So... Issue 16 then?

If you believe what the devs say, and there's no reason NOT to, before the MA they basically had to script missions manually. They had no tool remotely like it to make their jobs easier, and probably explains the lack of content lately.

Now that the MA is here, it's a tool THEY TOO can use to generate content much easier. Obviously, they have a more powerful version of it though.

Which makes i15 an even BIGGER "Huh?". They have the MA tool now, so no longer do they have any excuses for content light issues.

[/ QUOTE ]

To be fair, the devs working on I15 wouldn't have had this tool available at the time - since they are working on 2 issues in parallel allegedly.

But that then raises the question why not give us something else to mark the birthday and then create the SFs for I16? As has been pointed out already several times there's a lot of false promises made. They could have come good on some (even just one?) of those.

Maybe theirs is as buggy as ours... And perhaps what we're getting for i15 is all they could fit in the 100k memory capacity

I've tried building a playable, interesting, novel arc and it takes aaaaages. I've still not managed to publish one. I doubt I ever will. I still have an uneducated suspicion that creating the player (reasonably) friendly front-end is possibly an offshoot of other projects, quite possibly to make mission-creation less of a chore for Devs; although I've known programmers who can type away in some arcane computer language more happily than many of us can make it through Word, so perhaps the phrase "script missions manually" might actually be less horrifying than it reads?. Given it's bugs and breakages and other grumbles that I keep hearing about, could it be that there's something in the idea that the MA is somewhat less of a colossus than first seems, and has been construed as something so fabulous because it's quite unique amongst MMOs? I still think it's a great tool, and one that other games' players should envy (and possibly do). I'm just not convinced that it's such that we can take it as a sign that the old game engine isn't going to be rebuilt/replaced. On the contrary, it may even herald a replacement.

It's perhaps too early to speculate, though. And until Positron opens his forbidden closet of mystery tonight, though, it's all speculation. Once he does, however, it will be too late to speculate. But at least then we can begin speculating on the impact his revelation may have. Unless Positron's going to be speculating too. But I don't want to speculate about that.

Apologies! I have nothing against Mondeos, per se, but I was and always will be a Cortina man. I disliked the Sierra because it replaced the Cortina. I have no real opinion on the Mondeo. It did replace the vile Sierra, but it's not the Cortina

I despise Clarkson, though.

I see what you're getting at Dan, I'm not going to mock you because you make a very good point it's just I really can't see why they would put all the work into the MA if they were just going to drop City of Heroes in (random timeframe chosen at random) a years time for City of Heroes 2.

Sequals never really work in the MMO market place, often end up dividing the playerbase between 1 and 2 (as I beleive happened with Everquest 1 and 2) in order to faciliate a complete changeover they would have to not only stop supporting City of but also shut it down completely, forcing people to either run emulated version of City of heroes original or upgrade to City of Heroes 2.

What's more likely is that they'll do a complete engine overhaul and have that slide in, effectively turning City of Heroes into city of heroes 2 without the need for shutting anything down.

However even whether those going to be anything of substance beyond 'been here for five years, that's great, games doing great, you're all great, great things to come' in Positrons speech is still very much up in the air...please Positron, I hope so very much, so dearly, that you don't do that, that you say something big is coming and TELL US WHAT IT IS...soon doesn't cut it anymore, not with competition so close at hand...enlighten the players as to what it is you've got planned for the future, please I beg of you...

Well I just thought that something as important as a new issue could have at least made its way to the EU main pages as well. Instead it takes a player on the forums here to let me know about it.

It's shoddy and it's lazy IMHO.

But ... in answer to your question ... No I didn't

That kind of thing though is much harder to market against new competition (here, come play our 5 year old game! It's shiny now!)

*shrugs*

I hope he's got something really good planned, rather than just a "insert corporate buzzwords and no negative thoughts at all" speech.

They're bastards to write those things - I've got a presentation to do on Thursday and I'm not allowed to get political or negative about a purely negative and politcal subject.

I'm hoping that my opening joke will kill them (literally). Maybe Posi is hoping the same?

Nah. The things about the MA that would have required hard work (besides sitting down and thinking of a good way of structuring the mission creation process) is all the stuff that the developers wouldn't need (in-game UI and presence, mission up- and download, database of missions, rating system) and the things they plain didn't have (enemies customiseable with the costume editor, AT powers and AIs to run them.)

That's semantics pure and simple. If they had any intentions of treating the EU as equals or with regard, they would have released this info at a time we are all up and about like 11 am eastern standard. Then all time zones are accommodated.
it's really not hard to keep your fan base happy if you want.

We have a saying over here. "It'll be alright, an' if it ain't it doesn't matter".

Even if I can agree that I15 is a bit thin, it's an issue with things I like. I care about more cossie stuff. I care about TFs and missions, and yes, I'd want more, but there's a MA full of stuff. I'd say it's brilliant - it doubled the amount of content overnight.

Of course there will be more farming, because there's more content overall. Besides, people seem to like farming. There are people that for some strange reason like PvP too, and I won't stand in the way for their fun.

I play CoH to be a superhero/villain with my mates. I don't play CoH to be dazzled by all the stuff that the devs could put into the game. So they don't dazzle me with I15 - so what? That's not why I play.

---

Okay, there are three things I really would like added to this game.

<ul type="square">[*]Smaller issues more often. Not these mega-releases twice a year, but smaller ones every two to three months. That means more story content, maybe more graphics, but probably not any big systems. They would be cool to have, but please put another team on those.[*]More tails.[*]And animated hair, just to see what GG would wish for next.[/list]
...but as the two latter are very unlikely, period, and the former seems to be heralded with I15 anyway, I'm not dissappointed. So there.

She was great. But you know what? I got a distinct vibe from Posi that was "I'm done with this, let's wheel out the Canadian, they all love her."

He responded to some questions, but ignored any that seemed even vaguely difficult except the PVP questions because he was pressed repeatedly on them. To the question "What is so difficult about touching base wtih the EU from time to time" his reply was simply "I'm here now aren't I?" If he replied to my point that was once in 3 years I didn't hear it.

I overwhelmingly got the impression that Posi thinks it's their game, they know what's best and sod the paying customer.

It was early in the morning for them, probably done before the start of the working day. I know how grumpy I get if someone calls me before 8am.

That's no excuse. You think he's the only person had to do a PR job early in the morning?

The EU collectively pays some serious wedge for his and the rest of the Dev team wages - especially with exchange rates as they are. If that discommodes him for a morning then my heart bleeds.

Why we should be treated differently than the US?

BTW, same thing happens with EU restructure, where many jobs that were previously handled in the NCsoft Europe and NCsoft Austin offices are relocated to the US development studios if I am not mistaken, but they are still serving us.
