Stone Armor - Granite Armor
Never liked the current armor and the fact that all stone tankers over lvl 32 looked the same. I vote get rid of it in favor of something new, particularly if the end result is we don't all look the same
I would love a granite armor that didn't turn you into an anonymous rockheap.
Shortspark: 50 Fire/Fire tanker
Jessie Inferno: 50 Fire/SD scrapper
a wizard: 50 Rad/Sonic defender
The Nemesis Plothole: 50 StJ/Reg scrapper
If this is a roadblock, it needs to be changed. We're past the point of just accepting limitations because it helps maintain the status quo. Whatever brings the most versatility now and in the future -- that's what I'm on board with.
I like the huge transformation of the current set, but I would vote for the change if it would clear up all the issues with it.
I feel that the overlay should still cover at least 90% of the body, since it's pretty much the ultimate form of defense/res and if it only showed granite underwear that wouldn't thematically make sense. However, for a long time I've wanted it to scale to the body size and show auras. If you made it so it looked similar to how it is now and was beefy enough to just cover up the fatter of costume options, I think it'd be perfect.

My 50s:
Hero: Armor Assassin (scrapper), Cross Dresser (scrapper), Surly Seaman (blaster), Defensive End (Tank), Rad Rhino (Cont)
Villain: Beast Infection (Corr), Sweet Zombie Jesus (MM), Milk Weasel (Stalker), Orgullo (MM), Agent Eris (Crab)
I love the look of Granite Armor so I'm not sure I would enjoy the idea of a change, especially since by now, I'm so used to it. However, I'm not against change but I would like to see the concept art before I make a decision like someone said above. Making a decision without knowing what both look like it rather difficult.
"Be a beacon?"
Blue Mourning: lvl. 50 Katana/DA
Bree the Barricade: lvl 50 Stone/Axe
Last Chance for Eden: lvl 50 Fire/Kin
Myra the Grey: lvl 50 Bots/Traps
1 Minute to Midnight lvl 50 Spines/DA
I would have to vote no until I had a look at some sort of concept, I like the current granite
armor.
Unit 609-1231 mk VII lvl 50 Stalker claws/EA
BlazingWing lvl 50 Blaster Fire/Fire/Fire
For me this would be great. I just don't like powers that force me to look a certain way. It part of the reason that my stone tank has been sitting at level 41 for almost a year. The look of granite just takes the fun out of him. So i'm all for a change to the look of granite.

Stone is about the only Brute secondary that I have not run in the over three years I have been playing. Part of the reason is the work needed to get past the lumbering slow-moe travel (I hate TP for travel...and I mean HATE it) and the fact that when you get to be all big and bad you sorta cease to be "you" and become the same thing as everybody else.
So, given what I have seen this dev team come up with recently as far as customization. I would love to roll the dice on BABS and the rest of the kids working Granite over.
I vote change. (Hint..an animation that pulled chunks of rock up out of the ground to cover your character might be kinda cool too)
The Revenants and Vengeance Imperium-Triumph, Champion & now flavoring Justice!
Tanker Tuesdays & Brutal Thursdays. If you like fun, look'em up!
Shhh! Rangle is plotting.
There could be a compromise to the size thing.
You could have the activation of Granite inflate your height to that of the original model, yet have the costume overlays. The maximum height you're willing to be could be an auxiliary slider. I don't know if your animation system allows tweening heights like that, but that would be a cool replacement.
For those of you with Stone Armor characters, how attached are you to the current appearance of "Granite Armor"? There are a number of issues with Granite Armor that could be elegantly solved by changing the VFX of the power into something more akin to the other armor toggles in the set. IE, your player model and costume wouldn't go away, there would just be a new set of 'Granite' armor pieces overlaid.
I haven't made any decision to do this, it's just one of the options for dealing with the multiple issues we have with Granite Armor and I wanted to get a sense of how many of you guys wouldn't be able to adapt to a change like this. Before anyone asks, no...we couldn't have it both ways. |
I don't even have a granite tank and I can safely said that I would love to have the current granite look abandoned to the abyss and beg you to please revamp it... I might make one then!
A SOLUTION!!!
I have a solution, and I'm half surprised no one has suggested it before me. A see a lot of replies saying that they are FOR change, but will miss the GIGANTIC feel. Well... why not just do this:
/macro GRNT "powexec_name Granite Armor$$CC 01"
This would toggle on granite armor and you could SET the costume you wanted to be when you turned the armor on. You could just USE the new options in the science pack to make a HUGE style of your character, OR make him stone, WHICH IS A PART OF OUR COSTUME system. This cause is not lost, a simple macro and or BIND fix would still enable you to be a giant human ROCK, bigger then most, just MAX height, MAX legs, and even use the HUGE body type if you want! Of course the CC 01 would need to be changed based on the costume slot said Granite type outfit would be in.
And as a side note, I'm all for granite armor being changed. I got my macro skills at the ready!
Hmmm...I can see a few not liking the change.
I know I personally was hoping for a Lava skin for Granite.
That said, any change you did make, I likely wouldn't mind, and if I did, I know I'd get over it.

Im not fixed on granite in its current form, and would much prefer something more akin to the other armours.

I've never played a stone armor past level 10ish, but if granite looked different, I would be more inclined to play it.
I would also approve of revamping the stone armor set altogether, but that's another topic.
I have no opinion on this yet.
Like many others said, I'd like to see what you have in mind before saying yay or nay.
The current question is like asking people whether they would like to replace a senator, but not telling them who the replacement will be.
I can maybe think of a way to have both (since I'm guessing claws brutes are part of the reason for this being brought up)
If you are claws/stone you do not get the option of original Granite, but if you are not claws you get a choice between original and the new version (extra crispy?) Probably not feasible, I know, just throwing the possibility out there.
If you can mock up something so we can see what it will look like, we'd be able to give a more informed opinion. But....I don't really want to ask you to do that work only to have it be a resounding "no".

I am all for the change. My Level 41 Stone Tanker would welcome it.
If the size growth is an issue with people, maybe retain +size as part of the power?
I could care less either way as far as the size increase.
With Power Customization soon in effect, I vote that it's time to do away with "Hey, every Stone Tanker's Granite Armor looks the same!"

Hmmm, tough one. I don't play granite often enough, but I got to admit I had a bit of a thematic reason for it where I'd do it once in a while out of combat.
I'd say the pros outweight the bads but If I had such a reason I can see the whole Virtue Server Universe crying in despair...
Curious: would this new "granite" pieces make granite still look bigger than the normal costume? I guess with the sience pack I still can make a second costume I could make huge male and activate that costume every time I turned into Granite.

While I think it's kinda cool to go running around as a big boulder, I think being able to customize would be a better option. I have faith that you'd make it look cool.

I was never really a fan of the npc model you got replaced with, and maybe this would help clear up the issue with claws and Granite.

I really like the Granite form we have now. I like that it makes into a huge DE looking monster. I stand out on the battlefield and when people see me in Granite, they now some bad guy butt kicking is coming. I'd like to keep this version myself.
That said, more options are always good.
