Is it too late to get the badge (it's June and sometimes they go a few days in...)? I forgot to log some characters in...
-
Same here... total fluke of timing and I got one too -- thanks!
-
I'm running a 260 on a four year old Pentium D (3.2) with 3GB ram and I can set everything to Ultra except for the high occlusion settings (the part with color bleed) -- I get around 20 FPS (with everything on the highest except for that color bleed... sorry I can't remember the exact term)

I opened up my iMac yesterday to replace a dead hard drive -- I looked at the video card, and I don't know if there is a way to remove it...
And also, replacing a hard drive can be a little tricky in spots... -

Quote:In the past I have said that it would be great to see 'some kind of server merge' -- and this qualifies... some in-game system that doesn't require us to rename our characters because they closed some random server down and we had to move. There are, however, no plans to merge the servers, but we are looking at designing an in-game system that will help solve the problem. One of my big personal goals is bringing people together, and this will help with that agenda. (How's that for vague? What can I tell you, it's "in development.")
Something like WoW's LFG system where people can group cross-server... that would be awesome.
... and in suggesting 'some kind of server merge' in the past, I watched my green dot below my forum name turn into a red dot... didn't know it was a bad topic to talk about. -
Here's one that I hope they can answer -- Is there a chance in the future that CoH can implement a system of cross-server teaming? Much like the WoW LFG system (or Battlegrounds system) -- what about something for arenas or PvP in general? (cross-server)
-
Quote:Good point... and that would be pretty cool if one could do that in WoW.WoW and LoTRO, don't have super fast travel powers like CoH, so they can load things just outside of your visual range as you travel, compare it to CoH's travel mechanics, where theoretically, you could super jump your way from Ogrimmar to Thunder Bluff in a minute.
Still, with unlimited funds, I would challenge my unlimited workforce to implement a way to do this. -
Seamless exploration... no loading screens. You just run from Atlas Park over to Steel Canyon seamlessly. That is what I would do -- and it would require a lot of money and probably a complete overhaul of the servers to accomplish this...
I've always found it silly that heroes have to take the train.
That was one of the things that disappointed me when Cryptic had another shot at a Hero game... and they kept the loading screens!?
WoW and LoTRO are great at seamless exploration (they still have a couple loading screens here and there, but it's rare) -- I would love to see that here... -
Quote:Virtue was generally the most crowded server this weekend (though they kept switching places between #1 and #2) -- Freedom has a history of being flaky. I had the same problems with Freedom this weekend, and no problems with Virtue. Justice and Victory ran perfectly as well (in my experience).Well, Freedom is *THE* most crowded server - supposedly by a wide margin. At one point, it was speculated that Freedom had more people than all the other servers combined. If that WAS true, I believe it no longer is. Freedom and Virtue seem much closer in population now.
-
It was nice to see the servers back up to the numbers we saw regularly through the first half of last year (around 1000 to 1200 on Virtue hero-side during prime-time Saturday -- it's been around 600-700 regularly since September (excluding hidden characters)).
While on Victory, I could find teams, but it was still sad to see its population max at about 300 but generally stay in the 200s (hero side)... even so, I was able to get my controller from 39 to 45 and give my SG some valuable prestige.
However, I still think some sort of server merge should happen... -
I noticed that the news item says "double XP, influence and infamy," but it doesn't say double prestige. Is prestige doubled? Was it in the past double XP weekends?

True, I did say that - my point was more about what's in the closed beta rather than what is a free update. I do understand that Demon Summoning is a pre-purchase option.
Sorry for derailing Sam's thread about the size of the download.I'm just bummed about not seeing the changes -- he's right, if there's one update to get to see/test early, this is a good one to get into.
-
Quote:I fully understand -- Demon Summoning will be locked to those who didn't pre-purchase, but if you read the text of when to expect it, it will be arriving with the release of i17. Therefore, it could be part of the closed beta testing going on right now... that's all I'm saying.No. I17 is when Demon Summoning is available EARLY for those who PREPURCHASE Going Rogue. Same as Dual Pistols is open EARLY now for the same people.
Ultra Mode is free content, which makes perfect sense. The two powersets still require you to buy Going Rogue in one form or another.
It puzzles just why people find this so hard to understand.
Here's the text again:
Quote:Dual Pistols will be available immediately upon prepurchase, and Demon Summoning will come shortly thereafter with the launch of Issue 17. -
-
Quote:From what I could tell, the log-in interface was the same. (I didn't get into the beta either)I guess I can't see Beta forums, in case they're up above the forum tree like the Dual Pistols ones were. I did look, but then it was a while before I noticed the Dual Pistols ones, too. I don't see them, however, and I can't seem to log into the Test server, so I guess that means that I'm not in. Though, to be fair, before it used to tell me the server was closed for Beta. Now it just says my firewall is probably blocking it.
From what I was able to see, however, the login interface has changed, and that's a good sign. It means the engine overhaul is REALLY thorough.
I know the beta testers can't tell us this (but maybe a Red Name can?), but from the wording of when Demon Summoning is coming, it sounds like it's part of i17?
From the home page news item about pre-purchase:
Quote:Dual Pistols will be available immediately upon prepurchase, and Demon Summoning will come shortly thereafter with the launch of Issue 17. -
Quote:... and I shouldn't have gotten my hopes up when I saw the i17 closed beta announcement. I forgot that long-time, loyal subscribers aren't considered for the closed betas (for issues).Ah right. I was pointing out that what's going into closed beta today isn't GR content.
-
I do get that -- I was just pointing out that you don't need to pre-purchase to have beta access to GR (if you're a 60+ month vet or have the badges from staying a subscriber from August to November).
-
From what I recall, they said that 60+ month vets would get beta access to GR regardless of whether they will purchase it or not...
-
Quote:Ultra-mode was a big part of the GR preview - in fact, they spent more time on that in the GR preview than anything else.Stuff in i17 isn't GR content. It may have been at one point, but everyone's getting i17 for free whereas people will have to pay for GR. The 60+ vets, Hero con attendees, loyalty programmers and GR pre-orderers were promised closed beta access to GR. Dual Pistols and Demon Summoning are part of GR, so they took people out of the GR testing pool to test them.
While i17 contains content that was originally intended for release with GR, it isn't anymore. So while they could still use this pool of testers for i17, they don't really have to. They could use the beta inviting system they have for previous issues, where three-week customers have been included.
... and now Ultra-mode is a part of i17...
Therefore, i17 has GR content (and the set-up content for GR) -
Aren't all 60-month vets getting in.... or was that just a tease? (because they split the GR content into i17, they can get away with saying this closed beta was not meant for 60+ month vets... even though it's GR content and improvements)
-
I think your allowed to at least say you're in the beta test - but no more info other than that.
-
First...
Any screenshots? -
I had to contact customer service to get my 63 month badge -- after waiting 5 days, I decided it was never coming (and I should contact them about it) -- my 66-month badge came on time, on the 4th...
