people leaving teams
usual stating when leaving team..*ahem*
"need to leave now, thanks for the team"
Also since everyone is getting on Munki for his post he is honest. If he quit my team for the reason it does not fit him, then I am glad cause his is not helping me in the end run. Cause at the end of the day it is all about insert personal name here.
Also I quit many team like that before sayign I am leaving cause they were going nowhere in my eyes, people do it all the time in RL, so it is natural people would do it in a game where they use it to avoid stress.

And another thing, I'm just curious, why do people play mmo and solo? I assumed the point of mmo's is to play with other people? Solo is way to boring for me. Just my opinion and I know it may suck to some people.
[/ QUOTE ]
Honestly, if there was a single player option in the game, i'd probably use it pretty frequently. Some days i don't want to deal with people, but i still love my characters.
It doesn't help that, because i appear to have at least 1/2 a brain, the star gets tossed to me regularly. i don't want to lead your stupid team. i don't want to be the one in charge. i'd rather SOLO than lead your team. (general you) So, when i keep getting handed the star in every team i'm on, i will choose to go solo instead. (And if i get handed the star as soon as i join, i'll /quitteam without notice just about every time.)

Outside of a TF, I don't think it's a big deal when someone quits and I don't think they owe anybody an explanation.
[/ QUOTE ]
They sure don't owe anyone an explaination.
Unless they mind that nice shiny one-star and "rude, leaves teams mid-mission without warning" note I might stick on them....but other than that, rudeness and greedy behavior are a-ok with me.
[ QUOTE ]
As long as I'm not breaking any rules, I don't give a crap about anybody else. If somebody's day is worse off because they ran across me, I don't care. I see all of yall as nothing more than fillers on the way to accomplish my goals.
edit: The people that feel they deserve some sort of explanation are self obsessed losers. That simple

I foresee a lonely old age for you. No kidding, not being sarcastic. This verges on pathological, and I hope for your sake you don't carry it over into real life. If you do, it IS pathological.

I feel sorry for you, and that is the honest truth. But, being sorry for you does not mean we're going to have a war over your behavior; that behavior - and its consequences - belongs solely to you.

It wasn't his saying that he quits teams, it was the tactless manner he expressed it and the reasons he stated for doing so.
Which provides a good example of why politeness is important, people tend to dismiss you and your thinking without it. Humans are hardwired to be social and ignoring those usual social niceties tends to get you ostracized.

I totally empathise with your frustration. Just earlier this evening I thought, "Hmmm, maybe I've been a little hard on AE. Perhaps I'll give it another go." Conveniently, I was in AP when I had this thought and AE teams lfm were abundant.
I joined my team about 4th or 5th on the roster and waited for the team to be filled out. I marveled at the number of toons hanging out near the data stream and browsed for cool costumes to bestow some of my hoarded Numina: Heal IOs on. Then I noticed that the team was full and most already entered the mission.
Once inside we were on a custom map full of sledehammer-weilding doctors, nurses, and civilians. It looked like the work of Mother Mayhem and mayhem was exactly what we started dishing out.
As we progressed through the groups of baddies, I noticed that our team was shrinking one member at a time. We didn't team wipe, but a controller might have been careless in drawing too much aggro and face planted. The mobs weren't going down super quick as they were all lvl 54 with what appeared to be some good damage resistance.
Finally, there were four of us left, and I guess we failed to protect something because suddenly we were booted from the mission.
On that note, I typed a quick, "*Now* I remember why I solo." and quit the team. I'll be happy to stick it out on my own a little longer and dream of the day that I can solo a map like the one I was on with the new diff system coming in I16.
[/ QUOTE ]
Whatever mish that is, it seems to be the going thing these days for farming, I've ended up on it twice (once without realizing I was on a farm; I bowed out politely).
That's pretty much the same behavior I saw on those too, someone dies, suddenly the team loses a player.

Well I do know that a lot of people were stating his disgust with the reason, or how he went through it. Cause all I said is if quit on my team with that reason then he would be no use on my team cause our ideas for the team conflict.
While politeness is important, as we are sociable creatures as you said. The flaw is we are interacting through pixels on a screen. You could say something, and I could believe you are not saying it in a different tone.
For that if he came to me and said that to me, I would take it for it is, a string of text, from I have experienced in my short life, a person will try to alter themselves to be someone different when they have no "real life" interaction with them.
*EDIT*
I did not really go out and say he quits all his teams. But when he does that is how I would react which some people do not like. Nothing more nothing less.
munki why are you playing an mmo if you don't want to interact with anyone who doesn't benefit you? That's just stupid
Play crysis or half-life or something if you want to kill things, hell go back and play freedom force if you want to done your spandex and take out some dastardly villains
if you don't feel like playing w/ the community why play a game BASED on that community
I rarely team due to the times I am on. I get on a few SFs but mostly solo. So why play this, well there is the idea it is a good game that offers something people like aside from community. It is perspective on this.
City of Heroes is a game. The purpose of a game is to have fun. If you are not having fun change what you are doing.
City of Heroes is about you. Be greedy. Think about yourself first. There is absolutely no one in the world, not the developers, not your best friend, not your siblings and not even your mom, who knows when you are having fun as much as you do. You are best suited to the task of making sure you have fun. You. You you you you you.
I feel absolutely no guilt nor shame when I leave a team with no warning. I honestly feel no anger, hostility nor resentment when someone leaves one of my teams without warning. Please leave my team if you are not having fun. I'm fairly disgusted when others feel otherwise.
I understand no one is perfect and you can't know everything before hand. I understand things will change. But do your best to communicate what you expect from teammates and what you intend to bring to teams. Eliminate as much "un-fun-itude" as possible before it occurs. Stop "un-fun-itude" as soon as possible.
(I should add that when I'm on a Task Force and not having fun I'll ask to leave. If I'm requested to stay because I am considered crucial to the team's success I will stay. Though, if I no longer am crucial I will leave. I have left TFs before they're fully complete after all the "hard parts" were defeated.)

Yeah, I'm glad I'll probably never team with you.
Why not? Could you explain your reasoning? I want people to have fun. I am against people not having fun. I don't want to force un-fun on others. How do your views conflict with my views?

Because you're rude.
I have to say I'm somewhat surprised at Smurphy's statements, because I've teamed with him many times and never found him rude. Then again... I don't think he's ever left one of my teams without announcing it. It's not something he does all the time. And I certainly would appreciate it if he continues the trend of not doing what he just said he does...
How would you like it (Smurphy, or any of the other "I'll just leave" folks) if you're playing a board game -- Risk, Monopoly, whatever -- and as soon as it becomes clear who's likely to win, one of the players walks away without a word (whether they're being a smug winner or a sore loser)? That's rude. I team to play with you. As a team member. If we were playing board games, sports, whatever else in person, you wouldn't walk away from the game without a word. Computer games need not be any different.
I team with the Repeat Offenders.

And rudeness is a way of forcing un-fun on others.
But I must admit there have been times when I've left without explanation. Usually because I felt it was less rude for me to do that than to explain why I was leaving.

You've never played in a rec center on game night, the open gaming room at a game con or online have you? That's pretty much the way it works. Oh you may get a "Gotta go" but usually its glance at watch or phone collect up cards, game pieces what have you and run. (Really common at cons when people want to attend panels or catch an event.)

I have attended many, and my experience differs a lot. I can't think of a time when a person in the middle of an IRL game got up and walked off without a word.
I'd consider anyone who did, to have more antisocial problems than the normal person. Just to stop a game, and walk off without even a 'bye', 'got to catch a bus', or 'you suck' is really the norm of what you've seen? wow.
Online is a different story, I'm much more used to the 'anonymous effect' the internet brings. 90% of the online games i've played at yahoo or the like have ended with 'unexpected' disconnects.
I dont have the same expectations for that type of manners in online games.
I don't suffer from altitis, I enjoy every minute of it.
Thank you Devs & Community people for a great game.
So sad to be ending ):

Explanations? Yeah my cat is on fire and my mother dropped a whole bunch of acid and kidnapped a school bust full of penguins and well I just have to go. That is so helpful.
[/ QUOTE ]
Hell, I don't care what the excuse is. The more outlandish or silly will make me smile and eliminate any irritation. At least they care enough about their fellow players to speak up.
I may even throw them on my friends list because they made me laugh when they left.
[/ QUOTE ]
Heh. My wife has used the "cat's on fire" reasoning for an extended AFK. I say reasoning because it wasn't an excuse, it really happened.
We have a fluffy white cat, with an equally fluffy tail. He's also an idiot. My wife had a candle burning while playing CoH and the cat wandered across the table swishing is tail back and forth.
Apparently he swished his tail a little too close to the candle flame. Did I mention this cat is an idiot?
So my wife smells burning hair and glances over to see our fluffy white cat standing there looking at her...completely oblivious to the fact that the tip of his tail is now merrily blazing away.
So she types "afk cat's on fire",getting several lols from the team, and spends the next minute or two chasing the cat so she can put his tail (which he has now noticed was on fire and was trying to run away from) out.
So, if someone says their cat is on fire, don't be so quick to write it off as a flimsy excuse, their cat may actually be on fire!

We have 4 cats.
One of them is white & fluffy.
She likes to swish her tail too....
But she's the smart one.
The others.... well, let's just say Loki & Pippin earned their names fair & square.
I don't burn candles in my house anymore. *sigh*
(I also have to tape certain cupboards closed, and booby trap my houseplants)
We also have a 20 yr old schnauzer... blind, deaf, heart murmer, arthritis, half toothless OLD dog. He gets himself stuck in corners fairly regularly... recently interrupted us on an ITF when he actually got his head stuck behind a large piece of furniture... oi!

This is mostly my feelings on the subject. I do feel like it's only common courtesy though to at least let someone know that you're leaving so that they aren't stuck wondering whether you're coming back.
I solo because, believe it or not, I am now semi phobic. My better half bought this game, and even though I had never played a video game in my life he figured I would like it. I would look over his shoulder as he played, see all the violence, shudder, and say "NO Thanks"
He did not take "NO" for an answer.
And so, I found myself with a years paid subscription, a global, and a toon.
"OH well" said I . This is something we can do together.
Well, I am cursed with poor hand/eye coordination, and cannot touch type with both hands, and have minor difficulties with targeting. I had never played a computer video game or any video games...and I was rushed into teaming....Lord Love A Cross-Eyed Duck .
After my last horrific teaming adventure, I vowed a vow never to team again, sally forthed into Paragon City solo and learned all the ropes at my own speed...and am now very much addicted
I do chatter with people ingame, and have teamed with a few friendly folk I met this way with no big disaster so I am no longer that noob who was a curse to teams everywhere. . .
. .but .. when I get that pop up that states so and so invites you to a team, or even if someone sends me a "Do you need a team" tell...my blood runs cold, and the hairs stand up on my neck.
Sigh.
Anyways, that is why I solo. My Global is @nova tigress and I play on Victory and Infinity Heroside, Protector Villainside.

I was playing nice earlier. Here's the deal. I don't like teaming. So when I do it is for a specific reason. If I feel the team will not help me accomplish whatever goal I'm going for, then I will quit. I won't give notice or anything. I'll just quit the team. I personally don't care if it is a PuG radio team or a task force. If I don't think the team directly benefits me in the way I want, then I'll just leave.
Do you know why I will do it that way?
Simple, because I see teams as nothing more than fillers to use as I see fit. When they are no longer useful, I leave. That simple. If the leader has a problem and demands an answer, I'll let him/her know. But I won't be nice about it. I will be extremely blunt and critical.
But Munki, why be so mean? Simple, because I play this game so I can have fun. As long as I'm not breaking any rules, I don't give a crap about anybody else. If somebody's day is worse off because they ran across me, I don't care. I see all of yall as nothing more than fillers on the way to accomplish my goals.

I just was wondering, does anyone else get irritated when u finally get into a team, u do 1 or 2 missions, and then u have the "Incredible Shrinking Team" happen? What I mean is u do a couple of mishes with a really good/well-balanced group, and then the people whose mishes u did just leave, without saying anything, yer team just shrinks. To me that is kinda disrespectful and irritating. I am sorry, i had to vent.
