I don't know what to make of this!

I won't lie. I spent all of my time over the weekend in AE. I've been playing for (I think) a couple of years now and I absolutely hate life before stamina. I used the time to level a few toons I've been wanting to play at least past level 20.

One of these was a tanker who I ended up having a -lot- of fun playing and as a result, kept right on playing way way past twenty.

I've had a lot of experience in putting together PUGs and with few exceptions, I find the process easy and often a lot of fun. I have a certain combination I like in my teams and spend the extra time looking for specific AT's. As a result we usually end up blowing through reds and purples with little if any faceplants, so I know I build good teams.

I give you this background because I'm not sure what to make of what happened the other day! I was doing my usual, sending tells to a particular AT. I believe I was only trying to fill two or three spaces. I had sent a tell to a bunch of people. All of the responses were very appropriate, ranging from absolute silence to polite declines or acceptances.

But then I got this tell. "Do you have a 50 tank or fire/kin on your team?"

I was a 44 tank, we had a kin, but not a fire/kin. Besides which, I didn't really understand the relevance of the questions as I specifically mentioned "AE" in the invite.

My response was "Uh... no?"

Their response was, "Then no."

What am I missing here? Is this some kind of trend I'm unaware of? Was this person looking for a farm and thought I wasn't running one? And why 50 tank or fire/kin? I am really... really baffled here.

This, sir, is an example of an *****. Just laugh when this happens. I do that laugh where air comes out of my nose and I smile and you don't hear me verbally laughing through my mouth because it is still closed, when I hear someone do something like this.

I just think "You *****... I'm going to go farther in this game than you," and laugh.

I suggest you do the same thing as me because you don't need a 50 tank or fire/kin with speed boost and Fulcrum shift to WIN in this game. This means you have to laugh exactly as I do. It's almost a rule.

I like to set up teams how I want, too. I usually go with 3-4 controllers, a tank 32+, and any 3-4 blasters 32+. I try NOT to take any Illusion Controllers because the phantom army is weird sauce and I've only seen a small amount of PA controllers who actually play good (Most are very careless.)

Just pretend this never happened, Teehka.

Honestly? What you said was the absolute first thing that crossed my mind upon reading the thread title. If you hadn't posted the quote from Airplane!, I would have.

"Johnny! How 'bout some coffee?"

Apparantly, even on the new forums we still can derail like pro's

On topic, yeah I suspect there are players out there who are indeed just as picky. Some for example don't wish to team up with me because I'm not a "dedicated" healer when I play my d3. One time I had a strange request on my MM robotics/bubbles ... I could join if I only bubbled, but not waste time on my droids ... right ...

anyway, some like oranges others prefer apples. Such is life.

This.

Seems a bit rich for the OP to act surprised, even offended, at the response he/she received.

Q. Just wondering Posi, where are the new dance emotes we were told would come with GR?
A. Positron: Whoops, my bad.

Some players come from other, poorly balanced games and haven't got the memo that this game doesn't work like that.

I agree. The OP seems to be picky and so was the person that didn't want to team with them.

I can make a team of any combination of AT's at random based on the players that are willing to accept invites and have a team that will be able to mow through rugged by level 5-7 and inv by level 30-35 without team wipes as long as the team works together as a team - and - the players that are having a hard time are willing to modify their behavior to improve their survivability and mesh with the team dynamics better.
Usually when someone falls on my teams it will be the same player falling over and over again because they won't modify their tactics to fit the teams dynamics.

Then again, I don't like running the same kinds of teams all the time. It's boring to me.
I like the excitement of seeing teams being successful with odd combination of powers.

My preferred team type at this point is the no tanker/no scrapper team.
And like I said, most of the time no one falls on the team unless someone is over anxious and then it is usually that character that falls...repeatedly.

About 18 posts later and only about 3 posts came close to answering the OP's question. Gee...

Oh and that question was, since most everyone seems to have missed it:

The 'trend' is that too many players using AE only want easy Experience/rewards. The Fire/Kin is either at the top or close to the top of the list for preferred/effective farming AT's.

As for the 50 tank, that takes a little more guesswork but here are some possibilities.
  1. They would have all the possible powers/slots available.
  2. They might have slotted Purple sets.
  3. IMO, the most likely reason is this. With farm maps that spawn lvl 54's, the team has a better chance of staying alive (and keeping the tank alive) if said aggro magnet is lvl 50. Especially considering that a natural sk could only be as high as lvl 49 and an auto-SKd tank would be even less.

Actually, the question was answered. Repeatedly. What he was missing was that he's not the only person that thinks teams have to be built a specific way.

I think I'm going to start doing this when peole invite me to AE farms(my search comment says plainly on all toons NO FARMS)

Actually, this makes sense. If they're doing the 'centralize aggro on the tank/brute and AoE to your heart's content' strat, your bots run counter to that (knockback and burn/ignite patches). So inviting you to bubble is the same thing as inviting a defender or corruptor to buff/heal. There are many people who prefer to keep things as simple as possible. A "Oh look, the assault bot just blasted a mob into the next group/spawn. Incoming!" situation requires thought. Some people don't like that.

Some people are absolutely convinced that unless you have a tanker, a "healer" or a fire/kin, your team cant possibly be any good or worthwhile. These types have always existed ingame, and always likely will. Theyre usually good for a laugh when you murder content without them.
