Running from spawn to spawn on a map and defeating them?

I can only think of a few ways to add to that...

1. New tilesets, as the OP suggested (a different backdrop is always nice)
2. Changes to the AI so that it's no longer 'dumb as a box of rocks' as someone once called it
3. More ways to interact with the environment while you're running from spawn to spawn and defeating them

They've added new tilesets (Cimerora) and changed the AI (Malta titans).

and of Lady's #2 there, there have been some significant tweaks to critter AI cycling of powers.

Example: Malta and the Titan Lt/Bosses using their holds much more effectively.

I think we're due for another powerset. A new blast or (deargawdplease) a new MM primary, something along those lines. Melee's gotten some sweet upgrades with DB and SD still sorta fresh, /Pain is cool, so if we're gonna cycle through the set types...Blast or MM is next.

...Which may well be Dual Pistols and Demon Summoning. It'd be awesome to get that sooner than GR, some of us are getting antsy...Maybe a control set to hold us over? Another round of proliferation?

Eh, just musing. I think a new set would be enough to placate the masses, myself included.

I'd like to see heroside revamped. Right now the content is sluggish and dull. Most contacts are virtually indistinguishable from one another, many have overlapping content, they send you on errands to multiple far away zones (why would a person in one city be concerned with activity in another city?), they won't trust you with their cell phone number until you've completed an entire story arc for them (while villain contacts are trustworthy to the point of naivete). Many zones were dead even before AE came into the picture (Boomtown anybody? Town cry: "no thanks"). Let's see some more revamps along the lines of Faultline -- start rebuilding Boomtown, ghostbusting zone event in Dark Astoria a la Steel Canyon fires. Streamline those pesky TFs that nobody does anymore because they're tedious (*coughPositroncough*). Make an issue of all these changes, call it Renewal.

Personally, I want new content from 1-50. I've done it so many times red and blue side, I'm hoping that Going Rouge will do this, a lot of people who have played the game for years (Mainly going off of friends opinions in game) are tired of the same old maps and scenery.

The past few issues haven't really given me much (MA, Day Jobs etc etc don't really add anything to the game that I find useful.), so here's to hoping that Going Rouge is going to be massive. And I don't mean 1 zone with a few contacts, I mean an entire set of zones like CoV gave us. The game desperately needs it.

Don't forget the ability to change size/form coming with the Science Booster. That's a significant change in our character's data file. I'd be surprised if it doesn't include changes we have no expectation for, like additional anchor points to allow more variety in costumes.

Another possible change that would radically change the game:

FULL power customization: changing the effect (not just the color), the origin point, even the animations.

And/or a more free-form power selection system. ("I want a hard-hitting single target blast that recharges quickly and doesn't use a lot of Endurance. Whoa! It costs HOW many power points?!")

This, plus new maps on existing tilesets (new geoms) and new poses for enemy groups in general. (I've seen Lost getting harangued or curling up for a nap on the floor, those seem new with I15).

Yes, the game engine. We've essentially had tons of window dressing around the game engine but not many improvements to the game engine itself. I'm thinking things like new powersets like dual blades or trick arrow's oil slick (new power CONCEPTS), more interactive environments (destructible objects in mayhem missions was a huge step up), etc.

I think he's talking about ways to make missions and combat more interesting. They are really the core of the game - day jobs, enhancement trading, etc. are all nice things, but the majority of our time is spent doing missions and fighting.

I would love to see more enhancements that give extra combat effects or different damage types, especially if graphical effects accompanied those.

They added some office maps a while back, but I would love to see ones that were based on new geometry, not just the same office setups with different skins. (I would love to see RATIONAL geometry - instead of Psychologically Unstable Paragon City Architects Society architecture.)

And combine mission maps with destructible objects! Walls that break when someone gets punched through them! If we could do this, I would welcome accidentally aggroing another group of mobs when I smacked one of their buds through a wall.

Like the OP, would love to see more benefits from coordinated attacks, either solo or in groups. Dual Blades kinda things - attack X followed by attack Y yields a certain effects or debuffs. Would love to see poisons combined with sonic attacks causing the vomit emote (the same one from Pocket D patrons). Freezing someone then applying flames makes them shatter! I'm reaching, but that's the type of thing I'm thinking.

Huh, 4 pages so far and no mention of what I think is core advancement- more zones and contacts. As far as I'm concerned, the gold standard for an issue is a new zone with 4 contacts that culminates in a trial or TF: Hollows, Striga, Croatoa, RWZ, even the reworked Faultline, to a point. (That point being no TF)

We sort of got that with Cimerora, but it was stretched out over a couple of issues; first the TF, then contacts. However, the romanized Posi and GW are not the contacts the Senator promised me. Cimerora continues to have no zone-defining story that progresses to a conclusion in the ITF the way the other zones I mentioned do. There are no characters you can interact with who are affected by the conflict there, so there's nothing to hook players into caring about the place.

We've been getting a variety of nifty sidelines, mind you. And Going Rogue looks like it'll have plenty of new things to do. You can hardly color me unhappy.

But yeah, I'm really looking forward to new places to explore with a storyline wrapped around them.

I've talked to friends alot recently about the need for CoH to improve Quality of Life in the game. Especially a mail system (perhaps a courier service). Of course I can't deny all the improvements to QoL in the game but it has a long way to go.

I'd like them to drastically improve the graphics (a friend asked me to turn up the graphics to max so he could see how the game really looked. I told him it already was ) and drastically improve base building (more Sims style, less zone building tools). It takes my computer 5-10 seconds to change the base elevation on one square on my max size plot. That's not fun if I'm decorating the largest size room possible.

Another thing I'd like to see is random clickies spawning in a non-AE mission (it would give a reason for why some enemy is just waiting in mass to kick some butt in some out of the way room). The clickies should be rare and could give enhancements, inspirations, salvage or temporary powers like the side missions in the bank robbery/safeguard missions ("Hmm, found a Council assault rifle. Found only one clip of ammo with it but it might come in handy anyways."). I think opening it should reward all players on a team a random reward similar to mission completion.

Maybe have mobs going about their daily business until the heroes/villains are discovered attacking when reasonable. I can imagine foes caught sleeping, eating, and umm...other bodily functions...lol.

I mean we can already catch them rocking out to a boom box, it wouldn't be that hard.

I love the game as is but it has a long way to go.

I'm not really sure what "core game" even so much as stands for. The things Cat mentioned may enter into it, but they seem like quality of life more than anything else. What is there to work on, aside from QOL, then? I certainly don't want to see combat change radically or some such, and the Architect IS pretty much what I'd consider a core game expansion.

About the only other thing I can think of is adding more content - missions, zones, contacts, etc. - but that doesn't seem to be what we're talking about.

[/ QUOTE ]

Well, I'm reminded of one review of CoH over on GameFAQs. The reviewer complained that the combat system is extremely simplistic (ie: Click the button and you attack). He wanted something far more complex, probably like what you'd find in Street Fighter, from the way he talked about our combat system.

Can you imagine having to input a 10-key code to use your nuke?

I'd hate it too, but then I'm not a hard core gamer like this guy was acting.

Wait a minute, I just realized any enhancement to the core game will have to wait after GR, as GR is a boxed set. If they made improvements to the core game in it (ie how combat works) then those who didn't buy GR wouldn't be able to play anymore

[/ QUOTE ]
...no, they'd just have to download a new patch like it's always been.

[/ QUOTE ]

Yep, you didn't have to buy CoV to be able to enter the PvP zones. You did originally need to for using SG bases but that was a marketing feature.

New power CONCEPTS please, not just new powersets that clone what other powersets already do with new graphics. Think outside the box, like you did with dual blades. I'm sure there are plenty new ideas you could incorporate into the game

Like what, exactly?

Standing around yelling "FIX IT FIX IT!" doesn't really work if they don't know what you want/mean.

I don't know what all "new concepts" we could come up with. But I am hoping that Dual Pistols plays like Claws or something similar. I'd like to see a Follow-Up power instead of Aim in the set, so it emphasizes quick attack chains. Being built more like a melee set instead of a ranged set would be nice too. By which I mean having 4-5 ST attacks instead of just 2-3, which are all minor to moderate damage.

Too true. Corner + Ice Slick means a serious reduction on the number of mobs pulled as 2 out of 3 usually don't make it to the far side of the slick where they can see you.
