Quick rant coming...Please fellow players, if someone is polite enough to take the time to send you a tell, please return the favor and reply back! even if its a quick "no".
I sent about 10 tells today to fellow players without a single response! Like many others after sending a tell for an "any space" I am honour bound to wait before sending any others to other players...but without a reply, this takes an absolute age. So please be polite, and reply!!

Many thanks

I find this very annoying as well and every one of the posts stating this problem my response has been similar.

There are next to no (I have never been in any) situations I can think of where you would not have the chance to send a tell. Hitting 4 or 5 keys (backspace + no/yes + enter) takes less than 1 second and this game is not tight with seconds.

It's just a bad habit not to answer a question. In real life (yeah, had to play that card) you're expected to answer something if someone asks you something.

I always reply but its not always convenient to reply instantly. When soloing I can be up to my eyebslls in minions smacking me and have to finish them off first. I find it better to wait until I can say something polite rather than just a one word answer which can appear to be a rude reply. The only time I send a very short reply is if I am in a team and there is space I send "1 sec" then reply after asking the team leader if we can invite.

I agree that it can appear rude to not have a reply to a tell but there are sometimes circumstances where the tell gets overlooked. The player may be afk and the tell scrolls up so they don't see it, or they may get several tells during a fight and only reply to the one that came in last not realising there were others. I've done stupid things like chatting to a friend and sending a wildly odd comment to someone else I hadn't realised had just sent me a tell

I don't think many people are intentionally rude, I just think that the majority have valid reasons for not replying.

I will always reply as soon as I am able. I think its only common courtesy to do so.

Some indeed can have valid reasons..but 10 in a row! i kid you not, and its been like this for a while, when somebody /t me and i reply, even if its a "no, full sorry", the reaction is "Thx so much for replying!" its just seems to me that the majority are just plain rude

I have also noticed recently that alot of people are just not replying to tells.... very frustrating.

I actually gave up replying to these. Why?

Because I noticed whenever I got one I'd start with the "X wants to know if they can..." before they'd pop onto the team anyway. Any ones I got the whole team, including the leader, seemed to get as well.

So if I'm mid-combat I just tend to assume nowadays that at least half the rest of the team got the same tell seconds later too and they can deal with it.

I always try to reply to tells a.s.a.p. If someone asks me to get in my team and I'm not the leader I send a tell back: Ask <insert team leader's name>

But like someone mentioned, sometimes people are not at the screen, I know when soloing and waiting for my end to build I go alt tabbing and browsing some forums or check my mail.

I missed one today, didn't realised I had, but someone sent me a tell while I was in another room and chat had pushed it off the screen while I was away. Only noticed it a fair while later when I was looking back through consignment house records for something. Sorry to who that was, am pretty sure it wasn't you though Jag

I can understand most of non replies below level 14, as one can think majority of that players are on trial accounts. For the ones on higher levels i can think only very few excuses but this is the way some people choose to behave i guess.

I always send detailed tells for invites and try to reply all the tells send to me, even if they are for farming or filling requests. I guess this is not because i am very polite but because i always try to treat people the way i want to be treated.

Honestly even if we fill the whole forums with No blinds, send replies topics, people continue to do this. So in the end i think it is better to focus finer part of the community and continue to enjoy the game.

This goes back to what I said in the No Blinds Thread/Rant.

I can understand people's frustration if you set yourself up rules for other player to follow in order to contact you but then don't return an equal level of manners.

I am one that says No Blinds but I always make the effort to reply to a tell. If I am flagged that I am LFT then my response is usually a quick "Sure, sign me up". If I am flagged not LFT but people send a tell, that's not a problem for me as at least they still sent a tell allowing me to think about what I am doing at the time. Could be that I am not LFT as I am busy with something else but sometimes I might decide that actually I have nothing else going on so reply back say yes I will join.

Of course there are times when I can't reply right away ether because I am mid battle or I had to go AFK for a moment. I do try when going AFK to set that up so that auto reply takes place. I would still eventually respond offering my apologies for the late reply and say why that was. I have always had a nice response from people who understood why there was a late reply.

So to the OP I can sympathise with you on this frustration. As I have said before. Yes enforce a No Blinds rule if you feel you need it as I certainly do but make sure you have the courtesy of replying back.

Although I would guess that not everyone needs telling this as most already do. Just seems really bad luck you got that many non responses in a row one time.

No you're not. Unless you're saying "I'm holding a space just for you!" Teams fill up, spaces go to other people. If I don't reply immediately, I don't necessarily expect the space to still be there (and indeed, it often isn't).

Basically, if you send tells and expect replies, you're going to be disappointed. Polite people will reply if they're able to - but they may not be able to. And not everyone is polite.

Not getting replies is something you have to live with. If you really feel honour-bound to wait an absolute age just in case, you're going to be waiting a lot.

If you really want to keep your conscience clear, say something like "Want to join a team L X doing blah? Spaces free right now, but let me know ASAP if interested". That way the recipient is aware spaces may not be available if they take too long to reply.

Having tells sent out to my whole team repeatedly the last days, this post really bugged me. There may be TONS of reasons not to answer. Let me give some examples:

1. You're actually busy playing the game. Answering a complete stranger the bugs the whole team is definitely ignored (more reasons for this is coming)
2. Team might be full, no response = no. Learn to accept that.
3. If you do send a no, it's my experience that the completely stupid follow-up is imminent: "Why?". This may be followed by a 30 minute long debate on why you don't want to invite a complete stranger that's 30 levels below you. Best case, a hero sent me a tell asking for invite as I was exiting Pocket D.
4. If you're editing base, respeccing, making a new cossie etc there's no possible way to answer that tell of yours, or even read it.
5. You logged on for some quality solo time, maybe even closed the chat window beacuse you want the meditative experience of the solo play.

I could go on for 1234123 pages with more reasons why you will not get a response. It's like those STUPID blind invites (some people even keep repeating them even when you tell them off).

Now, apparently you have some sense, by actually waiting and not spamming madly until someone sends an invite, but...

If you really want a team, send a LFT in broadcast, and join some of the channels for it, or even better, start your own team and start inviting people after sending them tells.

Yes you guessed it, I HATE those fri"#¤ "Can I join team" spam-tells. Don't get me wrong, I love teaming and it's sad to see people not using the status indicator when I'm trying to pull people together for an ITF etc, but really... If you want a team there's WAY BETTER methods than those #¤%# tells.

Like blind invites, I consider sending loads of "invite me" requests as bad as poeple calling me on my mobile to sell [censored] I've never asked for. While you, the original poster obviously don't really SPAM, most of those tells are basically mad tell-spams and they're definitely ignored unless the team could use a total useless filler.

Any other tells, and/or when I'm not busy, just hanging out I do answer any tell, try to help out as much as I can but calling people rude for not answering a complete stranger would imho be rude.

Oh, also note, that this game has very very poor handling of private tells. I regularly chat with loads of people and it's rather hard since those chats doesn't open up in their own tabs or something.

Going back to a non-globals tell to answer might be quite a lot of effort, especially if you have a strange alt name and the person supposed to answer hasn't set up private tells on it's own tab (and I s'pose most people actually haven't)

I put every channel in a separate tab. Feels more organised to me. . I try to reply to all tells again but my speakers are funky so sometimes i dont hear the tell blip.

Posted

I find myself agreeing with Jag. There is reasons not to reply, but I've seen a million tells in my time not replied to.

This game has a great community, that's for sure. People in this game help new players. Players give their millions to a newbie. Why can't they send back a simple tell that takes no longer than 30 seconds? Maybe it's because of the reasons stated above, but the large majority of my tells are ignored. I reply to all tells that is sent to me. I know I'm not the kindest person in this game. It's just polite to reply, isn't it?

He might bug the whole team because no one is giving him a reply which causes him to move up on the list of people. The source of the problem might actually be people not replying in the first place
2. Team might be full, no response = no. Learn to accept that.
Replying a simple "no", while it might be blunt, is better than nothing. I might actually send another tell in a few minutes because how am I supposed to know if you received it (broken tells) or saw it at all?
3. If you do send a no, it's my experience that the completely stupid follow-up is imminent: "Why?". This may be followed by a 30 minute long debate on why you don't want to invite a complete stranger that's 30 levels below you. You could just ignore the person here. If they wont take no it's just as bad as people not replying.
4. If you're editing base, respeccing, making a new cossie etc there's no possible way to answer that tell of yours, or even read it.
Using the feature /hide the devs have kindly bestowed us with would clear this problem.
5. You logged on for some quality solo time, maybe even closed the chat window beacuse you want the meditative experience of the solo play.
As above, use /hide. I use it whenever I'm doing something I know will prevent me from teaming for a while, such as costume editing, base editing or a TF.

It IS polite to answer, but my point is: it's not unpolite not to answer.

I didn't ask for you to contact me, there's nothing on my search field about "contact me if you want invite" etc.

This could be solved by features in-game. One suggestion is "open" teams that you can invite yourself to if there's spots free. That would be great imho. Another one is for people to actually use the in-game options, sticking LFT on and putting stuff like "send tell for invite" on their field.

but once again, why not just start your OWN team? Or find other ways of getting teams, like using the global channels or joining an active, good SG.

Other reasons not to answer: You don't actually speak english. Loads of people play with just friends that speak their native language. For a while I only played with some swedish SG mates.

Posted

I do tend to answer people anyway, but speaking of politeness, if those people sending the tells actually bothered to check if people were marked as not wanting a team or already in one, then maybe they could save everyone a decent amount of time.

I always try to reply if I can. Having said that, if I'm afk and your tell scrolls off the tiny space allocated for it, it's out of signht out of mind I'm afraid. I don't habitually scroll up to see what I've missed.
