets, write a farm. Farms only getting the hof's? and you want your extra arc slot, write a farm. make it a good one. make it the best.

So, waste a slot writing a "good" farm so it makes Hall of Fame and that will give you an "extra" slot. Brilliant!

    Nothing.

So I opened up the AE system to see where I stood on ratings.

One of my arcs, formerly at page 3 middle, is now page 4 middle, so I wondered why.

There are two, potentially three, farms in the Hall of Fame on page 2 of a default search alone, just going from their descriptions. The majority of arcs on page 3 seem to be obvious farms based on their descriptions. Barring unique offerings like Crafter's Cafe (an excellent concept well executed, I might add!), players have to get to page 4 of a default search if they want to see what arcs are available that aren't Dev's Choice, Hall of Fame, the biggest and hottest farms, or a very few exceptional standouts.

This isn't me trying to gripe about Dev's Choice, Hall of Fame, or arcs in front of mine on the list. . . but it is frustrating to see farms, which supposedly aren't what the AE is for, getting the attention of players looking to use the AE for quick levels while simultaneously dropping the reputation of AE creators, players, and missions among non-AE players. I, too, have experienced what Zamuel mentioned about having to specify that not all of AE is about farming and that my arcs that I'm dying to get people to try out aren't farms.

It's a sad, sad state of affairs.
It's what the devs are happy with, so that's that. AE had awesome potential, but was severally mismanaged from the start. Is anyone really surprised at the state it's in now considering past dev action/inaction?

They provided prizes for the PC Awards and awarded forum titles. I think they are aware.

I can understand them mixing up the order; they need to be sensitive to the perspective of the general community player (which is who they are trying to attract with this event). And to them, it looks like they've only picked suggestions from 2 people so far.

Not to mention, there are already roughly 60 arcs suggested, so people who didn't post in the first week or still want to recommend arcs probably feel like it's a futile endeavor to have their suggestion played at this point.
This is amusing fanboi rhetoric considering the history of ignoring years of DC suggestions and the crazy number of times certain arcs (like the one skipped) have been recommended before.

    Quote:
It sucks that her arc was skipped this week, but WN shouldn't take it personally. Are PW and Igor Blimey taking issue with being skipped, too? Doubtful. It's only seen that way with WN because she already thinks they're avoiding her work.
You mean a person that already has a DC and the other arc that is already in HoF? Also, you fail to mention that she was the only person to win two PC awards this past years and BOTH were skipped over. Not to say the others should have been skipped, but i doubt it's as big a deal to them. Also, to be honest, considering the personal stuff she is going though with her son atm, it seemed particularly heartless even though I'm certain that was not the intent.

    Quote:
Relax, her work is top notch and we all know it's deserving of DC. It's just going to take more time.
Well, there is one thing we can agree on.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the PC Awards were picked by the MA community of players and not one person. Clearly they should have all been played first. I feel very bad for her as she deserves much better treatment from the devs and the community.

  22. I would recommend the arc:

The Golden Age Secret of the Paragon Society ARC#344596 by @Wrong Number.

I feel it is an excellent arc with a new well developed contact that's lots of fun to play.
  23. The only whining I see here is from the people failing to address the legitimate complaints brought up by long time MA users. I agree with Lazarus first post 10,000%. If the devs really want to help out MA, any of the things that Peregrin Falcon listed in their post would be far more effective than running this contest. At the very least, they could offer people the opportunity to buy more MA slots so that those players who haven’t had the luck of getting a DC will be able to participate without having to kill off an existing well-established arc.
  24. This is an idea that is long over-due and would do more than anything else I can thing of to help revive interest in MA.

It's been suggested before and it would be great if they made some of better arcs into player content, but please no more contests like the previous ones. One thing to consider is that many of the better authors have run out of slots to make new arcs. Why not start by checking out the top rated arcs? Most have there for many, many months at least

The "Annual" Official Dev contest run one was poorly implemented and promoted. The runners up were totally ignored despite being selected by the Devs as some of the best content in MA at that time.

The Dr. Aeon contests did bring us some good arcs, but the biggest problem with them was that one person picked the winners and the runners up. Any contest with one judge will reflect that person's personal tastes. This became very clear in the last contest where a runner up arc was selected that had several technical flaws when there were many others that were more original, better written and far technically superior.

Since both the "Make Recommendations for DC" threads were removed with no arcs being DC'd that were recommended there, I think it's pretty clear that the Devs have given up on MA.
