The End of the world as we know it . . .((Union))

With the upcoming Headstart and all the changes/events is anyone up for making an quasi-offiical Unionverse " this is what we agree has happened, and what hasnt happened " thread ?

for example the Praet invasions and related TFs that claim to have blown up parts of Kings and Skyway..those we have large ignored as tempory one off events, with the new stuff the Zapping of Galaxy going to have a big RP effect, but i think it would be useful if we can agree on what actually happened and what is currently happening,(( as our heroes can not get back in there to save the day)).

So some sort of list of In-game things and how the Unionverse is going to RP those events.

For example, back with Galaxy, i am sure there should be some RP about folks going back to recover stuff from there, i mean it had the FC building, and the GG crowd might want to rescue some bits of the statue as keepsakes.

what do people think ??

Personally I'm inclined to go with a general rule that says "If it's happening on the live servers (eg the live events, destruction of Galaxy etc) then it's a cannon event that's happening for everyone. If it's something that only happens in TFs (destruction of Kings Row etc), then it isn't."

That's my 2 inf, anyway.

For a start, I think the part about us not being able to get back in there, but NEW heroes are allowed access, is absolutely grade A ultra-stupid. The Earth has been attacked by a deadly enemy, and they're REALLY only going to let the newbies deal with it? Riiiiight...

So I propose to totally ignore that part of it and, RP wise, let our guys be going back in there to help if that's what we want to do.

Otherwise, I think we really should use as much of a canon events as possible, including the new intro missions and NPC's, at least in conversation.

With the TFs, the issue is that there's no lasting effects on the game world, with this issue there is, we literally have no more Galaxy City after all.

And like Outbreak, it's supposed to be a single one off event which you fight through and then the area is sealed off due to being too dangerous (Or I think so anyway).

So I'd say you could have had your chars there in the initial fighting, but they've left now, potentially with RP mission (Maybe if we get the new GC maps in the AE?) Back there to recover things in the future?

Outbreak was a nondescript city block, much easier a 'one off' event, or even an 'once in a while' event.

This is Galaxy City.
Unless it's open to all again after the 'invasion', it's not a one off event. It's going on, always. Like the Rikti War in the warzone.

According to the setup comic you didn't get let in to help fight the Shivans. You found yourself as one of the heroes unfortunate enough to be in Galaxy during the Shivan strike, which forces you into the conflict. Immediately afterward, though, the Freedom Corps/Arachnos get you outta there and to safety. The only heroes there actually tackling the matter are the Freedom Phalanx/famous heroes, and one shot heroes working with the Freedom Corps.

I imagine we'll eventually get high level content dealing with us fighting the Shivans and tackling the invasion head on, but for now we're getting a small taste of what's to come while they revamp lower level stories.

Hey, I think it’s worth mentioning that during the Ongoing Training arcs The Shining Stars do end up visiting Galaxy after the attack to do hero stuff, however, in this situation they probably got the go ahead from Manticore.

Since I’m here I might as well give my opinion. Right now I imagine the policy it to simply seal and abandon the entire zone and not allow anyone for the time being rather than trying to turn back the invaders. This is somewhat similar to Dark Astoria, where the authorities basically bugged out and sealed the zone. The reason the Shining Stars could enter is because Manticore was probably able to pull some strings.

I imagine there were some heroes who were in Galaxy during the attacks initially, but they would have probably been asked to help get the wounded out, secure landing zones for the helicopters and hold off the shivans until everyone could be evacuated and such like. Officially, no-one is supposed to be allowed back in until the authorities have finished assessing the situation and worked out a plan of action (or somesuch), but I imagine heroes with enough political clout might be able to get around this. Other heroes, meanwhile, are probably protesting and trying to get the zone opened up to allow them to take the fight to the invaders.

I have to agree with Nitro.

I have one hero who will -try- to get back into Galaxy but find it out of his depth, and he can get through solid stone pretty easily.

Generally, I think any hero attempting to get in without permission would likely be arrested for their own safety. If not on suspicion of looting.

Villains would probably be more likely to get in there. Perhaps gang members if they can get past/under/over the blockades.

I know my Heroes would respect the law, or decide of their own accord it was too dangerous.

Villains would either see nothing standing and thus nothing worth looting, or couldn't give a damn.

Still, I expect there will be some people 'awesome' enough to get inside and do their own thing...

Is anyone planning any "one the day" fiction? There's no story line edict against your chars already being IN Galaxy when the attack starts!

Tempted to do some fiction for Vix (Vanguard and general medical), and possibly a con-glom of other characters reactions. Might be fun *ponder*

Retcon will have some 0 hour - fiction.

As for the Union, while 40-50 level stuff could be regaurded as happening right now/near future... Galaxy city is gone, it's totally gone, it will not be there post Tuesdy.

There’s the issue Fort Darwin. Obviously Longbow are going to be taking it, but storywise it very quickly get retaken pretty quick by Arachos. So with our wacky persistent shared universe who’s going to be in control of Darwin?

Either way, I foresee King wandering around punching Longbow in the spine.

The storyline comes right out and says "You were in Galaxy when **** got real."

That particular piece of storyline is for NEW characters.

I was, but both my primary and secondary plans for stuff concerning the GC wipeout have been eaten by my new job - or rather, the time I'd intended to devote to them was. I might still get around to a backup-backup deal, but chances are slim.

Not that I regret it, mind you. I love my new job. But sometimes there just aren't enough hours in the day to get everything done that you want to get done, and my priority list is pretty full right now, heh.

I'll be trying to get a piece up, as I've made it quite explicit that Luna intended to sit under GG and watch the meteors. I think it'd probably be neat to have a thread in the RP section for people's reactions, especially since there'll be a lengthy downtime. It'll give some of us poor obsessed souls something to do. :P

As the up time for the servers is 9pm BST are the GG lot planing on RPing tonight, or waiting till the post crash reboot tomorrow ?

It was written like that because King was using the aforementioned Longbow's blood as a writing medium.

In all seriousness, this could probably be a good reason for why the War has been delayed. Venom was certainly talking about the Longbow buildup in Mercy, and it’s probable her foresight would have picked up something big relating the shivans, so could have told the Commander to wait slightly.

Depends when the patch actually goes up for download. If I remember rightly it is fairly large, so if it only pops up at 9, by the time a lot of people get done patching, it might be a liddle late.

Projected uptime. It may not be up at that time, and I think I'll be busy getting characters made and so forth to do much in the way of RP tonight.

Does anyone have a projected time of meteor impact? Part of me wants to go with midday Paragon Time, seeing as the servers go down at 12 BST.

Posted

I was thinking 12ish too, but the newspaper clipping never made mention of a time, I think. I have some fiction ready to post, but have been holding on actually doing so in case anyone else was going to post any pre-meteor strike fiction like Z's...

Well, the servers actually went down at 11.00am, with a projected maintenance window of 7 hours. Of course, we'll have to wait and see, but it is possible that things might be working in time for GG (Hmm, we're going to have to pick a new acronym!).

As for impact time, late morning/early afternoon might be the best thing to go with imo.
