I'd find this awesome, personally. But I've always been the biggest 5th fan ever. >_>

Why do you want a buttcape ? Cause the char plays different with it or plays better ?
No cause of the looks, and its something new, doesnt affect gamplay, its just for fun makes your char different.
What else are psi powers in a new colour ?
[/ QUOTE ]
Cause it's not a widow without it (unless you count blood widows) and some of us were concerned that there might be limitations that would prevent us from getting the full outfit. Not really comparable, if you ask me.
As for the other powersets having different colors, two things stand out in my mind:
1. Those sets are all things you can see with your eyes, makes sense to me the effects can be differently colored.
2. Psychic is not a visual, and the visuals are just there to show that there's mind-to-mind stuff going on, IMHO. And since psychic battles are psychic battles, I figure that's why they always have the same colour.
Of course, that's just me being pedantic, I guess. -
[ QUOTE ]
Tbh i don't care if the VEATS have 32 versions of brawl just as long as i get a butt cape on my Nightwidow
[/ QUOTE ]
Totally with you on this one.
To the OP: Recolored psychic powers? Um... why? So its New(tm)? I mean seriously, it's sad that you've played that many psychic powered chars already and might find more of it a bit dull. There's an easy solution to that: play a crab spider. All new looks there, I'm sure you've never shot red laser beams from the spider legs on your back before.
The thought of even recoloring the psychic beams of the widows actually kind of offends me. It's such a token effort, because I can't imagine a new color slapped onto them would make you all excited, and if it does then congratulations; you're far more easily amused than I am. Besides that, if all the psychic powers in the game have a base in the same things, then why would widows suddenly have "different psychic abilities!"?
It, IMHO, would not just be a lame token effort, but also against game lore, as if you have psychic powers, they look a certain way, like psychic powers.
I can't empathise with your complaints at all, they seem like huge non issues to me. -
So after swearing off dominators after being woefully disappointed with them after CoV launch, I'm thinking about creating a new one.
However, the whole melee aspect of the assault sets never sat well with me. I don't particularly want to go into melee, ever, and when I did so on my old dom in teams it often ended in tears.
So I'm wondering, what dominator is best for ranged damage? Any advice, or should I just roll a /dark corruptor for blasting and controlling? -
I can't pick between Night Widow and Crab Spider... Maybe Bane spider? D8
Although do the spider paths lose access to the machine gun? That would be much sadface. -
I'm not a mastermind so you might want to take my opinion with a grain of salt.
I have however duoed extensively with first mercs and now robots. From my perspective as the brute teaming with the MM, the difference isn't that big.
The bots do seem to do a bit more damage, but they also have really freaking annoying knockbacks that trigger all the damn time, while the mercs had more useful status effects that don't ruin my attack chain and thus my combos.
Personally I'd rather team with mercs than bots because:
1. Mercs don't have annoying knockback
2. Mercs have more valuable mezzes
3. The damage difference doesn't seem that insurmountably high
This is my view as an outsider, but unless you don't intend to ever team, I think it's worth taking on board. -
Well the logic for slotting Block of Ice as an attack was... well, I needed an attack!
When I played my fire/kin I hardly ever had the powers or time for proper control coupled with the fact that containment is harder to set with a hold than an immob, I slotted Chilblain to make it easier to get containment. Don't think it would work quite so well the other way around.
Glad someone approves of it though! -
I can't comment on the others but I know WP is really rather solid if you tack on weave. I took stamina on top of quick recovery and basically never have endurance problems against anything but malta sappers.
Now keep in mind that I stacked stamina because my WP brute runs 8 toggles, 10 if you count combat jumping and sprint. So that's a lot of endurance recovery right there. -
If you're soloing and trust your survivability against a single mob and need a quick AFK but don't want to lose your fury a neat trick is to make sure you have brawl set to automatic, leave one mob, and just autohit him while you go afk for a minute or two. Your fury bar should be pretty full when you come back.
-
Hi. My name is Augury, and I like abusing containment to make mini-scrapper/tanks out of controllers. I got a fire/kin to level 36 as proof of concept, but the lack of mez resist, and reliance on fire imps and fulcrum shift bothered me a lot.
So I'm gonna start over, this time trying an Ice/Sonic. Build below! The IOs are probably unreasonable unless I have tons of inf to get them all, so I guess I'll have to level my fire/kin to 50 to scavenge inf for them. Still, it'll be a nice little project:
EDIT: Before anyone asks, I just like jump kick, okay!? D:<

As I creep up in levels to the point where I have planned taking Strength of Will, I'm getting more and more dubious about whether it's a good pinnacle.
Hell, that's too kind, I'm getting dubious whether or not to just ditch it for something else, really.
<ul type="square">[*]Yes, it makes you practically unmezzable, but I've never actually had Indomitable Will fail me yet.[*]Sure it gives you *booming voice* MOAR RECOVERY but Quick Recovery and Stamina isn't already enough?[*]Slotted it gives you S/L resist, and far, far less resist to everything else.[*]Now, assuming you're taking weave to wrench up your defenses (I certainly am) you're already getting tough. Do I really need more S/L resist?[*]On the other hand, the 15 or so percent of resist to everything else certainly won't save me when I really really need it. Think enemies like, say, Positron Automaton which hits you with energy that decreases your defense. 20% instead of 6% resist isn't gonna save me from him.[*]Can't even slot it for recharge like everyone else can. Or use hasten on it. Or anything.[/list]Is this just the most disappointing damage mitigation ultimate ever, or am I seriously missing something here? -
OOC: Um, planning on getting this character involved in some cross faction RP since she's not at all stereotypically evil. Wrote a little story to start it off. This is my first time I'm really dedicated to working a character out and getting her involved in RP. I hope the attempt well be well received. D:
Anyway, in case anyone wants to be involved with this, my character will be high enough level soon to enter the Rikti warzone. She's hoping - since Portal Corp has disappointed with their relatively primitive technology - that the Rikti will have some way for her to get back to her own dimension.
If anyone's interested, you can read more about the character at the Handbook of the Union Universe.

"Curse you, Vogel!"
That had been the last thing that the affluent arms dealer named Esteban Marques had said. She had been morbidly amused, usually when she was done with her assault her enemies didn't have the capacity for speech anymore. Esteban had been conveniently positioned near a ledge on a tall building though, so all it took was a small push...
"Start loading the goods onto the trucks.", the tall figure clad in powered armor known as Reichsfaust Vogel said with a german accent, the mask giving a strange metallic quality to her voice.
As her personel started plundering the stocks of arms, she couldn't help but wonder whether she was turning into the same type of pond scum by plying their trade and taking over their stocks. After all, that's why she'd become an arms dealer; she had little remorse about killing these people, and the money was good, money she needed to get back home.
It had been nearly a year since she'd been stranded in this reality, after a failed attempt to usurp the Rogue Isles, dethrone Recluse, destroy Arachnos, and using the Etoile Isles as a staging ground for spreading enlightenment to new realities.
She'd been the only one to get out alive, unable to return to her home, her own world. She had been hunted by Arachnos, but managed to evade them. Then, as she grew in power, there were the "heroes". They came and called her evil, though she did not understand why. They never tried to talk, they simply tried to take her down.
So she had reacted in kind. The only ones who weren't out to get her now were underlings, like the ones scurrying around to grab the stocks of some other unfortunate, now dead, arms dealer. Scum trying to make a quick buck from her efforts, but at least they weren't trying to imprison her. Or worse.
A nearby TV set with bad reception crackles out some news about Rikti assaulting Cap Au Diable. Glowing eyes fix on it, scrutinizing the enemy she had spent all this time getting ready to face.
Soon, she thinks to herself, I'll have the money to buy clearance for the warzone, then maybe I'll find what I seek.
Maybe with their advanced technology I can find my way home. -
Yeah, I'm thinking of switching 10k Cuts and Blinding Feint, mostly because a friend of mine thinks the animation is awesome and wants me to have it at 32.
After 41 everything is gravy, really, so I just picked something.
With debt being much lower I'm noticing if I can get back up and into the fight, or sacrifice myself to keep everyone else alive, I'm more inclined to do so, so yeah I'm tempted to take your advice and take Hasten and Resurgence. -

I have a good one like that too! >8D -
Not sure why people don't like the DB animations, I personally love them. I've also noticed that while it's not as smashy as my super strength brute, it's easier to get the fury going with DB.
I did have some trouble with not feeling much like a brute but then I got vengeful slice and all is well since I can brutally knock opponents off their feet now. >_> -
I played this build basically up to level 26 so far, the only difference is that I took Nimble Slash instead of Ablating Strike at level 2. Made this up for a respec, even though I'm only changing one power in my planned build it pans out much lovelier.
Anyway, comments/suggestions/otherwise, please? Even if it's good, feel free to tell me so. I'm not that confident. >_>
Also in case anyone wonders, the sets I have slotted is stuff I've already obtained. (+3% def all, +25% regen, and chance of -20% res on Ablating Strike) The extra slots in Stamina and Quick Recovery are for future sets.

When you get down to it any idea you could come up with has the chance to offend others if done carelessly, at least with the whole Nazi idea your going to have to work at it to not become an [censored] or a 'Ello 'Ello level parody.
[/ QUOTE ]
Oh, hey, Nazi isn't censored? Well that's annoying - my first post seems rather bumbling and tippy-toe now.
But yes, this is basically why I wanted to give the idea a go. Nazis have always been something of a fascination for me - the rise to power, the uniforms, the conduct, the rumours about super soldiers, the myths about their occult experiments, etc. In some ways they're wonderfully bizarre and endlessly interesting, but there's still that undercurrent of the very real, very obvious atrocities that were commited by the group in later years.
I understand playing one in a computer game is hardly up there with writing a historic novel, but all the same there's a lot of potential. Just a case of - as you said - steering clear of Mein Fuhrer saying 'Ello 'Ello. -
[ QUOTE ]
Oh, and...
AAAAAAAAAAAAAA! It's Syracuse! RUUN RUN for your sanity!
Confincing enough, or over the top?
[/ QUOTE ]
Yeeeeeeeeeeessssssss, feel the feeeeeear inside you. :>
Anyway, thanks for the responses guys. Must admit I'm rather surprised by the general acceptance of it - seen similar questions asked on other forums, and the subject never really ended too well. Still, I'm going to mull over what's been mentioned and craft my character accordingly; Reichsman and so on completely skipped me by, which could potentially add another edge.
BUT. We shall see eventually. For now, I has research to do. -
Alrightey, first of this isn't Augury posting. It's Syracuse. Syracuse. If my astonishing reputation and concrete aura of fear is unknown to you, then simply nod blankly and replace Augury's name with my own. Then possibly scream in fear to appease me ego.
With that out of the way...
Myself and Augury have been planning a couple of character concepts for a duo when Issue 11 hits, but I'm likely to be the one actively roleplaying (whereas she PvEs about a billion times longer than me, yet still keeps stealing my Influence and recipes all the same). BUT THAT'S IRRELEVANT. My point is both characters revolve around an alternate timeline where the Allies lost the Second World War, allowing the You-Know-Who party to secure victory and move onto a world run under their banner.
Here's where it gets interesting. How close do you think it's acceptable for a player to get to playing such a concept without being grossly offensive or just outright junky in execution? The general style, that atmosphere around them...it's got the hallmarks of villainy before you've even started! We'd just rather not come off as too insensitive, but at the same time we'd prefer not to end up making things too silly or limp.
So. How far do you think someone should go before saying "oop, not roleplaying much more than that"? Or do you think such ideas should be steered clear of altogether? Obviously, preaching or glorifying what these people did on an OOC level is straight out. No matter how well accepted the characters are, we know where the OOC/IC boundary is for THAT rhetoric. -
Hmmm. Guess I was misinformed, I was told slotting the same of a set in a power again just made a new set. But it makes sense it doesn't. >_>
Oh well, there goes that idea. -

Note: You can only slot one in each defensive power. Also: You can only stack the bonus 5 times.

Why can you only slot one Gift of the Ancients in each defensive power? O_o
And I have 3 slotted swift, but that hardly makes the movement managable. So I'm hoping IOs will be able to help. -
I'm sure I'm not the only one thinking about this. Or at least, I hope I'm not. There's a lot of material for Stone Armor set users to offset the big hit to speed that vexes... well, most of us, and I did a bit of research and came up with these options:
- Regenerative Tissue, two of a set, +4% runspeed set bonus
- Aegis, two of a set, +5% runspeed set bonus
- Gift of the Ancients: Runspeed, +7.5% global bonus
Using Regenerative Tissue sets in Rooted and Earth's Embrace can give you an 8% set bonus. This will always be on, which is good since you won't be running both constantly. But kind of low.
Using Aegis you can get +10% by putting two into Granite Armor and Stone Skin. Again set bonus, so it'll always be on, although for these powers it doesn't matter so much. Still kind of low.
If you have them, Tough and Health can be slotted for an additional Aegis set and Regenerative Tissue set for another +9% set bonus.
Earth's Embrace can be slotted for Aegis too, although I doubt anyone would really want to slot it for extra resistance just for another 5% runspeed set bonus.
The bigger problem is that other than Stone Skin and Granite, Regenerative Tissue has only (as far as I know) one IO that directly enhances healing fully, and it's unique. So slotting for these rather minimal gains might not be good since you're effectively losing healing in the process.
So, what I intend to see if I can do is take maneuvers (for early levels, later switch it out for weave) and try to see how many Gift of the Ancients I need to make the runspeed of Rooted or Granite bearable.
Assuming I six slot it that's a +45% runspeed increase, which is actually pretty good. It's global though so you'll need to be running this power to get the bonus, but that's not much of a problem for me. I wonder if it'll be enough to offset the movement penalty though.
Also, I'm not sure if Gift of the Ancients: Runspeed only enhances runspeed. If it enhances both defense and then adds runspeed globally, then it's even better. But I'm basically not up enough on inventions to know how it works exactly without getting my hands on one.
If it does enhance defense in a suitable manner, it might be worth slotting 3 into granite. But that might not be enough (or desirable, you might want different IOs in your staple power) and still leaves the problem for those of us who haven't reached that level yet and need to run Rooted for mez protection, so my experiment would still be sound.
Thoughts or information, anyone? -
This post has been a long time coming. I've never really had anywhere to ask though, so I'm asking here.
I often wonder if through taken the wrong approach to art I've hampered my own ability to do it, in the end. I've never been one to draw for life except for school for a few years, but yet I always hear this is how you do it. I suppose I find life too boring a subject, and just copying what I see doesn't let me express it, so I have a distaste of it.
I'm actually not sure how I got quite as good at drawing as I am. (although, there's still oodles of room for improvement) I remember when I was very young I drew a lot for a while. I had a basic grasp of the human form that most other children didn't have.
For instance, a human I'd draw as an oval, with a trunk that goes straight down, and extends into shoulders and arms with elbows and then hands. As well as pelvis and legs. Sure it was very crude and I was just a little kid, but I remember this drawing exercise where we had to draw some humanoids in... rain? shower? can't remember, but I remember all the other kids drawing the torso as a bigger oval under the head, and having the arms and legs extend like sticks from that.
I also remember getting complemented on my insight by my teacher.
I didn't get back into drawing til much later, when I got into webcomics, about halfway through my teens. I'd mostly stopped drawing by then. One day I decided I was going to learn how to draw, and sat down, and did.
But I learned from anime and manga and online tutorials, the one thing people tell you not to! Over the years I drew a lot and slowly got better until I got to a point where I had enough quality in my work that I felt good about it. Then I got artist blocked... for three years.
Before then I had been always borrowing bits and pieces of styles of others I liked as I went along, making the look and feel of my art horribly inconsistant. The block didn't go away until I forced it too, and I seem to have developed my own style in the year or two that came after it.
But I have never been one to sit in a mall with a sketchpad and draw things. I picture what I want to draw in my mind and put it on paper. (using reference material mostly for objects and the like I dunno how to draw) Or rather, on photoshop, since all my work is done on tablet since there is no room for a scanner here and I see no point in creating art unless I share.
Anyhow, long story there, hah. Problem comes in that now my progress has become really slow, even though my art style and quality are far more consistant. And I often find myself wondering if I've taught myself the wrong things in getting where I am the way I did.
Some day I'm going to have to work through Loomis figure drawing book and then work on detailed anatomy, I suppose.
Anyhow, have I been doing it wrong? Or is it okay, and just the way I work best? Often wondered, and I never really figure it out. I'm pretty sure if I told anyone who went to artschool this they'd have a coronary. -
Thanks for the nice comments everyone.
It's always surprising when a piece that I don't consider some of my best work ever is so well received. I suppose being too critical of what you create can slant your view.
Sorry about going so long without posting here. Have been in a pretty bad mood and haven't felt up to posting much. -
OMG IN COLORZ
That's Utaku Mayumi, as the gallery entry says.Reason I'm posting it here - beside getting feedback - is that considering turning her into a CoH character, as well.
Since I never get on with blasters at all but I like this character I figured I'd make her an archer in CoH and see if that could make me stick with the AT longer than level 3. Shame there's no swordy secondary. Or is there? And I'd probably have to drop the ponytail and go with wedge hair.
If anyone has recommendations as far as recreating her or comments on the pic, I'd like to hear.
