We need more Going Rogue buzz...

Even in game I barely hear any chatter about Going Rogue. Personally, I am so excited about it and the possibility of side switching. I really want to move my villains to heroes because I prefer the Hero side but I also prefer the villain archetypes. (I just feel they are more fun) We already "know" a few things about Going Rogue:

1) Beta will probably start around Oct-Nov

2) Interesting enough, I think it could release this year. City of Villains entered beta either in late August or early September. -- It was then released on Oct 31st...

2A) Going Rogue could see a December release. If GR went into beta in Oct or Nov it would follow the same time frame of the COV beta and be released just in time for Christmas. (Which a business would try to shoot for)

3) We know Going Rogue is adding at least two new powersets: Demon Summoning, Dual Pistols. I believe ALL the ATs may see a new powerset. Remember that old powerset poll from a while back? (When we got WP and Dual Blades), Perhaps we may see some of those.

4) I also hope we see COMPLETE proliferation. Since there are no new ATs being added more focus could be on porting all the sets to each side. Super Strength Scrappers, Regen Brutes, etc.

5) Alternate Animations -- I really think Issue 16 is the tip of the iceberg. I believe Going Rogue is going to give us a LOT more customization and copy Champion Online. In Champion Online you can take a power and choose the animation, IE a blast can come from the chest, hand, fist, head, etc. We've already seen this with MA and Super Strength, I think we'll see even more so in Going Rogue.

6) New Missions -- I think Praetorian Earth is going to revamp missions. We're going to see a balance of the door missions we currently have but also see outdoor missions similar to Champion Online. I also believe Praetorian Earth will be co-op due to this factor. I really believe the outdoor missions and certain door missions you perform set your alignment. (good or bad) -- An example could be: There is an attack in part of the city, do you rescue the citizens or do you go and rob the bank during the chaos?

7) Post level 50 progression -- I think they are going to take the idea from World of Warcraft (And Everquest did this before this) and do post level 50 progression without a level system. The way Everquest did it was a system called Alternate Advance. Basically, at max level you could set your experience gain to go toward earning points. These points could be spent to increase various aspects of a character such as strength, agi, crit chance, etc. As you got more points you could buy abilities like Flurry (A passive ability that sometimes gave you an extra attack when you swing), an AOE taunt (with a 10 min cooldown), etc.

World of Warcraft is doing a similar system in their expansion called the Titan's path. From what it sounds like, via questing you can unlock extra abilities for your character and passive bonuses. There are several paths to take and a character can respec them.

8) End game content -- I also think we will see varied end game content. More difficult material geared toward the maxed out players.

About number 4 - there might be a new AT - a Spy AT was mentioned in that NCSoft marketing survey froma while back.

Also, people lick a battery while watching the trailer - this creates an instant GR buzz

2010?

I'm sticking by my 18 months prediction, but it could be 12 months (we'll see it Spring or Fall 2010).

WoW just announced it's expansion -- we won't see that for 18 months (Lich King was 18 months from announcement to release)

I don't see CoH doing any differently...

I have a pretty good feeling that we will see actual branching story lines. Which path we choose will probably affect some morality compass, but the tech to do branching story lines will most likely be transferred to the MA.

okay, time to tear this up!
1) "All City of Heroes® and City of Villains® players who maintain an active account for the time period beginning August 15, 2009 and ending November 15, 2009 will receive a set of special rewards for their loyalty to Paragon City™ and The Rogue Isles™:

• Closed Beta access* for City of Heroes Going Rogue™" That means GR beta will begin at the EARLIEST Mid-late november

2) See #1, 1 month of beta for a major boxed expansion is unlikely at best.

3) *shrug* Honestly this one is up in the air, wouldn't hold

4) More likely then #3 though I imagine it will just be part of GR's companion issue if it has one. >_> you beter be joking about /regen brutes...seriously? That would be like a /regen tank, /jranger.

5)Now I like customization as much as the next person but the problem with CO's customization is that its VERY poorly done. All the animations are very very similar, there is no variety, sure you can shoot from your crotch but its generic. You trade off blandness for volume.

6)I only partially agree with you there. Public missions would be cool but we really should stick to instances, it works very well for individual player missions.

7)Pure speculation. The devs have stated they are looking at the early game and ways for futhure advancment post-50 but nothing else.

Now if I was to add something....

A revamp of how AE rewards work. Probably some kind of system that combats PLing (and probably by extention farming). Infact I can allmost assure it as they will need to, to motivate the players to really go out and play the expansions content.

Sadly, I think you're right. I believe someone previously pointed out that the time between CoV announce and launch was also > 12 months. I don't know if it was a full 18 months, but the point is that it certainly wouldn't be without precedent.

Branching stories would be a totally awesome addition, even if they weren't too morally complex, as it's been said that the process of switching sides will clearly marked, so it'll probably be "save the kitten/kick the kitten" choices

Also, don't forget that the GR info came out too early - and they've not said when they were actually going to announce it - although, they did have the trailer and website ready, so maybe the official GR announcement date was pretty close to the date it actually leaked out anyway.

Incorrect.

The closed beta access for all accounts in good standing and subscribed between the dates you state is the second wave of beta testers. 60+ month vets are the first wave.

It would seem likely that the 2nd wave of testers will start from soon after the 15th November, but it's also very possible that the first wave could already have been testing for up to a month or more.

I've always thought that something like the following may be possible.
* mid to late Oct for wave 1 (60 month vets)
* mid Nov for wave 2 (subscribed for the c.3month block to mid Nov)
* late Nove/Early Dec for wave 3 (pre-orders)
* mid Dec for launch/live

Giving the product great timing to ride Xmas sales...

I've always suspected that this may be the planned timings - but plans always change.

A blueside, or even worse just a REDUNDANT, Stalker AT? Ergh. Or, hopefully, a shapeshifter (I use my SoA disguise, now I have an arachnos gun! I'm now adopting my OMEGA 1-2-3 Malta skillz, now I have dual pistols!)

Well, Ultimus, if it helps... I've already begun storyboarding out a GR teaser AND trailer. If I can scrounge the funds to license the music I need, I think I can manage something quite spiffy.

How much do those sorts of licenses cost anyway? Just out of curiosity...

Again, if people want to see D_R release more materials, you need to cough up money to help cover the costs.

Not sure if you've looked there D_R but http://www.istock.com was selling royalty-free audio.

This calls to mind that mention of post-50 slots for characters. I've got quite a few character that could use that one. Those lvl 49 powers often beg for more slots...we need 5 slots at lvl 50 at least (it is lvl 50 after all...make it mean something). I may only have a couple of characters who wouldn't use that one.

I think that you're referring to the Universal Enhancement Slots that were included in the survey (aka the what-we-are-working-on list) that went out a year or so ago.

Being called 'Universal' has always made me think that they may work in a similar manner to IO set bonuses - e.g. get 1 and slot it for +acc and you get +x% bonus to all powers that require a to hit roll, slot for +dmg and all damaging powers get a +y% increase.

And just like set bonuses, I could see this type of enhancement system providing small improvements percentage-wise but ones that are impervious to ED limitations.

Certainly hoping that they go that route rather than additional slots - otherwise you probably won't get any way to enhance those powers that you already have 6-slotted.

Er... with side-switching, there'll be blueside stalkers anyway. So.

Having Vengeance and Fallout slotted for recharge means never having to say you're sorry.

By contrast to WoW, SOE announces their expansions and has them out within 6-8 months later. Basically every year.

Our only comparator was CoV which had an extremely short beta period. Going Rogue I'm guessing is this winter, be that December 2009 or Jan-Feb 2010.

The City of Heroes Community is a special one and I will always look fondly on my times arguing, discussing and playing with you all. Thanks and thanks to the developers for a special experience.

I can't really remember being more excited about this game.
Issue 16 is looking to be a great one. Personally, I needed something to get energized about this game again.
Issue 16 will suffice until GR comes out.

Man, I'm so excited about GR.
Just the thought of getting to switch sides is so much more appealing now than I thought it would be.

I can't wait to roll up a Bots/Traps blueside. I've had a concept in mind for this combo for ages, problem is he'd be a hero not a villain.

I'm even more excited about getting to recreate my original main Eng/Eng blaster as his evil twin.
I've recently been missing the combo and wanted to roll thru the 'new' game with it. Now I can and experience all new content redside as well!!

So much to look forward!
