To be fair, often when people are in teams their names don't grey out. That's a bug, not the fault of the messenger. It's happened to me more than once.

True. The search window doesnt refresh. If you open it and look for a team for 10 minutes the people you are sending tells to might have joined a team while you were looking for one. They would still show blue in the window because it is static.

The Search Window is a load of guff. Period
Meh, it would be nice to see it made a bit more helpful, tis all.
GG, I would tell you that "I am killing you with my mind", but I couldn't find an emoticon to properly express my sentiment.

So that means they still cant read the no entry sign that means not looking for a team then?

Exactly so.
If your message is simply "Soloing" that doesn't mean you are defacto NOT looking for a team. If you are really not looking for a team, then take yourself off the grid. "Soloing" just tells me what you're doing now. It doesn't say that you do not want to team.

Erm no, soloing means "I'm playing solo". Doesn't take a massive logic leap to infer they've got "solo" in their comments because they Vant to be Alone.
If someones got "Soloing" in their comments it's highly unlikely they're just saying "I've no team at the mo but I'd be happy to join one so send me a tell anyway".
If you're going to say "Then stick your Status to the Red one" I could point out that the default is "Not looking for team" and you should only be sending Tells to those actively LTF if you're going to be such a stickler that people should set their statuses properly. It works both ways.
I agree with Carni. "Soloing" in the search comment means exactly that. If you send them a tell or invite anyway, you're just being rude and pushy.

I generally run around with Not Accepting Invites and "Prefer to Solo" in my search comment on at least a few different characters, still get people sending me tells asking to join my team/if I want to join theirs.
They usually get a reply eventually, if I saw it.

People forget to update their status regularly.
You might be soloing and I might invite you to form a team. It could be that having gotten an invite it might be just the mission you want to do. You can either join, or decline - but I'll be polite when I invite you so where's the problem?

I have to agree with Scarlet_Shocker if some one has Soloing in there comment box it doesn't necessarily mean they wont take a team invite

It doesn't exclude teaming, and a polite "would you like to join a team?" can hardly be considered rude or pushy. You only have to reply with a "no thanks" and most people will be cool with that.

Ah this ridiculous old chestnut. Because they like the game but may be called away at any moment due to various RL things? Because they like teaming with their SG and don't like PuGs for various reasons? Because they're currently shopping / getting dressed up? Because they are working their way through their own arcs at their own pace? How many reasons do you need?
Oddly I was in a nice mood last night. I even replied to the people who can't understand "Doesn't farm" in my Comments.
Of course maybe they thought that at the moment I wasn't farming but I'd jump at the chance if only someone would invite me to a farming team, huh?

Some people forget, some people don't. Why assume they're one of the forgetful ones, and then end up annoyed when they either ignore you, or tell you to bleep off? You're the one that bothered them when they clearly said they didn't want to team.
As for playing solo, sometimes people just want to play solo, or are doing RL stuff at the same time, or a billion other reasons. Just because you're playing an MMO, doesn't meant you HAVE to team. Show some courtesy, leave them alone.

Quick rant coming...Please fellow players, if someone is polite enough to take the time to send you a tell, please return the favor and reply back! even if its a quick "no".
I sent about 10 tells today to fellow players without a single response! Like many others after sending a tell for an "any space" I am honour bound to wait before sending any others to other players...but without a reply, this takes an absolute age. So please be polite, and reply!!
Many thanks

Haha i totally agree with you, pre partial tells you got 95% replies to tells, now its dropped to about 60% just because people are arrogant.
It is frustrating to send 10 tells and about 5 or 6 come back with a reply.
I think i would have to agree with Scarlet on that one.
"Soloing" can be interpreted as they're soloing at the moment. If they really wanna be left alone, go hide.
Could just as well be read as "soloing right now so i'm free for teams".
If you really wanna tell everyone you're soloing only, set the tag to not looking for team and the search note to "I don't want to team".

its not a case of wanting to play solo, if they want to play solo, fine, but if you dont want to be disturbed thats what the 'hide from searches' feature is for.
I agree it doesnt mean you have to team, but if you are showing in searches its just common sense your going to receive a message or two asking if you want to team.
Not replying to that without a genuine reason such as being afk is just plain arrogance.
Either way arguing about it here will solve nothing anyway :P

The default tag setting *is* "Not looking for team". People may not want to use "Hide from Searches" in case someone they know pops on.
I love PuGs, I rarely solo. However if I see "soloing" in someones comments unless their Status is actively set to LFT I'd assume they're up to something themselves and quite happy.

That's a two way street mate.
If you REALLY don't want to team, why not hide? Then I won't see you, I won't invite you (with or without a tell) and everyone's happy. If you've got an, at best, ambiguous message then it's not surprising if you get the odd invite.
Sure if it's just a blind, I can understand it being problematic, but equally you and I both know that if you only want to team with specific people or your SG, it's simple enough to let those people know you're in game without the wider world knowing.
If you have a message saying "I don't want to team with anyone EVER" then chances are I won't invite you. But this is fundamentally a team game, and so if you're on the grid, and you show up in the search, without a categorical refusal to team, I might just invite you. If you really don't want to be invited to a team, I'd suggest the onus is on you to take the steps to prevent that.

The OPs issue would be nicely solved if the devs would add a "Teams looking for members" search box (or even just showed Team Leaders in the Search box). BaBs mentioned it ages ago as a cool feature he'd like to see in CoH and it was never heard of again since.

I agree that'd help a lot, but it would need something more - not just team leaders.

The Team Leaders would solve the OPs issue somewhat. At least one wouldn't be sending 5 tells to different members of the same team (which is the main reason I don't do it) and probably be easier to implement.
I'd love to see a WAR implementation with an Open Teams tab (obviously without the "Distance Away" info it shows since that doesn't really apply / matter in CoH)
Hopefully they've got some QoL things like this in I14 (I live in hope).

Assuming I or they actually remember to set to /hide, or they might have a perfectly valid reason for not wanting to hide. Personally, I wouldn't ever invite someone, no matter their search comments said, unless they were actually flagged as looking for team.
Take me for example... Sometimes I'll just pop on for a quick mission, I forget to set my hide status all the time, I leave my search status on the default "Not looking", and my search comment says "No blinds". I might just be on for 5 minutes, or I might be missioning whilst also cooking or something else, so am randomly AFK, I might be in the AH, or I might even be roleplaying with some friends. In either case, I'm doing my thing and don't want random invites popping up all the time, so why do people have to send them?
The answer is, of course, quite simple. Generally, people aren't interested in what other people want to do, they want to do what THEY want to do, and they'll bug other people no matter what until they find someone else that'll do it with them. It doesn't matter what you put in your search comment, or what your teaming status is, people WILL ignore it (long proven), and will send you blinds, or tells, unless you're hidden.
For what it's worth, if I see a tell, I *will* reply to it politely 99.9% of the time. But if I don't see it, don't be getting stroppy if you don't get a reply. After all, I didn't ask you to bother me, did I?
@FloatingFatMan

See, this is the wonderful thing about text - it doesn't portray emotion too well. It also hides frustration and annoyance easily. If you are annoyed at a /tell asking you to join a team, all you have to do is reply with, "No thanks, I'm soloing" and add a smiley at the end. Simple.
Of course, getting six or seven /tells in less than 10 minutes can be irritating, but it doesn't take a second to send a stock reply. You can rant about your annoyances later.
