Paragon City was in shock last night to discover that Eric Mitchell, better known as the Battling Britanic, was killed in a horrific bomb blast.
At approximately 8.40pm local Kings Row residents reported the sound of a massive blast coming from the offices of Britanics development company Sentinel Industries. When emergency services arrived on the scene it was reported that a roughly 40 foot spherical interior area of Sentinel Industries had been totally atomised.
Due to the unusual nature of the damage specialists from D.A.T.A., and S.E.R.A.P.H. were called in to assist the PPD in their investigation. Analysis of residual radiation, and damage caused to the scene has led to investigators theorising the device used was most likely fashioned from pirated Rikti technology. They have also stated that anything caught in the blast was totally wiped from existence.
CCTV evidence recovered from Sentinel Industries showed Britanic had entered the office mere moments before the explosion. Further investigation into the tapes has shown that Britanic was indeed in the effected area at the time of the explosion. Due to the nature of the device used, as well as the CCTV evidence, the City Coroner has declared Britanic to be legally dead.
Due to some anomalous footage from the CCTV, as well as the unnatural cause of the explosion the PPD are currently investigating Britanic's death as being

THE military dictator of a remote island nation has been identified as potentially the next major threat to world peace.
A top political advisor, and one of the key minds spearheading the War on Terror and the worlds defence against the Rikti invaders, has warned that the word should watch General Buku of the Liberty Islands.
Unconfirmed reports of atrocities against his own people have filtered out of the notoriously isolationist country and there are fears that growing tensions with the Vanguard outpost on the islands could spill over into bloodshed.
General Jean-Baptise Buku, 48, seized power of the tiny Indian Ocean island nation while the world was focused on the first Rikti invasion.
Although a bloodless coup, it is feared that Bukus growing lust for power could be bad news for the islands white and Indian minorities.
Before taking power, Buku lead Liberty Islands small but highly disciplined military forces for six years. His troops were effectively an army for hire, seeing action throughout the African mainland in civil wars and other disputes.
Under the banner of liberating the native population from poverty, he marched his army into the capital square and took power.
However, the latest United Nations report on the islands suggests that poverty is more widespread than ever.
Political advisor, Truman Van Horn said: The worlds worst dictators have often begun their careers believing there are doing the best for their people. But as has been seen time and again, power corrupts and Buku is following a pattern that, in my opinion, could lead to atrocities in the Liberty Islands as well as a significant threat to the rest of the world.
In recent months, the United Freedom Coalition (UFC) has been established by Hatem Nasri and his daughter Rashme in opposition to Bukus Liberty Party.
The UFC promotes a more cooperative policy towards international relations as well as equality for the three ethnic groups on the islands.
Hatem Nasri said: General Buku made an immediate and potentially devastating move when he took power; a move that in time will either enable our tiny nation to prosper or see it become a nightmare. Buku is a soldier, he did all a solider can do, and now it is time to put the power into the hands of the people so they can elect a leader to give true liberty to our islands.

DJ STACKER LOSING HER MIND?
Concerns were raised yesterday over the mental health of Gemma Stacker, after she was spotted stumbling out of Pocket D into New Overbrook. Witnesses claim the musician and DJ was clutching her head and screaming at the top of her voice for nearly an hour before someone had finally calmed her down and took her out of the area.

SENTINEL INDUSTRIES TAKEOVER BID?
Many industry leader are concerned by the apparent move by Huntington International Ltd to purchase Sentinel Industries, following the death of its CEO, Erik Mitchell, last week. Inside sources indicate that Dr Richard Huntington III, owner of HI, has taken a personal hand in this action, which resulted in a hand-picked cadre of 'advisors' beginning the task of managing the company.
A formal statement from Huntington International states "Huntington has no interest in the businesses and contracts currently held by Sentinel Industries - this action is being taken as a caretaker opportunity to see Sentinel through the turmoil caused by its recent loss."
Dr Huntington himself made a brief statement in addition to this. "I do not want Sentinel. I do not own Sentinel. I do not ever intend to own Sentinel. The company and all its rights and properties are, and will continue to remain, an asset held by my friend Suzi, whom I am acting under a contractual agreement with, to ensure continuity and the continued success of Sentinel Industries."
Suzi White-Mitchell was unavailable for comment.

WATCHMEN TO COUNCIL: THREE STRIKES AND YOU'RE OUT!

THE Hyperion Watchmen carried out a series of devastating raids on the Council that has left the paramilitary groups latest scheme in tatters.
Reprisals had been feared since the Hyperion Watchmens celebrated saving of the President and Joint Chiefs of Staff from a Council masterminded mass assassination plot last month.
However, the Watchmens campaign against the Council shows no signs of wavering and last night three secret laboratories were destroyed by the maroon and gold clad crusaders.
Three high ranking Council leaders were arrested: Archon Ippolita, Archon Krieger and one of the groups few female officers Archon Carissa. The Watchmen had received intelligence that all three had planned to attempt to eliminate them either in retaliation for the Washington drama or as a pre-emptive strike to protect their latest scheme.
It is believed the archons will face charges for their part in Project Prometheus that aimed to create new metahumans through scientific means.
It is understood the Watchmen also recovered a database of Paragon citizens who had been involved in freak accidents in the last five years. The Council had kidnapped some of these people as well as geneticist Dr Myleen Kwan, who was rescued by the Watchmen last night, as part of the project.
When quizzed about the operation, the Watchmens intimidating leader Bastinado refused to comment.
Bastinado was accompanied by Watchman Suzi White-Mitchell, aka White Vampyr, in what is thought to be her first operation since the apparent death of her husband Britanic.

CROATOA CARNAGE

Croatoa is no stranger to violence but the extraordinary conflict that occured here early yesterday morning has stunned even the populace here.
Over the last few months across Paragon and beyond, children have been going missing from their homes and the streets without link and without trace. For many parents, hope was running low of ever seeing their loved ones again. That changed in the early hours of Valentine's day when a New Heroes union team including Chaotic Good, Fire Singer and teenage Vigilante Wolf Blade investigated a house that had come to their attention in Croatoa. Upon entry to the house, the heros discovered a scene from nightmares. Children chained to beds, malnourished, abused and forced to sleep in their own faeces.
Officers on the scene reported that these children were being stored here before being shipped to sweat shops and prostitution abroad. The zig reports that over fifty tsoo were sent to their medical bay after the encounter with injuries ranging from burns to stab wounds.
The PPD are now attempting to reunite missing children with their parents. Please contact the Croatoa station.
The NHU heros were unavailable for comment.

Paragon city is known for its violent crime, but no crime is as despicable as attacking a pregnant woman.
Unfortunately for the would be assailants in this particular crime, their target was Rebecca "Summoness" Campbel, wife of renowned hero, Ben "Big Lunk" Campbel, who was with her at the time of the attack.
Mrs Campbel was said to have been approached by a masked figure in grey at the Pocket D night club and bar, who questioned her about her psychic abilities, and requested assistance with a matter concerning his friend.
Alerted by the man's curious behaviour, and apparent desperation, Mrs Campbel discretely alerted her husband, who arrived to observe from a distance.
After further pressure, Mrs Campbel agreed to the man's requests, on the grounds that she would be accompanied by her husband. The would-be-assailant agreed, and went to fetch his accomplice, a small, cybernaticaly enhanced, young girl.
Upon reaching a secluded area, the two assailants attacked the couple, and after an initial strike against Mrs Campbel, where mercilessly beaten back until they ran from the scene.
Mrs Campbel is said to be resting after the ordeal, but otherwise unharmed.
Mr Campbel had this to say on the incident: "Such attacks are unforgivable, against metahumans or not. Beccs is heavily pregnant, and the shock of this attack may of sent her into early labour. When I find out who was behind this, rest assured, I will be making a b****ck necklace out of them. Put my family at risk, and you can say goodbye to any chance of one of your own."

"We've received reports that there has been a brutal murder of 2 adults and 1 child at a home just outside the city limits late last night. Witness reports that the attacker, a young woman of slim build, walked along the street, in apparent disregard to the little traffic around at that time.
"She then walked up the front path to the door, where in she proceeded to in what can only be described as a complete frenzy, tore the doorframe from the wall with several 'vines' that erupted from the ground, she then entered the house where nothing happened for several minutes. The next action was also seen by the police who had newly arrived at the scene, after the witness called them. The footage was recorded on the chase cam of the vehicle. We have the exclusive footage here..."

*the broadcast shifts to a "cars-eye-view" of a house, lights illuminating a white house front with a large jagged hole where a doorframe used to be a few cops working their way up the front lawn, guns trained on the doorway*
"Allright, come out with your hands up where we can see them and lie down on the ground with your hands behind your head!" the lead cop shouts out, advancing slowly, his comrades kneeling down to aim steadier.
There was a sound of commotion inside and a young girl walked out, hands behind her head as instructed. She was dressed in black leathers with green straps buckles all along her green skinned body, a demonic tail swinging from side to side behind her, a mask covering her lower half of her face, with completely blacked out glasses covering her eyes. A glint of brighter green highlighted a scar running down her right eye. She strolled down asif she didnt have a care in the world, not least the numerous guns pointed at her. She stopped and looks around, apparently just enjoying the evening twilight.
"Down on the ground, miss!" The officer repeated. Advancing on her with shuffling steps, he drew out a bottle of mace with his free hand as he kept his gun trained on her with the other.
The girl looked at him and chuckles quietly, it slowly building into a loud clear laugh, demonicness clear in the ringing tone it left after it. The camera shakes as rumbling is heard, the car bouncing on its suspension. Suddenly large thorn covered vines burst from the ground around the officers, quickly trapping their guns, arms and legs. The girl walks towards the lead officer and raises a finger, a trio of bodies being dragged out of the building onto the lawn, dissappearing under the cameras viewpoint. "You listen here, little man, this is nothing to do with you, and its going to stay that way..."
The girl closes her fist and the camera wobbles, then lifts into the air, along with the car, pointing straight up into the sky. A short scream is heard as the camera seems to fall, then cuts out as the video shakes and goes blank.

Obituaries
Blazing Blue Beetle (1972 2008)
Born heir to the millions of the Longthorn family, Harold Longthorn first came to the publics attention in 2005 when he first appeared preventing a hold up at Atlas Park bank. His distinctive blue helmet and costume earnt him the nickname of The Blue Beetle but he added the Blazing after a journalist described his pursuit of arch villain Wormwood across Talos Island at high speed. Despite his active hero career, he managed to maintain his business interests while still raising a large family.
Beetle died last Thursday when he fell from the sky high over Skyway City. It is thought that he was the target of an opportunist sniper. He leaves behind his wife Jennifer and his four children, Eleanor, Simon, Fleur and Daisy.
Painted Butterfly (1981 2008)
Hitting the headlines in May 2006, Christina Fulton was the proud recipient of the $8,000,000 payout from the Paragon City Lottery. Deciding to reveal her mutant origins to the world, she declared her desire to fight crime and promptly donated over two thirds of her winnings to charity. Taking to the streets as the brightly coloured Painted Butterfly, she concentrated on street crime, arresting numerous Skulls, Hellions and Outcasts as part of her clean up operation.
Butterflys career came to an end last week when an explosion destroyed her apartment, killing her instantly. Police are still regarding the death as suspicious.

Masked Media Bandit!
As many television watchers witnessed first hand this Wednesday, the Channel Six news at Ten O'Clock was interrupted by a masked man calling himself ' Jargon '. His broadcast was frequently interrupted by flashes of disturbing images and sounds, including a crying baby and a beehive that had been set alight. He spoke with a distorted and warped voice in order to further hide his true identity.
The self styled ' Jargon ' claimed that he was issuing a warning to the criminal element and that they would no longer find sympathy or forgiveness. An extract from his speech follows.
"Citizens of Paragon City, your regular broadcast has been interrupted. Do not adjust your sets. Listen to the sound of my voice and all shall become clear. The cruel and the misguided will be delivered unto you, to never stand trial."
No other channels were effected by this hi-jacked broadcast and a representative of Channel Six stated that they were in no way affiliated with ' Jargon '. If this man is the latest hero on Paragons streets, this reporter thinks he'll still call out for the likes of Zortel or The Crimson Archer if he needs help.
