I hate the new forum!

The stream of profanities coming out of my mouth right now cannot begin to express my displeasure of the new forums... and I question whether or not I'll actually be able to post this because of that.

Let me explain. It's not that I dislike the way they are laid out, nor am I not partial to the color scheme... it's all about Firefox.

The new forums hate firefox, and therefore I hate these forums. it seems at least 50% of the time when I try to do *anything* I am logged out and have to log in... then there's probably about a 75% chance that I won't stay logged in THROUGH THE LOGIN PROCESS!

please! don't make me use internet explorer... oh, how I loathe internet explorer!

Try this:

  • Delete your cookies for the boards. May be two sets, boards.cityofheroes.com and boards.coh.com. Nuke 'em both.
  • Make sure you're going to boards.cityofheroes.com, not boards.coh.com.

I had the same problem initially, but doing the above fixed it. I use FF 3.0.12 with just the NoScript addon, and I have no issues anymore.

I never had the issue with my firefox, mind you that's cause I always went through the boards.cityofheroes site, not boards.CoH

Hope it works for you =O

How far out of synch with the forum clock is your system clock? Adjusting your system clock closer to forum time (assuming the usual cookie fixes don't work and fixing the URL you use) might do the trick.

I had this happen the other day. Odd thing was what got my login to work was to try logging in with the wrong password. Strangely, the "incorrect login" message appeared in my User CP and I stayed logged in from that point.

This is not an issue with Firefox specifically; there are many people using Firefox with the new forums (including me) with no issues

I ran into a problem with Firefox months ago where on my main computer, it suddenly wouldn't remember my login for ANY forum. And I like to remain logged in to the city of heroes forums.

Now I use Google Chrome. It happens to be faster than Firefox too, so that didn't hurt.

I can't hate the new forums any more, because I've seen both Lady Athyna =and= KaliMagdalene. If it's brought them back, it can't be that bad.

Firefox 3.5 got a speed upgrade, so the difference isn't so much. Firefox is still a resource hog if you leave it open long enough.

It just seems like every time I open it it has to wait 2 full minutes to check for add-ons or upgrades to something. I realize this is probably magnified by the fact that I don't open it as often as I used to... still, Chrome, like everything Google does, is very streamlined and simplified, and I always like that.

I still like Firefox about a bazillion times more than IE. I like Safari more than IE. I like Opera more than IE. I think I'd prefer searching the web with my bare hands more than using IE.

This is happening to me as well Psyonico... Try Google Chrome, it1s light and has no login issues.

The problem happens in Google Chrome and IE too.

What I've found: don't use the login across the top. It's buggy. I think it's mis-applying cookies.

Go to an area that requires a login and use the login that appears in the center area of the screen, not the toolbar one.

I bookmarked the UserCP, so I get that central login every time I follow the link. Haven't has the problem since.

Maybe its one of your add-ons. I only use Firefox and I havent had any kind of problem like what you describe.

Happens to me too with Firefox... deleting cookies doesn't resolve it either. I never had any problems with this site until this new forum.

NOTE: I had to log in twice just to post that reply. Once to open the reply box, the second to get it posted. ANNOYING.

IME, Firefox and Chrome are about the same speed, but Chrome uses more RAM. There are some features Chrome has and Firefox doesn't, which I enjoy, though. Like the speed dial page for new tabs, tearing off tabs to form new windows, and Incognito Mode

Firefox 3.5 has a private browsing mode, tearing off tabs, and there are add-ons to replicate speed dial.

I had this problem about a year ago. This site should help: http://support.mozilla.com/tiki-view...9363&forumId=1

The part about deleting cookies.sqlite-journal and cookies.txt file fixed it for me.

I like it a lot better. Supposedly it's better on resources as well and a lot faster. All the big name addons should be updated by now, but you might lose some of the "lesser" addons. For example, I can no longer change anything I type into binary code or leet speak. I never used that addon anyways, just giving an example.

edit: Also, if/when firefox crashes you can now select which(if any) tabs to open back up in case there is only one particular problem site. Not as good as what Chrome does, but it's better than what it used to be.

Here is a link to 3.5's updates: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/features/

Well, I just tried that on top of clearing out cookies previously, I'll see how it goes.

It still took me three attempts to log in, though.

cleared my cookies: no luck
cleared my cache: stayed logged in for at least the couple of links that I tried, so next time I visit the forum I'll give it a shot.

Also, because I like the news feed on the main site, I always log in through cityofheroes.com then click on the forum link (which leads to boards.cityofheroes.com)
