VEATs powers boring?

Well, maybe you might want to watch it again. Yes, the psi powers are already available to players, but:
- The claw attack set and the Arachnos rifle set are nothing like the normal claw and AR sets. If you had ever played a claws scrapper/stalker or an AR blaster/corruptor you just might have noticed the differences.
- There is nothing like the crab spider backpack attacks available to players.
- Apart from some powers from Black Scorpion's patron power pool I have never had access to a blasty mace thingy.
To me this looks like we get a whole lot of new toys to play with.
If it has eyes, you can blind it, if it has blood, you can make it bleed, if it has a mouth, you can make it scream.
I don't really know what the OP was expecting.
There are only a few types of power in the game, being as there are only so many stats that can be affected by those powers.
Four years in, to any game, seeing something that does anything genuinely new would suprise the socks off of me.
Myself, I would have prefered more debuffs instead of the usual attack/buff combinations (I also think stalkers could have benefited from mixing a bunch of single target debuffs in with their shields; this only goes to show im a big fan of debuffs ) but then they'd probably just be a varition on corruptors/defenders and really not anything new.
As for the video. Before seeing it, I was considering not playing until i13 as i12 has been that uninteresting to me.
After seeing it, I'm ready to, at least, give the VEAT's a tryout before consigning them forever to the twilight zone of 'dull things that don't enthuse me about i12'.
So I guess the video did its job.

I have to agree with both sides here.
On one hand I love the opportunity to actually play an arachnos minion, that we're finally getting VEATs, hoping for some great story arcs (that we know nothing at all about and they're the MOST important imho).
We also know very little about the effects of the powers, and much may change since it's not even on test server yet. Whining now seems a bit premature.
On the other hand there is one very valid point: When the hero epic ATs came, well, let's face it: Kheldians are DIFFERENT! VERY different from any other AT. Yes even twith the kheldians a lot is reused (anims etc) but everything is still slightly different, not just the fab sounds.
Looking at what we know of villain epics, that seems to become a disappointment. Costumes are already there, anims, powers. It looks like, ONCE AGAIN, villain side isn't regarded as a real, import part of the game. Looking at the player base I understand that, but they could've gone the other way:
"Hey, there's too few villains, how can we boost the interest for the villain side?".
Now, I'm biased since I rarely play hero-side, but that very valid point sends me into a d00000m spiral!

I see it completely the other way. If the vill veat had been blood of the back stream or avian or whatever the rumours were, I'd be far less excited about getting to play them. I mean a group which didn't exist but now does rarely fit in the game lore well, I felt that the kheldians were very much tacked-on, "oh we're aliens from outer space come to save the world from our enemies from outer space", that's nice, except you never face them except when you have a HEAT in your team, they feel like outsiders, sperate from the rest of the game, its villain and hero groups, and it's ATs. An Arachnos VEAT however... has a place in 'society', it's a member of the group who has controlled the Rogue Isles since it has become accessable to us real-world folk. We know them, we often fight for them, and even more often fight against them. Now we get to see it from the other side. I think that is the exciting part. Something you know will be awesome is a lot more exciting than something shrouded in enigma.

I agree with the above post by Rooks. Being able to play something that I've been on the receiving end and thought looked fun for the past couple of years it more exciting to me than the devs trying to squash something else into the game and try to tell me its Epic.
To me playing a Nightwiddow is epic, playing another random AT made to fit isn't

Well, what if the new AT was another type of Arachnos trooper, just one we'd not seen before?
Such a development would be easy to fit into the storyline, what with the amount of research (in all areas) that Recluse patronises.
I'd think it was a cheap way of working in a new AT (unless suddenly new arachnos content sprung up an issue before hand......... nope, only rikti, ah well)

That would suck from both sides. Those who want to play as "the guys with the cool uniforms who we have been fighting for years" would be disapointed, as would the people who don't want to have anything to do with arachnos.

I have waited a Very Long time to be able to play as a proper Arachnos Soldier and issue 12 is finally the ticket i've been waiting for.

You're contradicting yourself here.
Anyway, I've been following both the EU and US forum on this and the general idea is that...yes, these VEATs are what people wanted. They're part of an established NPC faction, they're doing new things with the archetypes (power specialisation and unlockable costume parts) and they seem as if they're going to be fairly original hybrid based classes.
I'd be interested in seeing what YOUR idea of a new class is, beyond "something new".

To the OP: Recolored psychic powers? Um... why? So its New(tm)? I mean seriously, it's sad that you've played that many psychic powered chars already and might find more of it a bit dull. There's an easy solution to that: play a crab spider. All new looks there, I'm sure you've never shot red laser beams from the spider legs on your back before.
The thought of even recoloring the psychic beams of the widows actually kind of offends me. It's such a token effort, because I can't imagine a new color slapped onto them would make you all excited, and if it does then congratulations; you're far more easily amused than I am. Besides that, if all the psychic powers in the game have a base in the same things, then why would widows suddenly have "different psychic abilities!"?
It, IMHO, would not just be a lame token effort, but also against game lore, as if you have psychic powers, they look a certain way, like psychic powers.
I can't empathise with your complaints at all, they seem like huge non issues to me.

First of all even if we dont have the same opinion, your post is nice and objective, thx for that, thats pretty rare.
As for all powers of the same kind like psychic having same colour....
That might be true for psychic atm but only cause they havent changed it yet.
Illusion troller sets got 2 different colours, the player one is white the npc one is black.
Elec hero side is blue, villain side its red.
Energy ranged hero side is blue, villain side too but doms attacks are red(why?)
Sonic resonance was white from the start and changed after years to a bright orange, while sonic attacks are still white, wheres the sense in that ?
So there ARE powers of the same type with different colours depending on AT, i cant see why psi cant have different colours, since psi isnt linked to a real life colour like fire.
Btw in comic books psi powers got many different colours, not just pink.
Many people are screaming for power customisation for ages now, what for if certain powers should all look the same?
If you could change the power colours i bet there wont be many ppl left using the original ones.
Power customisation isnt ingame yet, cause as the devs have posted several time: "Its too hard to implement", so not cause every power should have a fixed colour
And green or blue or purple fire will look much more stupid than black or purple psi blasts.
Why do you want a buttcape ? Cause the char plays different with it or plays better ?
No cause of the looks, and its something new, doesnt affect gamplay, its just for fun makes your char different.
Even if its just a minor ad to your char outfit it ups your funfactor.
