I'm downloading HOW much?
One thing I'm curious to know, are the graphics settings for a user stored client side or server side? I'm getting a new PC, but will occasionally play on my old laptop. I would hate to have to reset the settings everytime.
Already covered here
I think Graphic settings are client-side Diggis.
Cheers Carni, I figured as much, just wondered if anyone had tested it. Will have to try when I get my new toy.
Yup... Client side.
I already play on several different computers.
Different resolutions, PCs and Macs, etc.
Definitely client side for the settings.

I'm sure those who are in beta appreciate you downloading the patch even though you're not in, and slowing things down for everyone who could have been testing.

I appreciate your snark, but the only way I can tell whether I am or am not in Beta is to try to log in. I was sure I wasn't in Dual Pistols Beta until I tried to log into Test and realised I was. I never got an invitation e-mail, so I've no reason to expect I'll get one now.

Everyone who is in beta, has access to the beta forums. If you can't see them, you're not in.
|
From what I was able to see, however, the login interface has changed, and that's a good sign. It means the engine overhaul is REALLY thorough.

Co-leader of Callous Crew SG. Based on Union server.
I guess I can't see Beta forums, in case they're up above the forum tree like the Dual Pistols ones were. I did look, but then it was a while before I noticed the Dual Pistols ones, too. I don't see them, however, and I can't seem to log into the Test server, so I guess that means that I'm not in. Though, to be fair, before it used to tell me the server was closed for Beta. Now it just says my firewall is probably blocking it.

I know the beta testers can't tell us this (but maybe a Red Name can?), but from the wording of when Demon Summoning is coming, it sounds like it's part of i17?
From the home page news item about pre-purchase:
Dual Pistols will be available immediately upon prepurchase, and Demon Summoning will come shortly thereafter with the launch of Issue 17. |

So Issue 17 contains two items originally slated for Going Rogue.? (Ultra-Mode and Demon Summoning)
|
Ultra Mode is free content, which makes perfect sense. The two powersets still require you to buy Going Rogue in one form or another.
It puzzles just why people find this so hard to understand.

From what I could tell, the log-in interface was the same. (I didn't get into the beta either)
|
Turns out, the interface borders have been altered. The corners, more specifically, are different and much more angular. The radius of the turn is much smaller, which leads me to believe that the entire UI has been retouched, probably redone from scratch but made to match the old one so we don't whine for an option to revert back to what we had.
The difference is subtle, but it gives the menus a very different "feel" that I can't adequately describe with words.
I would imagine that Demon Summoning will be unlocked for those with prepurchase of the Going Rogue when I17 goes live. Not for everyone.
|
If I had to make a guess, I'd say I17 will launch some time soon and we'll see a Demon Summoning Beta immediately once that's done.

No. I17 is when Demon Summoning is available EARLY for those who PREPURCHASE Going Rogue. Same as Dual Pistols is open EARLY now for the same people.

Here's the text again:

I fully understand -- Demon Summoning will be locked to those who didn't pre-purchase, but if you read the text of when to expect it, it will be arriving with the release of i17. Therefore, it could be part of the closed beta testing going on right now... that's all I'm saying.
Here's the text again: WITH the launch of Issue 17 (to those people who pre-purchase) |
Unfortunately, Im not in Closed Beta this time *sigh*
Dern it!

Sorry for derailing Sam's thread about the size of the download.

If anything, it's the biggest content update in terms of raw file size we've gotten, second only to CoV. Granted, things like Inventions or the Architect may have had a great impact, but this is like downloading a whole new game on top of this one.

I'm posting this here because I'm pretty sure I'm NOT in Beta, but... Wow! Yesterday, we were sort of sitting idly by, checking every now and then to see if the I17 patch on Test was on, and it wasn't. I guess they wanted to get Dual Pistols into the game and settled down first. At some point, I completely forgot about this and just went about playing the game. You know, like I should have done all along.
So I wake up today, turn on the PC and I think to myself: "Self, we both know we're not in I17 Beta, but just for kicks, let's update our Test client." And so we did. At first it was connecting for a long time, like it did during Dual Pistols Beta, so I let it connect while I did my morning routine. After a while I saw that it was downloading... An 879 MB patch. Wait, the Hamidon is a what what of what? An 879 MB patch? The who of the what now? But that's like... Almost as big as ALL of City of Heroes when I first bought it. What the hell?
You know, I realise that art and graphics are pretty much the bulk of a game's size, and that I17 is pretty much entirely art and graphics, but it really never quite dawned on me just HOW massive of an update this is. You know, we like to say "Oh, it's just some reflections and a few shadows? That's all?" Well, folks, my game's current size is 2.8 GB right now. Just this one update alone increases it by over 30%. This is NOT a small update. This is NOT a minor thing. This is... Well, it's HUGE! It kind of sucks that I probably won't be in closed Beta, because if ever there was something in the game worth seeing ahead of time, this is it!
Wow. Just... Wow!
