Rooted/Granite and Inventions
I find the lack of any vertical mobility just as much a problem as speed, which means that you still need to teleport to move up a tiny ledge without breaking mez resist.
I'm sure a bit of a boost from IOs will be nice, but not great because runspeed isn't everything. Rooted is -90% runspeed, GA is -70%. Swift is +35% base.
Just clarifying some stuff, don't take it personally if you already knew it.

Assuming I six slot it that's a +45% runspeed increase

Note: You can only slot one in each defensive power. Also: You can only stack the bonus 5 times.
Furthermore, I can't find my notes on it, but a 7.5% increase is slightly over 1 mph. You'll get a better rate of return 3 slotting Swift, if you haven't done so already.

Also, I'm not sure if Gift of the Ancients: Runspeed only enhances runspeed. If it enhances both defense and then adds runspeed globally, then it's even better.

This is because it's in a defence set, right? No, it only enhances runspeed.

Why can you only slot one Gift of the Ancients in each defensive power? O_o
And I have 3 slotted swift, but that hardly makes the movement managable. So I'm hoping IOs will be able to help.

You can only slot one of each set in a power once. I assumed you were talking about lotting Gift of the Ancients:Runspeed six times. If I misread you, sorry. You can, of course, slot different IOs from Gift of the Ancient into the same power. Just not the same one over and over again.
If I didn't, well, that's just how inventions works.

Hmmm. Guess I was misinformed, I was told slotting the same of a set in a power again just made a new set. But it makes sense it doesn't. >_>
Oh well, there goes that idea.
I'm sure I'm not the only one thinking about this. Or at least, I hope I'm not. There's a lot of material for Stone Armor set users to offset the big hit to speed that vexes... well, most of us, and I did a bit of research and came up with these options:
- Regenerative Tissue, two of a set, +4% runspeed set bonus
- Aegis, two of a set, +5% runspeed set bonus
- Gift of the Ancients: Runspeed, +7.5% global bonus
Using Regenerative Tissue sets in Rooted and Earth's Embrace can give you an 8% set bonus. This will always be on, which is good since you won't be running both constantly. But kind of low.
Using Aegis you can get +10% by putting two into Granite Armor and Stone Skin. Again set bonus, so it'll always be on, although for these powers it doesn't matter so much. Still kind of low.
If you have them, Tough and Health can be slotted for an additional Aegis set and Regenerative Tissue set for another +9% set bonus.
Earth's Embrace can be slotted for Aegis too, although I doubt anyone would really want to slot it for extra resistance just for another 5% runspeed set bonus.
The bigger problem is that other than Stone Skin and Granite, Regenerative Tissue has only (as far as I know) one IO that directly enhances healing fully, and it's unique. So slotting for these rather minimal gains might not be good since you're effectively losing healing in the process.
So, what I intend to see if I can do is take maneuvers (for early levels, later switch it out for weave) and try to see how many Gift of the Ancients I need to make the runspeed of Rooted or Granite bearable.
Assuming I six slot it that's a +45% runspeed increase, which is actually pretty good. It's global though so you'll need to be running this power to get the bonus, but that's not much of a problem for me. I wonder if it'll be enough to offset the movement penalty though.
Also, I'm not sure if Gift of the Ancients: Runspeed only enhances runspeed. If it enhances both defense and then adds runspeed globally, then it's even better. But I'm basically not up enough on inventions to know how it works exactly without getting my hands on one.
If it does enhance defense in a suitable manner, it might be worth slotting 3 into granite. But that might not be enough (or desirable, you might want different IOs in your staple power) and still leaves the problem for those of us who haven't reached that level yet and need to run Rooted for mez protection, so my experiment would still be sound.
Thoughts or information, anyone?
