No one goes to the cinema in Paragon City. Why would they? The films haven't changed in 4 or 5 years!

[/ QUOTE ]
Well that, or its because it's now runned by Skulls & Trolls

It looks good, I have to say, but... 5 at once? A bit much, perhaps?

The wisdom of Shadowe: Ghostraptor: The Shadowe is wise ...; FFM: Shadowe is no longer wise. ; Techbot_Alpha: Also, what Shadowe said. It seems he is still somewhat wise ; Bull Throttle: Shadowe was unwise in this instance...; Rock_Powerfist: in this instance Shadowe is wise.; Techbot_Alpha: Shadowe is very wise *nods*; Zortel: *Quotable line about Shadowe being wise goes here.*

I dont actually mind in game ads. Some real ads make the environment, if not more realistic, at least more convincing. Besides, what hurt do ads do? Companies pay NCsoft to put the ads in the game and NC just gets more money

So much for actually having to opt in to the ads. I haven't opted in and was greated by Vin Deisel's mug everywhere. Oversight or banking on the fact that more people wouldnt' be bothered turning them off than turning them on?

Probably because they said you could opt out rather than opt in.

[ QUOTE ]
I want to make it very clear that we are not “forcing” in-game ads upon our players. Thus, the word “optional” is of key importance. None of our players have to change their game experience in any way if that’s what they prefer. All that you need to do is opt-out via the Options menu in the game.

They previously said...

[ QUOTE ]
Following on from today's press release announcing that Optional In-Game Advertising will be introduced to City of Heroes, we have further details of the reasons behind this new feature and what you, as a player, can expect to be seeing should you opt-in to the service. Brian Clayton, NCsoft NorCal General Manager, explains that all advertising will go through an approval process aimed at ensuring all ads are contextually relevant and appropriate, while also pointing out the opportunities available to use the system in support of the community. Edit - the cynic in me says that somebody decided that they wouldn't be able to bank on high enough 'viewing' figures by launching it as opt-in. It is a lot more hassle to convince the average player to opt in after all, most players wouldn't even be aware it was coming and may not even notice the new option at all.

I've just re-read the article published at the same time and that says opt-out. Looks like it was confused at the time as to which it would be. Never mind, nothing to see here

Only to be expected really... after all you are a blind Minotaur.

i'm probably gonna opt out of the ads
as they are kinda useles to me, seeing that i'm not from the UK ...

I would opt out simply because they are all the same and it looks stupid.

Why on earth didn't they mix some of the old fake ads in there?

The old CoX fake ads *are* still be used. If you're seeing an excessive number of the Babylon AD ads, please provide feedback on your experience with the new ads (eg zone and locations within zones where you feel the number of ads is excessive) and we'll pass that information along to NCNC and our advertising partner.

Posted

To me I don't feel that they are excessive, just as it seems to be the only one ,or certainly the only one I have seen, I think you tend to get tired of seeing the same one. Probably wouldn't be as bad if there were a couple more but as I'm mainly playing the game I suppose it doesn't matter so much. Not certain at this point whether the plan is to have several adverts on display simultaneously - not read up on all the info yet - I shall have to see if there's any thorough details on what's been mentioned about them.

IIRC we were told the money from the ADs would be used to improve the game, it's worth remembering this before opting out (assuming I've remembered corrcetly )

If it's having no effect on your game play you might as well have it turned on in the hope that the money does go to improving the game.

Well, Atlas Park station seems to have rather a lot, I think I counted four.

Frankly, though, it doesn't bother me. It's kind of nice in an odd way. It's something a bit dynamic in an otherwise static environment.

I feel much the same way. Actually the only place I have seen them so far is in Atlas. Whereabouts are they red-side?

Will you still think it's dynamic when they're still advertising the same movie in 12 months time?

If no one pays for a replacement ad, or when the time runs out for the current ad, they should make the old one get all worn and tatty over time.

Just noticed they're on all the bus stops too!

Defiant 50's
Many and varied!

Totally agree about the variety thing. TBH I'm surprised NCSoft aren't advertising some of their other games with this system.

A better title for this thread would be "ingame ads hit the UK" since it seems people outside Britain can't see them, even if they play on the English servers.

I agree

EU Global: @Night Druid
Little Squeak: Little Squeak talked to Me and Me said that Me is Me when Me thinks of me and Me is Me's name
Toxic Glow: I was tryin' ta teach her not ta refer ta herself in the third person, an it backfired

They're still the first ads for Europe .

Ads for Germany and France will arrive over time as well. The system is setup so that we only distribute ads to those who they are relevant for - so yes, in many cases if you live outside one of the core territories you may not see the ads.
