But but! It does not make sense anyway to hear a loud WHOOSH WHOOSH while doing the first cone attack and the aoe. And if a staff was ever connecting a big hit then you woudl hear a big BAM but the WHOOSH WHOOSH should then stop.
You cant have a big impact sound when doing what seem to be a defensive staff flaying move. And that is the sound of the flaying staff that makes me go crazy. It is jsut way too loud.
I agree that the single hit attacks could use a bigger CRACK sound like if the staff shattered a skull but please remove the whooshing light saber loud sound from the aoes. It makes my ears bleed! -
Yes,
thank you devs for the I23 Staff Melee sound. The old sound ( whoosh whoosh light saber ) was playing way too loud and was very irritating to me. Everytime i played my Staff chars i had to lower FX sounds and it was sad.
I hope the sound we have now in I23 will remain as it is because it is less annoying and personally i think it feels more like a staff now than a freakin pole light saber. -
OMG please no!
I hope the sound we now have on Live since the patch will remain. The staff sound is alot less annoying to hear now when doing the cone and aoe attacks.
The sound was playing way too loud compared to the other sounds in game. It was annoying for me and for the other players around as well. It did not make sense anyway ( like a light saber sound, ridiculous ).
I am sorry to disagree with you guys but i really hope devs intend the Staff sounds to remain toned down and i will campaign for that -
Quote:To be honest, i would quit playing. I am a gambler and the random drop rewards is a major thing that keeps me playing. That is why i could play Diablo 2 for years, i never get tired finding new unexpected trinkets.Imagine you cannot gain any XP, get no new powers, no influence, etc. Maybe you are max level, everything is slottted with purples. You have every badge. There is nothing left to buy.
With no rewards to influence what you do in game, what would you do?
I find teaming to be the most satisfying. I like a variety of foes and a variety of maps. I suspect I would want to team with people for radio missions. A fair amount of variety that is very convenient.
I would do Sutter's TF because it is epic and fun, maybe the Posi's. The other TF's I would probably avoid because they are long and tedious.
Of course, there is more than that to the game but really, with no random rewards, i would leave very soon.
That is why also i am thankful that the Merit system did not turn out ot be just "choose your reward" thing. The opportunity to gamble Merits for Random Recipe rolls is really a blast for me.
Did i said that i loved gambling ? -
Quote:Well fine then, forgive me to have been a doomsayer. Well, if everything is fine then that's cool, i certainly have alot of characters i can see take a total advantage of that IO once placed in the very specific power.I use Solar Flare alot on my PB...Solo. On teams I don't bother, but with the IO that will change.
I'm sure the Devs have considered, but in the last couple years it seems like they are less and less concerned about players being able to run Roughshod over content. It's like their attitude is: "Hey, we're designing the game challenge with the 'average' player in mind. With time and investment, you now have the means to create Superman and make most regular content challenges trivial. Your call - we don't care. We know most players won't."
Most players using Shockwave or Solarflare won't ever have this new IO. If those that do become overpowered, well, that's the 99th way out 100 to do so these day.
Hope we all will be having fun! -
Quote:Well, i do use alot Shockwave when i solo or when i am sure i can pin all the enemies agaisnt a wall.My concern is 'balancing factors' making people not even want to use a power at all. Shockwave and SolarFlare 'balanced' with KB being two obvious examples...
I like the power for what it is but i am not abusing it because it could be counter-productive because Knockback IS counter-productive at times.
However, would Shockwave be a Knockdown cone power, i know that i would be using it non-stop and abusing the hell out of it.
I am just wondering if the devs are ok with that, if they think it is unbalancing or that i am totally wrong and even with such a power it would still be judged "working as intended", nothing to be concerned about.
( Edited for typos ) -
Quote:Well, what i mean is that some powers in many AT were probably balanced in function of their secondary effect.Trying to use a KB version of Bonfire as a Blaster is probably annoying. But as a Controller having a tool like Bonfire that can cause KB is an absolute blessing. I can probably think of a dozen different ways a Controller can benefit from being able to move critters away from or towards various locations using Bonfire.
Basically KB can be annoying if either you or the team you're on doesn't know how to use it properly. I guess it's cool the Devs are giving us a way to turn KB into KD, but I'm probably only going to use it on a couple of alts max and it won't be in Bonfire. *shrugs*
And i suspect the Knockback effect was seen by the devs like a "neutral" or at least a penalty of a sort while a Knockdown is probably always seen as a bonus with no downside whatsoever.
So turning powers that were "balanced" somewhat with the Knockback effect into powers that are now doing Knockdown may ( or may not ) become a problem.
There are already powers in the game that are meant to Knockdown enemies and they are balanced in function of it ( damage wise, recharge wise, aoe wise ).
Let's now look at a power like Shockwave which is a fairly fast reload power and was given the Knockback effect maybe for balancing reasons ( i am not sure, i am just assuming ) and let's see what happens when it becomes a Knockdown power used in a normal rotation within a team context. Now let's look at it activated by a recharge buffed player which would spam it non-stop.
I am just wondering if the devs are ok with that or feel it might be overpowered and if so, i just would not like players who do not slot that IO to get penalized if Shockwave gets a damage or recharge nerf.
That is my concern. -
Quote:Personnaly i am more concerned about the game balance issues that might arise with these KB/KD converters enh.Even as a unique, it's still a major game changer. Solar Flare, Repulsing Torrent, Shockwave, the list goes on. Even for Energy Blast, I'll probably put it in Torrent or the AoE.
OMG...just so excited!
For exemple, let's take a look at Bonfire, a power devised to provide a high rate of KB proc. Now it gets turned into a perma-KD power. So that means it could provide a lot of control with no downsides.
Now what is Bonfire power recharge time before being usable again? And let's comapre it to say Ice Slick.
Just want to make sure Devs know what they are doing. Some powers in certain set are meant to cause knockdown at area location. Now some powers that were meant to do knockback will do knockdown and be spammable like Shockwave. Look at the recharge rate of these powers, their damage and compare them to other powers who already are aoes or cones that do knockdown. -
Hi!
Personally, i never liked the PPM mechanic because it is not clear how it works and it seems more like an auto-thing than a gamble.
I like gambling.
I like to see that the Enhancement i slot shows a 15% flat rate of causing negative damage upon every activation.
Before Procs even existed in CoH i had the habit to dismiss fast recharge but low dmg powers.
Bringing procs in the game made me reassess the utility of these fast-firing powers. Heck, i even slotted Brawl with 3 random DMG procs and liked it.
These days, my tanker has Shadow Punch at about 2 seconds recharge slotted with 4 procs ( Perfect Zinger Psi dmg , Mako Bite Lethal, Cloud Sense Negative dmg and Touch of Death Negative Dmg ).
Does that make me a min/maxer? I am just having fun and it makes the game less monoton and more random. Sometimes only 1 procs fires, then 3, then none, then 4! I find that amusing. It is like a slot machine.
PPM looks like an "average-always the same thing repeating over time" which i find quite boring.
Why not keeping both systems? Or why not making the SBE exactly the same as the crafted IOs? I vote for having flat rate in every procs randomly occuring upon activation. -
Quote:In the short term I'm sure the packs look like a winner. But I don't see them as a long term money maker. The reason is there just isn't much to them. Once you have the outfit there's nothing that's worth the gamble.
AIO's can be earned in game, the power ups are drops in game, and most of the common stuff like the insperations are junk.
The packs need more to them.
Add character transfers, character slots, purple recipes (even if account bound), A-merits, Threads, E-merits, Incarnate rares. These choice items would be rare cards but would give reason to keep buying them.
Right now alignment swap costs 800 points. A transfer costs 800. A character slot the same. I wouldn't buy any one directly but if I got one from buying 10 packs at 80 I wouldn't feel ripped off. These are all virtual items. COX only looses out when we don't buy. They loose nothing if I buy X over Y.
I beg to differ. Let's see more in detail what you get in these packs:
- Costume pieces ( the less useful thing to me because it has no gameplay value if none of my characters use them )
- Inspirations ( Very low value but not totally useless, i would not pay real money for these thought )
- Enhancement Boosters, Enhancement Unslotters ( this starts to look better, i really often use these since i have 45 characters and i tend to swap lot of stuff around. I never bought these as a stand alone product thought but as a side-prize, i like them )
- Windfall, Prestige and Patrol XP powers ( All useful stuff to me that i would not buy as a stand alone product but i am happy to get them in these packs )
- XP 1hour boost ( Good stuff again, nice side-gift i would not normally buy )
- The Archetype Enhancements and Catalysts ( Now you talk! Good stuff, high replay value, interesting procs. I might even pay real money just to buy these alone )
- MERITS , not hundreds, TOUSANDS of Merits points! ( And this really was the selling point for me )
In the end, the SuperPacks gave me 153x25 Merits ( 3825 Merits ). To me, that is priceless. I calculated how much Merits i can get per hour and how much time to get to 3825 and that represents LOT of time.
3825 Merits. That means 191 Rare recipe rolls or 191 TF completed before the Merit Vendor existed.
3825 Merits gained in 5 minutes for less than 60$. I only bought 3x24 Super PAcks so far.
Let's assume a TF duration is about 1 hour in the "best case" for a Reward of 20 Merits. Then i basically got 191 hours of playtime worth in 5 minutes.
Yes, Instagratification, that's what it is. But i am willing to pay for that when i feel it. That is my choice.
I do not feel robbed one second by the NCSoft. And the Merits are very Versatile. I can directly buy recipes i want ( Numina, Miracle, Kismet, whatever ) and use them or even sell them for millions of in-game money. Same goes for the Archetype Enh.
So there it is. My opinion is that these SuperPacks were GREAT value to me. I will probably buy more of them. The Wolf and Costume Options are what is the less important to me in these packs.
Edit: Now i also agree that Purple Recipes, A-Merits, Threads and other Incarnate stuff would be great prizes if they were inserted in random Super Packs. I would certainly buy such packs and try my luck at them. Great idea! -
Quote:It is not like you do not have the choice.well I for one am sorry they ever got into this kind of selling.they are giving (right or wrong) the impression that all they want to do is seperate us from our money in our wallets. limited time vanity items, over priced items, pandering to the "gambling" urge.
all designed to get us to in addition to a monthly fee, to reach for our credit cards and send money to them.
now that we have the first animial travel power, how long before they flood the market with varations? panther travel power, wolf travel power, XXXXX travel power. each to get us to spend buy PP to purchase.
Really, you do not need any of that stuff to play and enjoy the game.
I did not buy the Wolf Travel power, i was not interested in it. Some players were and they bought it.
I think SuperPacks are giving a big bang for my bucks so i bought many of them. I never felt compelled or forced to buy anything. Sure i like to flip cards and get random rewards but i would not pay real money if i felt it was not worth it ( to me ).
There really is nothing wrong with that system. The more money you spend, the more stuff you get. It is a universal model that pretty much every kind of stores in the world follows.
There will always have people who want stuff but do not have the money for it. Well, too bad for them. Stores ( CoH store or any other stores ) are no charity organizations. I can't buy the Ferrari and crying about it won't help. So i just forget it and move on or i try to earn enough money for it.
If CoH comes up with more stuff i want that i can afford, i am pretty sure that i will buy again. It is my choice. -
I also tend to agree with Tetsuko.
If you really believe these Super Packs to be something illegal then fine. So then what? Personnaly i think you are wrong but even if you were right, i do not see why you keep bringing this in that thread. I don't know. Just don't buy the pack. Call the police or whatever and test your theory.
Really, i do not see where you want to go with this. The Superpacks are legal? Yes, then what? Or the Superpacks are not legal? Yes, then what? What are you really trying to tell us?
Now if it can reassure you a little, i am willing to bet with you that the CoH attorneys have examined thoroughly the whole thing before letting the marketing team put the packs on sale.
I think one can disagree with the Superpacks for whatever reason but questioning their legality? Now that goes a bit over the top IMHO. Super packs are nothing revolutionnary, such things have been around in many games and forms for years and i really doubt that they are illegal. And i doubt it can be proven that they are in that thread. -
Hi CoH Developpers and Marketers!
I take the time to write here that i am VERY pleased with the new Super Packs!
I am an adult and i do not mind gambling once in a while. So i bought 3 times the 24-Super Packs and got much fun opening them all.
I am very satisfied. I got all kind of cool stuff and do not feel it was a waste.
To answer to those players who feel it is too expensive then pelase read the following:
1) I bought 8000 points for 100$ and got an extra 1600 bonus ( which alone pays for the first 24 packs )
2 ) I pay a monthly 15$ subscription to the game.
3) If we add 100 + 15 then playing CoH this month will cost me 115$.
4) What is 115$? It is less than 4$ a day to play a game i like. It is less than buying beer.
5) 115$ was what i could spend in one single night in a nightclub or a restaurant not long ago.
6) So CoH is VERY CHEAP entertainment ( like any MMO ) in my book.
Thank You City Of Heroes for all the fun you give me every day at a budget price!

I have played both Katana, Broadsword and Titan Weapon with scrappers AT and i do not agree that Broadsword is that bad as some of you make it.
The thing i noticed with Broadsword is that the little bit more of DMG it does compared to the katana can make a big difference between oneshotting a Lieutenant ( The difference between Headsplitter and Golden Dragonfly ).
Yes, BS is slower but it really can pack some punch.
About Titan Weapon, it is very powerful but it is alot less defensive than BS or Katana. Parry which can be spammed every 3 seconds and stacked is better and gives bonus defense against Lethal which includes any Lethal ranged attacks. Titan Weapon do not provide any ranged defense vs Lethal.
Just saying. I like the 3 powersets for what they are.
After 6 years, the only powersets i would never ever consider replaying are Force Fields, Sonic barrier and Empathy. Well, i hate any powersets that have many buffs i cant use for myself. But again, i am really a melee player and almost all my chars i got to 50 are Scrappers, Brutes, Stalkers and Tankers.
Favorite All time goes to Dark Melee ( dark dmg, self heal, fear, immob, -to hit buff ) i never get tired of it -
I was in a level 30 mission team last night and we were 6 stalkers and 2 night widows.
It was a really strange experience but it was a blast! Very entertaining. We were like 8 ninjas.
That is what i love about this game. Anything, yes ANYTHING can work if you really want it to work.
I was thinking about Aion while playing. Was thinking about how much time i wasted back then because building a team took ages, because nothing could be done if you had not with you a healer, a tank or mezz.
In CoH, you just invite whatever is available and you are set. Inspirations drops like candies and you can run all along with only these and your teamates forever.
Any player loaded with Inspirations can accomplish miracles.
The real Universal I Win Button: Inspirations -
It is the law you say? Change the law then because it is lame! Why no one will change it is beyond me. Anyway, any justice system that is expensive is right from the start not just. If you fair trials because of the fees charged for the procedure then where is the justice in that? See. It`s lame.
-
Quote:Don't blame the judicial system. Blame companies like Disney that are sue happy.
True that. It is thw whole "suing" system that is to blame. They should not have the right to sue happy like that. Or at least, suing should not be an expensive procedure so that any sued entity or person could with ease defend themselve at budget price.
Lame system... It is so american.. Tsk tsk... -
You can name your char Arthur in CO. Just sayin. Think they will be sued over that? Scary.
-
Glad to hear there is a fix on the way for this.
So i was actually NOT totally crazy huh? It was more than a "perception" issue haha.
Not tryin to rub it in... Just glad a fix is comin... I was tired being on break and not playing. 4 days without CoH... Ewww, i was goin insane. -
If it is only my perception that is the problem then that is really too bad. Because my perception affects my will to play the game. If i feel that i am getting recipe drops way too rarely then i am getting bored very fast.
My perception tells me that i was getting recipes when soloing at basic difficulty before I16 and that now i am rarely ever getting any. I could not care less about setting my maps for 8 players to raise my chances to get recipes. Simply put, i do not want to farm and kill tousands of mobs before getting the simpliest basic common recipes.
Would devs consider doubling or even tripling the drop chance for mobs? Or drastically lower the Merit cost for recipes? 5 Merits should be worth a random roll IMHO. That would be nice. Anyway, got bored and am taking break from game. Not willing to cope with a terrible drop rate like we have right now.
Hopefully Going Rogue will make me forget about Recipes and loot when it will come out... -
Ultimate Truth:
All of this has happened before. All of this will happen again.
So say we all.

Quote:For myself, all my characters on live pre-I16 were set on Heroic/Villainous difficulty ( i never touch that thing, i join team when i want harder stuff... ) and i changed nothing since then.Agreed. The difficulty settings may or may not be having an effect, but it's not as simple as "You're getting 1/8 if you're set for 8, and the other 7 disappear into the aether". If that were the case, drop rates would consistently be 1/8 of what they're supposed to be. At my worst, I only end up at around 1/4, and most folks who have trouble seem to be in the 50-70% range.
Random thought: What character-level settings changed by default when I16 went live? One is that everyone got dropped back down to the base difficulty. Could that have had an effect like what we're seeing, where some people are just fine on drops based on where they were pre-release, while others are not? How are drops on characters created after I16 went live?
I have not created new characters since I16. And if drops stays like that, i doubt i will, game has become so zzz... Feels like CoH Issue2 but without enhancement drop haha
Starting to miss all my level 50 Training and DOs that were filling my tray before. At least i was getting something. Ok.. To be fair i am getting decent salvage drop but thats all, really. Thats not good enough. -
Quote:I fail to see how it would give any useful results. As i said above, even playing alone on a map set for 1 single person is showing awful drop rate compared to what it was pre-I16.I didn't feel like reading 12 pages of this thread, but has anyone tried the old method of using fillers to see if the drop rates are different for soloists who use fillers over using the new mission settings?
My take is that if 1 playing at x1 is bad, odds are that 2 players playing at x2 will also be bad and etc.
Edit: I doubt the issue is that drops get generated and awarded to "ghost players" since one single player not on a team and killing stuff in the streets is definitely getting less drops than before I16. On test server, i was alone killing level 50 stuff in Portal Court in P.I. and i only got 1 level 50 common recipe. It was pathetic. -
Quote:I concur here. I see no problem with salvage drop right now. It actually is the only thing with inspirations that seem to drop consistently on live. Recipe and Enhancement drop need to be looked at.That's a great list. The only thing I would add is that the /whereami command allows you to know precisely *which* map you're on, if we feel the need to record that as well. For instance, the "Retrieve Void Hunter Rifles for Abyss" mission I used for a lot of my testing is on one Council warehouse map in the version I had on Live, but one of a couple of different Council warehouse maps thru Ouroboros. If we think map might be a culprit, being precise on which map may be useful.
I've gotten somewhat sloppy on some of this, I'll admit. I think it frustration at hearing nothing for so long led me to just want to keep collecting data points to show that there's really something going on.
A final note from my end - all my testing leads me to believe that there is nothing wrong with salvage drop rates. Continuing to track them is fine, but my tests have all showed salvage rates easily within margin of error for whatever sample size I collected, barring perhaps the smallest. -
You could also record normal Enhancement drops by the way. I have not get any of these either during my missions yesterday.
Actually, i got one Enh but for completing story arc. No enemies gave me any ( calculate 6 door missions set for 1 player where i killed them all, dunno how many enemies all that totals ).
