As far as I am concerned Ive won the war by converting a single player who actually bothered to come meet my character in game and once working through the initial animosity he now has made his own character Statesman Beyond which I applaud.
Hey DV! You might remember me as the guy who made that really long post.

You read it right? I mean, I put a lot of effort into it, and there wasn't a reply :<
  2. Oh darn, I should have read this thread before replying to the other one, shoot now I know he's just going to dismiss my post out of hand, darn it.
  3. Hi there Demetrios, I’m Omy (Who members of the Union RP community might recognise as ‘Oh god, it’s the obsessive lore nerd’), and I’d like to talk to you about a few issues that have come up here.

To start, well there’s a lot to go through so we’ll start somewhere important, I’ve glanced through the lore references you’ve made here and in other threads and well, it might hurt to hear this my friend, but you’re wrong.

Yep, in almost every single reference you’ve made I’ve found crucial errors in what you claim is correct vs what is actually correct, this isn’t exactly helping your case is it? Campaigning so hard for ‘Lore RP’ (Which I’ll address later) while showing critical lack of lore knowledge yourself, ouch.

Next up would be the fact that you seem to dismiss anyone and everyone who holds a counter view to your own as just people who hate and/or are jealous of you, this is a bit more of a problem and is why I’m not really expecting a rational response but what the hey I’m four paragraphs in now. Anyway, why are you doing this, can’t people have valid views of their own? I mean as I’ve already pointed out you’re not as accurate on the lore as you claim, so if you can be wrong there, maybe you should listen to some other peoples views on other things too?

Now to the meaty part, ‘Lore RP’, it’s not a thing, sorry. No really, it’s not a thing, I don’t know where you’ve gotten the idea from, but RP in MMOs comes in two forms, those who acknowledge the world they’re in and build characters to fit, and those who just RP whatever the hell they like and do whatever they want, naturally these two kinds of people don’t get on.

Perhaps by ‘Lore RP’ you mean the playing of characters from the game lore? This is a big no no! As anyone who knows me will tell you, I frown enough at even having canon characters cameo in stories, actually playing out one of the characters like that? Well, that’s just not right, they’re not your characters, you don’t accurately know every last piece of info about them, their future roles or plot significance and so on, not to mention you’ve got the factor of interpretation to take into account, that can change a character quite dramatically!

To delve deeper into it, would you think it’s okay to RP another person’s character without their consent? It’s just bad form full stop. What’s more you seem to be missing the point, if you’re ever at say a PnP game, you’ll roll up your own unique character and have fun with them, yes you fit them into the background of the world they’re in, but you don’t commandeer parts of that world (Unless the point of the game is reshaping the world) for no reason other then it makes you feel more important, heck most Rpers don’t tend to like adventure supplements that come with pre-genned characters (With notable exceptions but they’re another kettle of fish entirely) at all, so yea, point is missed there.

Anyway, I’m rambling now, TL, DR version:

You’re not exactly doing it right.
  4. And we have another coming up!

    The Psychic Seminar!

On Tuesday the 6th of December for anyone who wants to attend!
  5. Is training course code for "Take out behind the shed with the shotgun"?
  6. It's a matter of taste really, I mean I for one do not like the story of Watchman.

Oh I fully appricate it as a wonderfully told story and the seriousness of the issues and how a graphic novel can adress them sure. I just don't like the story.

Heroes to me are flawed yes, but they overcome those flaws, they never give up, maybe they don't save everyone but they try thier damn best. And this is why they're heroes, because they can do these things without becoming mosnters, because they don't just stand around gormlessly while the evil villian does his thing. (I'll stop here before I turn this into another Tech vs Omy thread, we just disgaree).

The problem with injecting villiany intoa thread is that we as RPers here have very mixed opinions here, on the oneside you have people like me, who while we have flawed heroes we build them to overcome this and ultimatly save the day. While on the other hand we have people like Tech who belive there's no fundemental difference between heroes and villians and that good is dumb and all that.

You basically need to get a group of players together who can agree on the setting tone of that, trying to inject some villiany into an existign thread is going to run into trouble if what your image of how villians should go doesn't match up to everyone elses.

So yea, I don't think injecting it into an existign thread could ever work, you best bet would be to try and gather together enough plyers who like, or are willing to play in, a thread with a setting and tone you've outlined, or at least, this is my two pence.
  7. Query: Thread purpose: Vauge.

    Request: Clarification of Intent.
  8. With the TFs, the issue is that there's no lasting effects on the game world, with this issue there is, we literally have no more Galaxy City after all.

And like Outbreak, it's supposed to be a single one off event which you fight through and then the area is sealed off due to being too dangerous (Or I think so anyway).

So I'd say you could have had your chars there in the initial fighting, but they've left now, potentially with RP mission (Maybe if we get the new GC maps in the AE?) Back there to recover things in the future?
  9. I once again vote for my, "Thier projected course would have missed, but due to a P.L.O.T. device their trajectories suddenly changed before anyone could react" theory.
  10. A way for it to work could be a Preatorian Experemental clockwork that failed, got dumped somewhere, your desperate Kheldian gets themselves trapepd in the reactor, which powers the Clockwork up, maybe the cosmic energy short circiting it to give it free thougth and all that, and then sets out to explore the strange new world it's in.

All the while never knowing it's powered by a dying alien, hows that sound?
  11. While they can theoretically be used as power sources, it's not the same as a bonding/merger.

To creat a PB as we know and love them in the game they need to bond with a living sientient being, you just can't do that with robots (Or the council would have Nictus robot legions).

You could have a PB be trapped to power the clockwork, but in which case teh Kheldian would not be in anys tate to say/do anything, as it's just being a battery for somthing else.
  12. I think I'll butt in here to point out something that Dechs appears to be missing.

That all your examples wern't done for RPs, but have the handy side effect of helping them.

The new aura's costume parts and emotes gated behind trials for example, trials some of us will not do. Were they breadcrumbs to RPers they wouldn't be gated so.

Booster packs sell well beyond RPers too, because pretty much everyone who plays enjoys tweaking costumes and I'd hazard that there were more bosoter packs sold then there are RPers in the servers.

While on the same token, steps are apparently taken that have no logical sense other then to annoy RPers (Like no emtoes and choosable maps for Arena fights, destroying one nice low level gathering spot and leaving the other as raid central [Raiders being a well known group of people who antagonise RPers just for giggles]).

These are the points being brought up here, who'd have thunk that an MMORPG would take design choices to make RP more difficult.
  13. I can work like that sure, a fair few people have it as just an armour attachment, like I said, it's generally accepted there's at least two kinds, so you could go with that.
  14. There's frustratingly little info on the crab packs that we have, however my view on them is that you've got two kinds of them really.

One is grafted to the spine and effectivly becomes an extra set of limbs, while the other are just part of the armour.

Most people seem to lean on them being grafted to the spine though, at least in my experiance over on Union
  15. Atlas Park, Nazi Airship

Well, of all the things to happen the course of events that had just transpired were some of the most unexpected. Mirel took the moment of unexpected silence to glance around at the controls, if there was one thing a Water Aspect knew it was how to sail ships, even ships that flew.

And so after only a small bit of puzzling the Dynasts hands were dashing between controls, halting their airships advance quite easily, and settling it in for a nice vertical decent, right on top of the fight with the robot horde and giant Nazi cat woman.

“Attention everyone” She spoke out from the airships broadcast system, her voice booming out over the fight, “Your airship has just been commandeered by house Cathak, I advise all invaders to stand down immediately, failure to do so will result in me showing you absolutely no leniency at all, and really do you want to annoy the woman who single headedly captured this ship in a matter of moments?”

A few bullets struck home, sparking against the black armour as they hit but apparently leaving not a scratch. Any future fire would be given no such chance as Mirel spun around on the chain, the bladed fist not rapidly winching her up towards the airship swinging around to leave a deep blue trail of water covering her from the gunbots firing arcs, the few bullets that were fired at it shattered as they splashed into the surface.

With a faint click the armoured Dynast arrived at the base of the airships cabin, unfortunately there seemed to be no immediately available hatches on the underside for her to slip into, not that this really posed that much of a problem.

On the inside of the cabin there was another loud thunk as a new trio of blades pierced though it, quite rapidly cutting a circular hole out of the metal, directly underneath one of the swordbots, which had just enough time to exchange glances with one of its comrades before the circle of deck plating it was stood on and the bot itself were sent plummeting down onto the street below.

The remaining bots were given no time to react as in an instant a black armoured figure flipped in through the outside of the hole, blades on chains flying out to skewer the tow remaining sword bots, and with a tug back with both arms as she stood up straight Mirel flung them backwards into the rows of Gunbots.

As if this sight alone wasn’t terrifying enough for the poor pilot, it probably wasn’t helped as Mirel funnelled her Essence into making herself look just that extra bit intimidating, hoping to flick the right switches in the pilots head that it really would be best to just do as she said, hopefully making her more scary then his other superiors.

“I do believe this is my airship now, I trust you don’t disagree?”
  17. Atlas Park, Nazi Airship Battle

Mirel brushed down her armour after the rather sudden teleport, more to make sure she was all intact then it actually needed brushing down. She ran experienced eyes over the situation, this one would be tricky, but she could defiantly swing this to her advantage.

“I’ll capture the airship, when I do take control of it, do make sure they stop shooting it, would be a shame to loose something that valuable… oh and the mortal casualties to, yes, would be just terrible”

She said to the Outsider, the latter part of the statement being quite hurriedly added on as she sprinted her way towards the nearest streetlight, once more quite effortlessly running straight up the side of it before grasping onto the horizontal bar the lamp part extended off of and swinging herself around and around.

In almost no time at all the young dynast had swung up quite an impressive amount of momentum, and on the up swing she let go of the bar, being flung up towards the airship, curling into a ball briefly as she twirled upright once more, a great foamy white jet of water erupting from her feet to help propel her further and faster into the air.

Despite all this the Airship was still too high, Mirel wasn’t being to make it, her momentum bleeding off as she started to fall short. However, she really didn’t seem surprised by this, narrowing her eyes as if taking a tricky shot with a bow and extending a clenched fist in front of her, the blades sliding forth from her gauntlets once more.

As she arrived at the apex of her ascent, in the split second before her decent began, the middle of the three blades shot forth from her gauntlets, streaking straight up and piercing the side of the airship, the chain following it suddenly loosing all slack as gravity suddenly realised it hadn’t been paying attention to Mirel, but it held, even starting to reel itself back into the gauntlet and pulling the Dynast on the last stretch of her journey towards the airship, the blades of the other gauntlet extending ready in case she should be attacked during this final vulnerable stage.

Mirel sighed before acrobatically leaping from her laying down position to her feet in an instant, rolling her armoured shoulders a little to warm up.

“From the sounds of things you people sure could use a legion or two to help out here, what with all these constant attacks and invasions”

She made her way over to peer over the Outsiders shoulder.

“So how many and how are we getting there then?”

“Pfff” Mriel scoffed, “Though I suppose comparing Outcastes to common street thugs is rather apt, given they’re horrible disorganised rabble at best”

The armoured woman stretched out on the couch, before folding her hands behind her head.

“A shame this little bubble of reality is so disconnected really, from the sounds of things you could really have used a woman like my great great great grandmother, she’d have set all these problems right and sorted everything into a nice respectful society”

She pulled a hand back up to examine her rather well done nails.

“But it seems things have calmed down for now, we can talk about setting you up as a satrapy as soon as the diplomats get here, how’s the improved booze anyway Derek?”
  20. Currently @Ly. @Kallandra and @Zortel are okay to handle invites, but as said we should be back to open soon enough.
  21. Due to recent issues that may/may not have promted a certian post that may/may not have promted this post, Union RP is temporerally set to private.

It should go back to public soon enough though, until then ask for an invite via /t or on GGOOC I guess.

With a few more creaks from the couch Mirel leaned back, putting her feet up on the table.

“They don’t seem to make their furniture very sturdy here do they?” She commented while flicking a little at her slightly damp hair before continuing.

“As for what I was doing? I had just finished off an Outcaste and his ragged band of thugs, though wound up separated from my men in the process, I was making my way through the desert to the legion camp near Paragon when bam, fell through to here.”

She stated the last part almost as though the whole thing were boring, eyes hunting around the room for a fruit bowl or something to snack on.

Mirel grinned, taking the bottle in hand and swirling it around slightly before handing it back. The Beer inside looked subtly different, but it was hard to place how, maybe it was just a little clearer? Or the light was reflecting off it a little more intensely.

Whatever the case was, the taste sure had changed, it was one of the better beers (Almost the best) that anyone drinking it would have tasted, heck maybe Mirel wasn’t that bad a person after all.

“See, much better now isn’t it? So getting to know each other is it then? Maybe we should ask questions about each other? Unless you want to big old speech of my life story”
  24. Ahem, the strategy we settled on was to move any unengaged heros to join the battles of the engaged ones.

So if they do only attack one zone, we can quite easily have all the others filter in as reinforcments.
