even proliferation happening every other was more of a wish on there part rather than a set in stone it'll definitely happen promise

Shadowe/Chemlak's opinions of I15. Contains strong language and frank opinions.

The wisdom of Shadowe: Ghostraptor: The Shadowe is wise ...; FFM: Shadowe is no longer wise. ; Techbot_Alpha: Also, what Shadowe said. It seems he is still somewhat wise ; Bull Throttle: Shadowe was unwise in this instance...; Rock_Powerfist: in this instance Shadowe is wise.; Techbot_Alpha: Shadowe is very wise *nods*; Zortel: *Quotable line about Shadowe being wise goes here.*

I thought I would never say that in my life:
I agree with FFM.

Oh my... There, I've said it.

I15 announcement doesn't remind me at all the moment when GhostRaptor was saying about great things coming in the future (I suppose that what he knows, will remain a secret or will be revealed at later time, either way will have no meaning to us if we aren't here) and to be honest, I am tired of waiting of that future any more...

Nevertheless, I will wait for tonight's (or should I say tomorrow's...) announcement and if refers again to the "future" (i.e. post-I15), I will stop waiting for it, cancel my subscription and concentrate on the real future (Aion in my case because I had a chance to see it and I loved it, as from what I hear, CO is way more boring than what CoX is becoming, although that remains to be seen, I guess in open beta).

CoX was great but now it's built for the armies of drones that steady and greedily are sucking up more and more of what is left of our community, leaving the rest of us to have no other choice than to just quit...

I think it speaks volumes that I had to scrabble around amidst threads that are several places down the list before I found the details of I15 linked to here.

There's NOTHING official either announcing or linking to an announcement anywhere on the EU forums. Either the company just doesn't care enough or they can't remember where all the non-dollar subs are coming from.

So... who's remaking their favourite CoX toons on CO later?

For me, CO is a game which i plan to avoid.. I've seen pictures, i've seen videos, i've seen features, and frankly, just a character editor won't make me play a game..

Plus, the cell shading is a feature i really dislike, and even turning it off, the game looks stupid to my eyes..

As for my favorite chars? They will remain in CoX, until the game dies, or i cancel my subscription..

Frankly, after what i've seen for i15, i'm giving it some thought, and believe me, until yesterday a cancellation for me was out of the question..

This may sound cruel, but i'd rather see a dramatic improvement in the game (graphically AND in features) for i15, than some "tweaks" for Mission Architect.. The architect is nice, BUT.....

Some FREE games look a lot better to the eye (and ear) for crying out loud! Don't you think it's time for an improvement in CoX as well?

Yup, just agreeing here... too much promised, too little delivered. I was awaiting some nice and surprising announcement for the 5:th anniversary and the first thing I read is "4 chronos dancing on top of the Atlas statue". Expectations drops rapidly... is this it? Is this IT? It's could have been slightly fun if they had not blown up the expectations months ahead. Slightly.

Well, if something ground breaking IS coming up this week I will gladly eat the above words. I hope I have to but ... well. Rock and Rant over.

OK, here's a little shiny optimism! Could the following be possible?

NCSoft has been thinking for over a year about the new issues they'd like to schedule, and they've done their best to spread out as much of the available content as possible, so that the players get at least something new every few months.

The reason that the content of all these last few Issues is very thin compared to earlier Issues can't be that they haven't got the resources or an eye on the long-term. The recent restructurings, relocations and hiring, together with the slightly less recent acquisition of the CoX franchise from Cryptic, all suggest a commitment to the game for the future that includes long-term development and innovation.

So maybe, very possibly, there's an excellent reason for the paucity of glittering shiny in these recent Issues: the Devs may have had something better to do: You wouldn't pay £500 for the necessary welding to get your old Astra through it's next MoT, for example, if you knew you were taking delivery of a new Bentley before then...

Consequently I'm expecting Positron to include something big in his announcement. He may not mention CoH2 specifically, but I guess that's the root reason for this comparatively underwhelming update release, and its announcement would almost certainly spray mud on the sparkly bodywork of CO's new Mondeo...

(OK, OK... enough of the car analogies... I'll never do it again...)

Hmm you may be right Dan.

A little voice in the back of my head is now going 'ok things HAVE been kind of spares with regard issues as of late for the past year...what is it that would take a year to make and would cause reduction in dev time/availablity'.

Of course my hopeful thoughts then turn to the idea of developing a new game engine, strip out the old one, it's good but there's too much stuff bolted on to it however if this had been the case, why release the mission architect if they're going to gut the game and build from the ground up...so that's a no...

Power customisation, technically this does require a whole new engine, however they could have been working on this in secret for the past year ever since Champions begun touting it which would cause a fall in the level of stuff available, it becomes a 'maybe' a possibility but may not be the entire reason.

Graphical update, this seems the most likely but surely just making a new game engine would have solved the problem, though a graphical update would take a lot less work than gutting the game and starting all over, this too has become a distinct possibility if we follow the line of thinking.

The most depressingly is 'nothing' they simply focused all their eggs in one basket in the MA, hoping that by allowing user created content it would refresh the game so extensively that any major overhaulage wouldn't be needed, I doubt this, they've seen the reaction to the MA, overall positive, quite a bit of fairly placed negative critic and a few shouts and rants to know that the MA probably isn't something they should hold up as being able to completely retain their playerbase.

I hold out hope beyond all hope that Positron is making a big annoucement with regards either power customisation or a massive graphical update, after all it would explain why content had been sparse this last year or so.

What I'm dreading is if he just does a speech, patting himself on the back and reassuring other people how wonderful they are and how great the game is right now and that there will be great things in the future but he won't reveal any details yet (aka the dreaded Soon).

If he does do that speech then, for all those looking for a reason to quit, who are fed up with the game, it's pretty much game over, they're out of here and it's not going to win him any popularity contests EU side...

These sort of things are what I would like, and would entice me to stay on. Even if there were no new missions or arcs or TF's; just a brand new coat of paint, would be enough to make things feel fresh again.

Though a reworking of places like Steel, so that they actually look like proper cities, would be nice.

To keep with the car analogy. Since i12 we've been sold on the basis that we're getting a McLaren SLR "Soon", if i15 turns out to be a repainted Vectra with 100k on the clock then it could get rather ugly.

QFT.

If this immense super-global announcement is anything like the I14 Follow-Up statement, then I think we'd all better go and find our credit card details for somewhere else.

I'm sure a good chunk of it will be patting CoX and its players on the back for five years of paying his mortgage, but there absolutely has to be items of substance in the broadcast.

Fingers crossed.

There are many like it, but this is mine.

Any car I can pick up for £500 and not need any work to get through a MoT gets my vote.

I know it's not quiet the same, but back in the day, when Core were revamping the whole Tomb Raider engine, they released a big ol' mission editor with TR3, the last to be released using that engine. Could it be that there's a similar logic at work behind the MA? I know that that's the parallel I drew in my own little mind when I heard that the MA was coming. Not being any more technologically apt than the gerbils that run around on the wheels that make this game work, I can't know without asking; is it possible that for all its fanfare the MA is a resprayed, truncated model of a Dev tool that may actually have taken less resource to produce than we might otherwise imagine (because it looks big) because many of the ingredients were already available? Could it also be the basis of a tool for some future player-hosted version of thegame that will become available to players when they cease supporting CoH and turn instead to CoH2?

Don't be too quick to mock, I have no idea of the tech here, but to me the notion doesn't seem entirely unfeasible.

Good grief, where did the underlying optimism come from? Who's stolen my Grumpy?

Positron's not just named after the particle, you know! It's probably because Optimism Man doesn't roll off the tongue very well.

And would have an awful back story.

If you believe what the devs say, and there's no reason NOT to, before the MA they basically had to script missions manually. They had no tool remotely like it to make their jobs easier, and probably explains the lack of content lately.

Now that the MA is here, it's a tool THEY TOO can use to generate content much easier. Obviously, they have a more powerful version of it though.

Which makes i15 an even BIGGER "Huh?". They have the MA tool now, so no longer do they have any excuses for content light issues.

Rather ironic that they come up with 5 mission TFs and SFs then, isn't it?

I'll just add my voice to the pile here - this is not the issue I personally was looking for and unless Positron has something fantastic to say later (preferably not more Marketing Drone guff), their competitor has got another confirmed player (not that I don't have concerns about CO, but at least they're new concerns!)

I've been reading this and several other threads for the last hour or so, and I must admit that I'm disappointed too... well, we cannot say that they haven't given us ANY content at all in the last 2-3 issues... we've had a new map, a bit of powerset proliferation, a couple of booster packs... BUT there are lots of things hanging at least since 2007: Hero 1 fate, "Coming" (who knows when ) Storm, Mender Silos true alliegance, Return of 5th Column (at least it seems this has been included in the next Issue), more Strike Forces to compensate heroside, 1 or 2 maps revamped, Positron and Synapse TFs shortened. Anyway, watching these things are "answerless", and we have been longing them for quite some time, no matter what kind of content they bring us we will always think we've been ignored with good reason.

Problem comes IMHO with Architect. I really believed that MA would brings lots of funny player created story arcs, and it did it... for the 2-3 first days, the 4th one people started queuing in Atlas trying to join farm and powerlvl missions.

As a veteran player (nearly 46 months), I don't mind, after having played "the old way" 12 50s, to powerlevel a bit, that's how I made a lvl 8 MM to reach lvl 23, or a brand new defender go from lvl 1 to lvl 25... BUT I'm sorry for new players that did the same and missed lots of arcs, contacts, badges and tfs / sfs, as they could possibly think that this game has no other interesting thing to offer, specially with such kind of announcement that brings NOTHING really exciting nor interesting. This is a hard blow to playerbase in general, not only veterans for the lack of the content we've been looking forward and been promised the last 2 years, but also by converting CoX in "City of Farmers" for the new ones.
