people leaving teams

I was playing nice earlier. Here's the deal. I don't like teaming. So when I do it is for a specific reason. If I feel the team will not help me accomplish whatever goal I'm going for, then I will quit. I won't give notice or anything. I'll just quit the team. I personally don't care if it is a PuG radio team or a task force. If I don't think the team directly benefits me in the way I want, then I'll just leave.
Do you know why I will do it that way?
Simple, because I see teams as nothing more than fillers to use as I see fit. When they are no longer useful, I leave. That simple. If the leader has a problem and demands an answer, I'll let him/her know. But I won't be nice about it. I will be extremely blunt and critical.
But Munki, why be so mean? Simple, because I play this game so I can have fun. As long as I'm not breaking any rules, I don't give a crap about anybody else. If somebody's day is worse off because they ran across me, I don't care. I see all of yall as nothing more than fillers on the way to accomplish my goals.
edit: The people that feel they deserve some sort of explanation are self obsessed losers. That simple.

Yeah, I know.
I just wish he'd tell us the names of all his alts on every server and all those he'll ever make in the future just so I can one star them all. Actually I suppose only one will do, then I can just /ignore him.
Life is way too short to have to deal with self-absorbed [censored] like this. Especially in a game that is supposed to be fun.

It is fun. For /him/. You don't matter.

At least this guy is honest with you. I think i prefer deal with such types than the lying ones that are way too polite but end doing exactly the same pretending to be "needed" elsewhere.
I may disagree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.
Voltaire
There will be times when people just have to quit in spontaneous times. Yes its freaking irritating but I understand. Real Life will not pause or take a endurance break so there will be circumstances when people will just quit. But, if a player just quits w/o an explanation and just all of sudden quits b/c there mission got done...this is to you...f**k you and dont come back to Coh, go play your other mmo.
And another thing, I'm just curious, why do people play mmo and solo? I assumed the point of mmo's is to play with other people? Solo is way to boring for me. Just my opinion and I know it may suck to some people.
Looking at MunkiLord's post...I swear to god I've seen something very similar to what he said...the only thing it lacked was mentioning every once in a while him and his buddies boot up City on their laptops and play together.

I don't think anyone demands an explanation for someone quitting the team. Me, I'm just fine with just a "gtg bye". It's a game and everyone is free to leave when they like. Well, there's also the TF thing where I feel a significant bit more strict, but that's generally it.
Really, it's not the lack of the explanation, but the lack of a "goodbye" that gets to me. Silly, I know, but hey. I don't pretend I can get everyone to follow etiquette, and I rarely PuG, anyway.
When I'm in a group I don't care who comes and goes.
It USED to bother me, big time, when I was invited to a group, crossed three zones to get there ... and then the group broke up within minutes of me joining. (Hobos don't wear deodorant -- so I was sure that it was all me!)
NOW, though, even that doesn't bother me because there's so many fast ways to get from one zone to another ... SG teleporters and Outerboros are a Hobo's best friends.

Then I13 introduced merits. Now, story arcs were good for earning merits in addition to regular drops. But only for the mission holder. The rolling PUG running whatever mish was closest has since become a rarity, as most (understandibly) would rather progress towards a reward for themselve rather than others.
[/ QUOTE ]
Nice version of revisionist history. The change goes back much farther and has nothing to do with any sort of "loot"
People don't want to travel. They don't like doing regular arcs (particularly hero side) because scanner missions are always in the same zone.
Saying the change is the fault of merits is kind of silly.

If I were to hazard a guess, I'd say maybe its cuz most MMO's are not available for offline play. Perhaps if there also an offline version of CoH the solo players would opt for that.
Also, in CoH's case, the solo player still benefits from the online population when it comes to recipes and the market. I'm sure there are a plenty of other reasons.
I like to team, yet there are times I'll pop myself into hide and solo just cuz I don't feel like teaming at that time.

Also, this game is very solo friendly in comparison to the other big boys out there.

EQ until seven years ago you didn't leave a group for fear of being branded unreliable.
[/ QUOTE ]
Fixed it for you.
I recall much group turnover in Plane of Valor before they opened it up to the huddled masses who couldn't complete a PoJ trial. And honestly, I can't see how you could've ever played Blizzard's Baby and maintained the point of view you have. Your sentiment is right (it's probably more common here than in other MMOs, if only due to the multiple alt phenomenon here), but to say or imply it doesn't happen in other games is, well, shortsighted. The more casual your social circle, the more common it seems to be. This game, being a casual player's wet dream, would of course have it happen more often.
It's only annoying to me when it causes a domino effect. One person leaves then half the team has an epiphany that they have to leave too.

Ah, we may be questing solo, but we're playing *in* a world with many other people. Massively Multiplayer doesn't imply grouping anywhere, just that the game world is inhabited by many many players.
--------
As for the OP..... yeah, that's why I don't group. I can never be certain that I'll have to stop at a moments notice, and I refuse to be the rude guy who abandons the team in the middle of something.
So, I never team.
If I join a team I normally stay for one - two missions. Now if I join a TF/SF I have always stayed till the end. Even when the fiance was being provocitive I told these guys they need to hurry... lucky me they did lol.
only exception if I am invited to PL someone I/E...
I am the only lvl 50 on a group of toons lvl 1-43 doing a MA mission that auto SK's. I will note most the players and quit before the mission start.
I have a pretty large global friends list and pretty much team strictly with global friends and the people on my ventrillo server. Now I still pug once in awhile but those people have a lower priority then RL and prior online friends.

The last time I saw you ingame, well the only time on your namesake I guess, you were face down in the AE.
My point? I don't have one, was just padding my post count.
I'll just tell my team that I don't feel like playing anymore and get off, regardless of the reason.

I don't really think it's silly at all. Remember, I am merely posting MY PERSPECTIVE of what I SEE in the game. I have seen a lot of people who are unwilling to run teams if their missions are not the ones being run (how do I know....because people have said "I don't want to run your missions instead of mine")
For the record...*
No, I cannot prove what I say through screenies or chat logs.
Yes, I actually kinda like merits.
No, I am neither a dev lover or basher.
*Sorry if I'm coming off as a bit of a [censored], I just sometimes feel like it's hard to post an opinion without being challenged for any of the above reasons.

Thanks MunkiLord, I could not have said it better myself!
I don't play this game to meet new people, make friends or find a new lover. I play to vent frustration and punch/kick/zap pixels until they dead.
Sometimes I jump on PUGs to do that. I sometimes say something when I come and go. Sometimes I don't. I do what suits my mood.
I agree with Celestial_Fury:

The politeness police can whine all they like, I play the way I like to play, just like they do. I follow my rules, they follow theirs.
The difference is that I am not trying to force others to do anything. I accept them for who they are. The busy-body's (busy-bodies?) of the world just cannot do that, it's not their nature.

Or it means leaving your character in the mission instance while you're busy doing any number of RL things, but don't feel like logging out or don't have time.
Simple fact is, don't make assumptions just because you /friend someone and see them logged in. Unless you see them broadcasting LFT or in the market or what have you, it's really none of your business what they decide to do with their time instead of team with you. If you have a bad experience with them, /playernote them and move on. Don't come whining about it here (same goes for the original poster).

Why not come share some misery? This is the CoX community after all.
They made it my business when they asked me to join them. I didn't even approach them initially. Only to be booted later. I'm not asking for sympathy, I'm just sharing my experience just like the OP and I think this *is* the place for it.
