Villain makes good!

Doctor Edward Johnson formerly known as the villainous Doctor Mechano was today given a Prestigous award by Statesman himself. The Doctor has been under constant and close scrutiny while trying to redeem himself here in Paragon, a misdemeour at the Galaxy Girl statue and the following community service did put some bad light on his recent attempts.

However, today saw a new light on the hopes of Doctor Johnson becoming a fully reformed member of society. Given the 'Hero of the City' award, an award given to those heroes who shine above and beyond the call of duty, has given everyone hope for the future.

Doctor Johnson had this to say;

"I'd like to thank those I've had supporting me through my trials and tribulations, Ms Zorielle Rolando for taking me into her group, the Unity Vigil and all those who reside or help in Unity Tower...even those chidding comments of BODICIA were of some help," here the doctor pauses for a chuckle, "I'd also like to thank Saint Michael and of course my betters at the Catholic church."

Our reporter questions Doctor Johnson on how being given this award made him feel.

"Having been given this award shows that even villains can have a chance at reformation, that, like myself and fellow reformees Ryan Andrews and Ben Campbel, you truly can turn things around and do some good in the world, no matter what your powers are or even if you have no powers at all. Start small like I had to and then work your way up to the big things in life. I've learnt a lot on this journey that led to me getting this award and I still feel there will be plenty to come to learn in the days, months and years after recieving it..."

Well there we have it folks, a man who once tried to push highly addictive drugs onto our streets has made a complete turn around with his life, a shinning example to all those out there that with effort, anyone can truly become a hero.

Late Night Horrorshow!

Last night saw our television sets once again hi-jacked by the mysterious figure calling himself Jargon , who this time made his intentions all too clear. Channels Four and Six, as well as the music channel True all had their regular broadcasts interrupted at ten o'clock yesterday (Friday) evening.

Once again Jargon told us not to adjust his sets, but this time he was not on the screen simply to talk. He had a captive with him, a middle aged man whom Jargon claimed was a child molestor. The feed was interrupted by the image of a tank full of beetles crawling all over one another as the sound of elevator music played.

When the feed of Jargon resumed, his captive was slumped on the ground and bleeding profusely from his neck, with a hunting knife plunged into his back. Jargon stated, "The warning shot has been fired. There will not be another."

Police are currently investigating, and refused to give comment. Once again, the television channels involved denied any association with Jargon.

[/b]PRICE INCREASE FOR SUPERDAINE[/b]

We here at the Rogue Isles Post have a exclusive story. The price of Superdaine has increased to cut down the number of Trolls, the Rogue Isles Council says. But this is not the case from Atta. He has claimed to us that increasing the price of Superdaine would only make people think 'wow, expensive stuff must be cool' and everyone will be on a buying spree of it. The Rogue Isles Post can only say the prices will increase highly by June 10th 2008. We cannot state any more information on this topic, since the Rogue Isles Council have been very tight about it. More information nearer the time.

Arachnos strike teams are said to be gearing up for action after the latest wave of predictions from Fortunatas.
Although Arachnos representatives are keeping fairly tight lipped about details of the predictions, they have stated that it concerns meta-human individuals of a greater power than is normally encountered by Arachnos, and therefore should be subverted to their cause lest they become a threat to them and the way of life of all citizens of the Etoile isles.

This reporter for one, has complete confidence in them eliminating this threat, and wishes luck to our troops in the field on completing their goal.

The doorman was knocked unconcious and is currently in a stable condition recovering in hospital, as police wait to question him. This follows on from the attack on the Lakeside Cafe in Atlas Park on Monday, where fellow Guardian of Destiny Nene MacAllister works. Other residents claim to have heard and saw nothing of the attack, and have described the vandalism to be vile and disgusting.

DATA Agent Reported Missing

The police have asked all heroes to be alert for a DATA operative who went missing after leaving work last night. The man's wife filed a missing persons report when she discovered this morning that he had not returned home. Unconfirmed reports indicate that the agent may have taken a datachip out of the DATA facility, containing information on a number of the cities heroes. The police have confirmed that they are considering the possibility that the agent has defected to Arachnos.

Missing DATA Agent Found Dead

A DATA operative who went missing two days ago has turned up dead. Police discovered the body during a routine search of an abandoned warehouse. Initial reports indicate that the man was stabbed, and then the body burnt to try and dispose of the evidence. One police officer, who has requested to remain nameless, stated that the crime was unusual, as the man was stabbed twice with two different weapons, and the fire left no marks on anything else in the warehouse. Meanwhile, DATA has refused to comment on rumours that the operative had been transporting a datachip containing information on a number of the cities heroes.

Afterlight Appeals

On Tuesday afternoon, the renowned heroine Afterlight and her partner Onders thwarted Nemesis Army troops as they attempted to ransack one of the abandoned underground bases in the Faultline area. In their final sweep of the base they discovered an inactive human construct, more specifically, a gynoid. Uncertain as to whether it was Nemesis Army design or not, they handed the gynoid over to DATA personnell for testing.

DATA have determined that this gynoid posesses artificial intelligence, but contains very little programming. They have deemed this gynoid to be of no immediate risk to the city or its people, and returned it to Afterlight and Onders, believing that the influence of these two heroic figures would help Paragons newest citizen adjust.

Afterlight has asked us to print this statement, and due to her saving the Paragon City Post building from Arachnos terrorist forces, we are happy to oblige.

"I and my partner are both deeply flattered by the great faith the men and women of DATA have in us to, essentially, help educate this new soul and bring her into our world. For despite her origins, she is a woman, and I believe she truly does hold a soul within her. Unfortunately, we do not feel we can handle this momentus task alone. We know nothing of integrating an Artificial Intelligence into our society, and appeal for help from those with more experience in these matters.

If you wish to help us guide this woman on her journey into humanity, please do not hesitate to contact me through MAGI.

-Afterlight."

Arachnos in King's Row?

Police are investigating rumours that a number of Arachnos agents are operating in the King's Row area of the city. A number of witnesses have come forward to report on suspicious activities and police are attempting to create a profile of the suspected villains. Local hero Buccaneer Blaze, who operates from a hidden base in King's Row, has indicated that she does not believe Arachnos could have got this far into the city undetected, but warned all citizens to be extra vigilant. Despite this reassurance, people living near the reported sightings are clearly more nervous than usual.

Bizarro - Issue 1, released on the 21st of March.

Cover girl - Holly Steel

(( Ok, i'm more than eager to add other chars to this, and i hope people take up the offer!

Basically the magazine covers all the freaky alternative stuff, full of swearing and bluntly written, alot of it is truthful and they dont twist what people tell them, the occassional [censored] rumour and awful joke are still in there, but not as much as the Old Inquirer for example.

Feel free to add your own piece of writing if you want to take full advantage of the magazine, write it how you like, i think you would of got a jist for the feel of the magazine from the short description and the look of it. And if needed i could create some 'fake pages' to put the writing onto. I'm trying to give the mag a 'real feel' so if you want your character in try to find a suitable model, anything minor i could have a go at photoshopping. (Adding mechanical arms and legs isnt my forte though.) Cover girls are good, but need to be a little bit sexy. For male characters a more rugged, action look would be better. (Having a guy in a shirt and tie waving at someone isnt going to work.)

PM me if your intrested all i need is maybe 2-4 'RL' pictures of your character, a little description of what you might want as a main header (In Issue 1 it's "Holy Holly!") and a few other small sentances i could add in. (Example: In issue 1 it's something Holly told the magazine.) And if you want to add the interview put it in your own words and i'll photoshop a suitable page to put it onto.

Standard template I could theme the magazine to suit the type of character in it, incase the Holly issue looked a little bloody.

It might be weekly or monthly, or a total one off, it depends how many people are intrested in having their chars in it. ))

CHANNEL 7 LUNCHTIME NEWS

"What do you do when you lose a superhero? Don Jones is in the Etoile Isles, and will tell us. What do you do when you lose a superhero, Don?"

"Well, that's the question, Gary. It seems that we've yet to find out. Two nights ago, here in Crimson Cove, which is an area of the Nerva Archipelago here in the Isles that has seen its fair share of trouble in recent years, there appears to have been an incident involving the heroine Liberty Girl.

Early in the hours of Friday morning a Longbow patrol apparently came across the scene of an attack which had left the young heroine severely beaten and unconscious, here on that cobbled street which you can see behind me. Liberty Girl had recently joined the well-known Unity Vigil superhero organisation, but they insisted that their heroine was not in the Etoile Isles when the attack too place. In spite of the Longbow incident report, the Vigil are sticking to their assertion, but so far they have failed to produce Liberty Girl - which lends credence to the reports, emanating from Longbow, that after the attack the heroine's body was removed by an unknown woman."

"So is there no sign of the heroine at all, Don?"

"Not a glimpse, Gary. Unity Vigil seem to have lost one of their newest members - possibly to a very serious attack indeed. Now this incident is believed to be entirely unrelated to the recent attempt on the life of the Vigil's founder and CEO Zorielle Rolando, but speculation is surfacing that the inability of the Vigil to keep track of and support their members, like the poor girl who was savagely attacked here, may indicate a diminishing of Ms Rolando's - and the Vigil's - capacity to effectively manage their affairs in the wake of that attempt."

"Thanks Don Jones, in the Etoile Isles. Channel 7 News will keep you up to date with that, and all our stories. Just stay tuned... Coming up - the household pet who helped this 7-year old chase off Freakshow thugs! That and more, after these words..."

The Militia - Returning with an agenda to clean up our streets

Text from the above article -

The Militia - Returning with an agenda to clean up our streets
by George S. Sinclair
The following interview now comes with a sense of sadness which was never attributed to it when I spoke with Amber Banshee and Britanic all those weeks ago. At that time they were enthusiastic and confident about the new beginning they had mapped out for The Militia. Now, with Britanic dead, it would be easy for such noble plans to fall into ruin. But not so with The Militia.

I present this interview, Britanic’s last, as a testament to the spirit of our city’s heroes. That in the face of death, destruction, and fickle fate, they continue to keep our dreams alive.

*****************************************

When the super group, The Militia, were disbanded by their corporate sponsor in September last year, few people expected to hear from them again. It was seen by most as closing the book on this team of heroes, who had spent over a year on the streets of Paragon City protecting its citizens from the likes of Dr Vahizlock and The Clockwork King, while at the same time courting so much controversy. But for some, the story was far from over.

I met with Amber Banshee and Britanic, two people who still have faith in the potential that a group like The Militia has to offer. They outlined to me why they felt that the team was worth preserving, both as a group and in name. “The Militia has always been home to me.” Amber Banshee, a slender young woman with flame red hair and a sweet voice which could crumble concrete if she chose, told me. “They were there when I started as a hero and when Wayne Industries collapsed, I just wanted to try and keep our little family together. I’d have been lost without them.”

“After the Militia officially went under, Amber had got in contact with several of us and called for a meeting in Atlas Park, much as the Militia did in the beginning.” Britanic, the English powerhouse otherwise known as Eric Mitchel, owner of Sentinel Industries added. “After we met up we agreed amongst ourselves to continue to remain in touch, and assist each other when ever we could. One thing lead to another, and the meetings became a regular occurrence."

“It made sense to bring things back to the beginning again, to start over.” Amber Banshee continued. “The spirit seemed to still be alive, even if we didn’t have some big corporate sponsor, so it made sense to keep the name, even if it has picked up a bad reputation in some circles.”

When asked about that reputation of the old team, and the militaristic nature of the group’s name, both the leaders of the new Militia offered a fitting introduction to the new agenda they wished to make a part of the group’s reformation. I asked them about the legal definition of a militia, that of a military force of citizens and whether that fitted with their new team.

“We do defend the city, repel invaders, meet threats but we’re people too.”

“We are citizens of this city too. We all have families and lives to lead. We’ve got talents, abilities, things that can help the city. It’d be wrong if we didn’t use them.” Amber Banshee said with evident passion. “So yeah, we are kind of like that definition of a militia. We do defend the city, repel invaders, meet threats but we’re people too. We’re not sat at the top of some ivory tower, we’re on the street, meeting people, doing what we can to help.”

“I want the Militia to be an integral part of the community it protects.”

“The name still fits. What has changed is the team itself.” Britanic said, following up on the heroine’s impassioned reply with his own more measured response. “What was once a small army of meta-humans is now a family of people looking to make a difference in the community. While we will be on hand to deal with massive threats like the Rikti Invasion, we will now also be there to stop the purse snatcher, put out fires, help find missing children, or for anything else that will help in some way.

“I’m not saying we are going to give up on the likes of Nemesis, the Rikti, and Arachnos just to become social workers. I want The Militia to become more accessible to the public, not just something to look up to. I want us to be able to inspire the community to help themselves. If that means we get our hands a little dirty cleaning up places, like Jimmy Carter ball park, then so be it. If we can do more good visiting a local school, speaking, and more importantly listening to the children, then I want us doing that too.

"I don’t want The Militia to be seen as Gods walking among men. I want the Militia to be an integral part of the community it protects. That way the community will help us to help them, ultimately helping themselves. Of course things our public deeds, and hopefully community projects will highlight just who the Militia are, and it's desire not just to protect, but actually work with the community it is a part of."

Following Britanic’s comment, Amber Banshee offered her own personal views on The Militia and where, as leader, she hoped to take it.

“The Militia in the past has had a lot of bad press, we might not always have been the most organised of groups and I think a lot of people might have the wrong impression of us, that we’re all just vigilantes and thugs out looking for a fight. But that’s not us. The past few months have been tough, shaking us up and making us take charge.

“Every day we’re facing new threats to the city, sometimes not even on this world, but our base is still only just down the street which makes YOUR neighbourhood OUR neighbourhood; YOUR issues, OUR issues. We’re more than just some random collection of heroes. We’re friends. We’re family. We’re not it this fight for fame, fortune and glory. We’re in it to make this city a better place to live in.”

Bringing the interview to a close I asked both the heroes about whether their new group could sustain such noble goals as engendering community spirit and social redevelopment while balancing the traditional responsibilities of the city’s heroes by protecting that same community. Was it possible to do all that with just a small team of heroes?

“As the Militia develops I'd like the Militia to establish contact's and relationships both with the city infrastructure as well as the general public. In time I'd like to establish strong ties across the board, maybe even appoint a community support officer or similar.” Britanic offered, in a measured voice. “Obviously there is only so much, so many people can do, so at some point we will need to expand to keep up. However, unlike the old Militia's seemingly open door policy, the new Militia will be more selective.

"I’m not saying the new Militia is now some sort of elite exclusive membership, but rather mindful that the team's overall goals and fellowship does not become compromised by unsuitable candidates. A harmonious team can accomplish far more than one whose attentions are divided."

“We want to inspire the public, not scare them.”

“Saving the world is one thing but a team doesn’t work well unless there’s mutual trust and respect both for each other and what we do.” Amber Banshee added, having the final word. “We want to inspire the public, not scare them. If people want to work with us, then they’re going to have to work WITH us.”

*****************************************

Following Britanic’s untimely death, I returned to speak to Jay Reynolds, who, as The Crimson Archer, had returned to the role as leader of The Militia he had relinquished to Britanic. Asking him about the plans which had been detailed to me previously he gave me his opinion.

“Nothing has changed” he said, his firm southern accent conveying a no nonsense attitude. “Everything that Amber and Britanic said before still stands, if anything it’s moved on a pace.”

“Later next month we’re planning to open a sort of drop-in centre in High Park. This new centre, which will be housed in the newly constructed Eric Mitchell House, will serve not only as a civilian point of contact for The Militia, but also as office and administrational facilities to assist with the many community projects which Amber and Britanic wanted The Militia to be involved with.”

“In this small way, we hope to keep the dream alive which Britanic started, and to make The Militia more accessible to those who wish to help us in cleaning up the streets, whether they’re volunteers or heroes.”

The death of Britanic, one of our most capable heroes, was a tragedy for our city, but it seems that his friends and fellow heroes won’t let his dreams die just yet, and I wish them every luck in that.

((Some extracts of text from the Paragon Pride article on Cindersnap))

Ryan talks about coming out as a mutant and coming out as homosexual, and any differences.
"And it's like, a bit similar really that you've got a difference to others, though it's not really that different at all and there's others in your situation, and completely different because I don't think being [censored] means you can set fire to stuff or shoot lasers or fly."

"Personally, I found coming out as a mutant easy in some ways, cause I didn't have to do the whole talk with my family, but not having them to support me either was a bit of a downer... as for if I had to come out as [censored] to them? I think they'd be accepting, cause at the end of the day, they'd love me for being who I am. Shouldn't matter if the person I love is a guy or a girl right?"

"All the friends in the heroing community I've made were really supportive when I came out, and I'm thankful to all my friends for like, putting up with me when I was fretting about it."

On asked about being considered a role-model and idol, and on others:

"Well, it's kinda embarrassing really! But I try not to let it get to my head and everything. There's like, a group of girls who hang around outside my apartment, which is annoying, especially for the other residents, but I've been trying to get them to spend their time better, y'know? I mean, doing community projects and teaching them sign language and all, or even just helping with homework where I can!"

"There's also the schools stuff, which I do due to being a member of the Unity Vigil anyway. I know some people think some talks might be like, trying to convert people, but most of those saying that don't really know what it's about. I mean, I don't say 'Be [censored]!' or whatever, I just explain that it's good to be yourself, y'know? Straight, [censored], bi, whatever, it's not really that big a thing. Being [censored] doesn't hurt people, just like being straight doesn't."

"I've got a lot of respect of others who get out there and just try and help, regardless of how and what. People doing stuff for the good of everyone, that's heroic too."

On his friendship with Crimson Archer:

"Jay's a really great guy, I consider him a good friend and he's certainly been there for me in the past when I've needed guidance. Plus seeing him on the magazine cover like I am now, well, that helped me come to terms with coming out, and I just hope that I can do the same for people. But yeah, we're good friends. There's like, rumours we're more than that, but that's all they are, rumours."

On the Unity Vigil:

"It's like we're a big family, y'know? Everyone's always friendly, and can always count on them to have your back in a fight. They're great friends too, it's nice to spend time with them outside of work or chatting on our commslink. Plus like I said, we do a lot of good community work too, which just makes it more worthwhile."

On acting:

"It's just something that I do to get out and meet people, y'know? More a hobby than a job. I love acting, so it's all a good idea, really!"

"I've been in a couple of plays in the past, I enjoy having the audience there to watch, even if it makes me more nervous! I've had a few tennative offers to appear as a guest star on TV, still kinda considering that though."

"It's kinda funny that my recent part, coming up soon for the Apollo Theatre's modern rendition of Romeo and Juliet has some people going 'You can't have a [censored] Romeo!'. It makes me laugh cause I'm the one who's [censored]! It's not Romeo and Julian! Romeo's still as straight as ever, and I'll be playing him straight. If anyone wants to like, be a critic, come to the play first and then say your piece! Some of the proceeds go to youth activity groups, so it's for a good cause."

Paragon Post, Page Two

Another shocking broadcast made by the man calling himself "Jargon" was beamed directly into the living rooms of Paragon citizens last night, this one perhaps the most controversial at all not only for its content, but the fact that citizens of the Etoile Isles also recieved the broadcast.

At 7:42pm yesterday evening the television channels WSPR, MTV, The Hero Channel, VH1 Classic, Fox News and Sports Six all had their regular shows interrupted by Jargons latest spectacle. Two more people were 'executed' during this show, Jargon claiming that one was an arsonist and another a known murderer.

This broadcast was particularly unnerving for viewers as sounds of manic laughter and images from the highly controversial, and widely banned, horror movie Freaks were woven in and out of the footage. Freaks is a movie set within a travelling circus, where the members of its freakshow hunt down and murder two criminal performers.

As Jargon brought his broadcast to a close, an image of a white leering face with a hideous grin frequently superimposed itself across our television screens as Jargons face slowly began to change. It is the Paragon Posts unhappy duty to confirm suspicions, after a short investigation, that the face was that of the mask worn by former supercriminal "Laugh Riot", now Headliner of the Unity Vigil. Tests have been run on the audio of the footage and Jargon's altered voice by the end of the broadcast has been confirmed as that of Frederick Jones/Headliner.

Although Jargon, due to size, cannot possibly be Headliner, Mr. Jones has been brought in by the Paragon Police Department for questioning.

(This article and similar ones would have appeared in several Skyway City newspapers on April 1st)

PUNCHLINE!

In the early hours of this morning a green flash erupted and vaporised a Talos Island apartment block and an adjacent convinience store. Approximately 47 people have been confirmed dead with 2 others missing and 1 survivor, currently in critical condition in hospital.

An anonymous tipoff was sent out to several heroes at approximately 00:52AM, April 1st 2008, calling them all to meet in an alleyway behind the Soy Green apartment block in New Sparta, Talos Island. Once all the heroes were present, what is believed to have been a stolen Rikti UXB bomb was detonated, destroying several buildings. When police arrived at the scene, various Freakshow tags were found scrawled across an opposite Chinese restaurant, along with the words "APRIL FOOLS!" in red on the sidewalk.

As of now the only confirmed survivor is the hero Boneblade of the Hyperion Watchmen, who was recently involved in defending the Terra Volta reactor against invading Sky Raiders alongside the rest of his superteam. He is expected to make a full recovery due to his regenerative abilities.

Police suspect the Freakshow gangster known as 13374G3 masterminded the trap. 13374G3 (reportedly pronounced "Leetage") recently masterminded several robberies in the New Sparta and New Thebes areas.

An anonymous witness described "I was on the corner like every night, minding my own business when I saw these capes go into this alleyway. A few minutes later there was just this massive green flash and then the whole apartment block was gone. Then all these Freakshow types came running out from behind a store and started tagging the walls across the road from the flash."

Police are appealing for anyone with information to come forward. (Full story on page 7)
