Ok, I got nothing... Except for the fine woman sitting next to me that has gotten addicted to this game the same way I have.
MY FAREWELL GIFT
It is never truly gone, as long as there is someone left to remember.
See, I went the other way. I met my fiancée through CoH, through the forums, in fact. There were rough patches at the beginning, but it's been almost three years that we've been together now, and when she came by at the beginning of the month, I proposed.
No, we're not having an in-game wedding. :P Still, I agree that there's nothing better than to have a significant other to share the game with. (Almost said CoX, there. That probably would have ruined the message) It just enriches the whole experience, as far as I'm concerned. |
My only advice is be open to the idea. You will likely have lots of in game friends who cant really come to the RL ceremony, so an in game one makes them feel 'part' of that special day

Wait, wrong time for that.

That's terrible. That's worse than stealing 40 cakes.

She also has a better scrapper than me...which is just galling because I pride myself on my scrappers.
Currently her computer is down with a burned out hard drive, so only one of us can play at a time, usually me because she doesn't like the laptop's keyboard and I'm used to it.

Soooo, I was reading the boards this morning before the mystical powers of my coffee took effect and I had to do a double take at the thread title. At first I thought it said CoX and not CoH. That would have turned this thread into something differently entirely!

Oh, and a little advice to male gamers wanting their women to play. In my experience, most women don't start out as "powergamers". Emphasize the fun, social, and story aspects instead of the min-maxing killfest, and her interest will likely grow. Emasculating you with her purpled out Warshade will come in due time.
Remember what I said here...

My wife's like this too. No nagging, but she has never shown a bit of interest in the game either.

Similar to my experience, though I got mine to try it a few times, she even made a character based upon one of my nicknames for her; Payamma Gurl. Unfortunately it wasn't enough to interest her. I blame it on her hobby of car racing. Just not enough excitement in a video game for her.
The upside, is that the account I set up for her is now populated with my characters.
Well, the reaction should be the same:

I stole my husband's account. And I growl at him if he comes near it.
All I got to say is: mine is beautiful, sexy and loves me dearly.
She can understand and hold a conversation about football, every aspect (She is up by 5 games in our household season poll currently) and loves to watch it.
She's also a gamer, but due to her being in the heathcare industry, hardly has time to play.
I HAVE to be the luckiest man alive.
Nice!
I don't want my girlfriend to play CoX, that's my time. Besides if she plays who is going to cook!
Who do I have to *&^% around here to get more Targeted AoE recipes added?

Count me among the lucky.
A few weeks after I got the Good vs Evil edition, both my sons got interested in the game, and thus each got their own account. At this time, the wife was happy playing "Myst" on her computer, and the thought of her playing any MMO was 'out of the question' according to her.
After having dinner table discussions on builds, missions, canon, character stories and so forth between my boys and me, the wife finally broke down 5 months after I got the game and thought she'd give it a go, of course, emphasizing that she'd proabably only enjoy making characters in the character creator. At this point, all was looking good for getting the wife to play CoH with the rest of us.
Withing weeks, she was addicted. With over 3 dozen heroes and villains, she commenced a scorched earth campaign of playing that left my sons and me in her dust! By the time I got my first 50, she already had 3. I'd say it would've been embarassing, but I actually was happy to be spending time teaming with her and enjoying the game on the family level. If I'd travelled less for work, I probably would've kept up better.
As it was stated earlier by others, the house doesn't get cleaned up as often as it did, we do more "you're on your own" meals than before, but as such, we've all chipped in on the house work and meals now equally.
She's enjoyed the game for years now, and although she's currently taking a break to learn the wonders of WoW, she has already stated that once some of the bugs are worked out in Issue 16, she'll be back before the Halloween event starts.
I even made an action figure of her favorite/main hero she created, callled Popoki, and she still has it on her desk next to her computer in a plastic case.
Once again, I 'm a lucky man.
Now I need to get back online...I still have a lot of 50s to catch up to her with (she's up to 7 now...)...
No, what you do is make a female character, make it look very similar to her except go too far in whatever area about her body she is sensitive about.
Then say "Look honey. . . I made YOU in the game." Once she gets done hitting you a few times she will kick you out of your chair and fix it. . .. . . and then four years later you'll be asking her to lead another Posi because you need the merits. Of course, I wouldn't know from personal experience or anything. I have absolutely no body image issues about my thighs. |
Triumph Lurker: mintmiki 50 emp/archer
basically, if you see a miki on Triumph, it's probably cute and it's probably me.
Huge thanks to cuppamanga and all the folks in the mac help forum for prolonging my borrowed time on this game.
Badging in a PvP zone?
If you are treasure hunting on a battlefield wearing an enemy uniform, there is a high probability that you will be attacked.

Grin. My better half got City Of Heroes around Christmas. I would watch over his shoulder, and enjoy watching, but when he asked me if I wanted to play, I would shudder and tell him it was way to violent....and I had never played a video game, and I was too clutzy...
I tried to make up for it by fetching him beer and snacks, and during double XP weekend I ensured he had all he needed to keep on killing. Anyways, he felt I would really like it and the more questions I asked about what I was seeing over his shoulder, the more confident that I would indeed enjoy the game. Sooo....He bought me a copy of the Good Vs Evil edition, paid for a year's subscription fee, installed the game on my computer, and even bought me a new video card and power supply when it was found my computer was lacking in that respect...all the while I was yowling like a scalded cat that I did not want to play. I finally caved in because he had spent all that money...for the video card, he went to Best Buy and asked the salesman which video card he would install in his mother's computer if she were to take up City of Heroes....it was not cheap. And, I decided this was something we could do together. That was almost 33 months ago, actually, 33 months at the end of this month! Those who want your wives and giirl friends to play.....beware.....she is going to want to kick off her shoes, and play the game upon coming home from work...your house or apartment will never be sparkling clean again, you will start to eat more take out, you might have to take up doing laundry, and she will wake you up in the early hours of the morning with a simply wonderful idea for a toon |
btw, that last paragraph is extremely accurate. I mean, like verbatim. I'm going to hide now before she reads this post.
Happy Birthday Honey!!
(Everyone should send her a Happy Birthday message in game! @moopharm1)
I'm on the opposite end of the spectrum. I have no girlfriend or wife, and I'm in the age bracket where being a computer gamer could be seen (incorrectly) as evidence that I'd be a bad boyfriend/husband. I'm 42. Of course, I have a small social circle, despite my recent hobby of Ballroom Dancing, so I'm having a hard time meeting women. Most of the women in my age range are still in relationships or else are still in the process of the breakup. Anyway, bottom line is, if I ever meet someone, I'll probably have to be careful to mention Ballroom Dance as my main hobby and not mention COH. At least, not at first. Around here, computer gaming is seen as a boy's hobby. The facts become irrelevant, usually, as soon as that is mentioned.
Maybe I'll meet someone who is an exception.

My wife has interest, we even made her a toon in the character creator, but while not as bad as a fps, the camera angles give her motion sickness and make her nauseous - you can imagine the effect Cloverfield had on her...
My wife has been playing with me for over 3 years. She even tried WoW with me for a little bit. I even got her involved in PvP, back when PvP was worth being involved in.

Got started playing CoX 3+ years ago About 3 months later convinced the GF to try it. Now she's as bad, if not worse, of a Altaholic as I am.
But heck, we have fun playing together, so I can't complain...
Thank you for the time...
