The Heroes You Become (by level)
ITF and LGTF are daily .
I like the write up. I pray that as we get new players that SOME will experience the game this way.

You know I love the 1-25 game hero side, it seems like around 25 when everyone is saying how great the game is becoming, the stories become a little less fleshed out and you lose most of what you have to look forward too. I don't know, starting with Croatoa, the zone arcs don't carry you through their level ranges any more and you are sort of digging around to pick up extra plot arcs to finish out your levels. Of course that is just how I see it.
It's the gameplay that kills the early levels for me. Running out of blue after fighting one group on Heroic. Being defeated because you just kept missing that Lieutenant. Defenses on melee characters being highly inadequate to the task. None of the stories are good enough to look past the tedious gameplay of those levels.

I still find the lower levels fairly entertaining, and I've been around for 5 years. I think it helps that I don't have all that many alts, so sometimes I go months without playing a low level character, and when I do it's a nice change. All that fast leveling.
I love the early levels.
Your powers are a bit touch and go, but you level up very quickly.
I'm currently switching between two sets of alts, one lot in the 40s, the others all lowbie. Both have their charms for sure.
Thats a really cool write up, Prof. I love it.

This... except I haven't been around for 5 years, and I play lowbies a bit more often. (Is 15 a lot of alts? Cuz if it is that is different too.)
Oh bother, the whole post has been routed at this point. Just read this entire post as: the game really does start at level 1.
Thus far, I've only gotten one character higher than 40, my main villain. A couple days ago I took down Countess Crey...
Crey may not be the biggest name in the Isles, but she's definitely not insignificant. Between defeating her, and getting orders directly from Scirocco on top of that, I suddenly realized that Capt. Stormrider is no longer the average evildoer. It definitely makes you feel awesome to realize you've gone from beating up street punks and robbing pawn shops, to rapidly becoming one of the bigger threats in the Rogue Isles...
Of course, you can't be too proud considdering a ton of people have walked this path countless times before, but at least in your own world you're top dog
The off-beat space pirate...Capt. Stormrider (50+3 Elec/Storm Science Corruptor)
The mysterious Djinn...Emerald Dervish (50+1 DB/DA Magic Stalker)
The psychotic inventor...Dollmaster (50 Bot/FF Tech Mastermind)
Virtue Forever.

Depends on what you're comparing it to. I have somewhat over 70 alts, so...maybe.
There I was between a rock and a hard place. Then I thought, "What am I doing on this side of the rock?"
I love it, thanks Professor!

Thanks. I'm not really experienced in writing these kind of things, but it just came to me how the game represents different kinds of superheroes by power level, rather than setting, and which comics are comparable.
The Teen Titans category was kind of filler since I couldn't think of a better one, I'd put them on the same level as X-Men if not higher. I still think the '1-10: Mystery Men' is spot on though.
My first thought was of the type of player who loves and rolls alts and only plays them to ten-ish. I think 'Mystery Men' is right on the money.

To me after level 4 (or so) it gets 'boring' until about lvl 22/27/32 (somewhere around there)...I love leveling up after 1 mission (or 1 mission and a mob or two there while running back to the contact), getting new powers and using those new powers.
Once it takes more than 1-2 missions to level up and get new powers, it's 'boring'/tedious
Especially before you get Stamina and SOs/IOs at 22 (and 25 for the oro portal).

Daily? Wow. I've yet to even do either of them.
A lot of people complain about it, but to be honest I enjoy playing lowbies. It's different from the rest of the game, sure, but everything feels like such an accomplishment, especially if you have no attention span like me.
Although the part I'd rather skip is more the 14-22 level range. The enemies are getting tougher while I'm still waiting on SOs, and the flashy powers are being put on the backburner to get Stamina.

I love the lowbie levels too, that's when things can be a win or lose through attrition, luck and even more luck.
I can't count the number of battles I've had where I beat the mob with a sliver of health left, panting heavily thinking "I don't believe it, I won. . . I WON!! WHOO-there go my organs" *faceplant* and I die from DoT

I have thirty non-level fifties (all of which are 22 or under) on my main server. Couldn't stop making them... can't stop making them... I'm considering actually buying more slots as I've had some cool character ideas and no slots...
(I have three other servers full, both accounts, of nothing but concept costumes... until I have a story, they are just there with powersets/costumes until I can think of a story. And, I'm not a RPer.)

I enjoy playing lower-level characters as well, because when characters' powers aren't fully developed, they're more likely to appreciate teammates' contributions.
[cynicism]Later, when everyone's in Awesome McGodpants mode, other characters are mostly useful to pad spawn counts.[/cynicism]

You obviously havent ever played a defender without a heal in early teams. Its not very fun when everyone thanks the "healers" only.

Actually, I have. My main hero is a sonic/sonic defender, and plenty of people /dumbquit my teams because there was no healer. Usually, we did just fine anyway, but let's lay off the healer hate.
Great writeup, Prof_Backfire. I think you nailed the hero levels.
And people that [censored] most about the lower levels are us jaded vets who are used to zipping around in "Awesome McGodpants" mode (nice one, Imp!). If you're new to the game, like we all were once, it's still pretty amazing to level up fairly often and get a bunch of new powers.

Runaways may have been a better comparison, but I think less people know about them.
I usually solve my Endurance "problems" around level 7 with the use of IO's in all but the most end intensive powerset. Stamina isn't really as OMG must have anymore. To me it never was but It is much less so today. Of course I have high level characters that can finance IO's easier. Not that it is expensive on Redside at all. Blueside it's ridiculous the price of some common salvage but still not super expensive.
Anywho, this is otherwise an amusing writeup.
Y'know, sometimes people complain about this game that they don't feel like Superman from the getgo. As someone who's beaten the ITF several times, I disagree- it's just that, despite the fact that the game's designed to be fun from 1-50, you really don't feel truly invincible until you've beaten the toughest foes in the game. Until then...
1-10: The Mystery Men
Let's face it, lowbies are pretty comical. It's just as well there's no debt because very few lowbies don't die at least once, and you have very few, rather weak powers (and TOs are basically placebos), to the point where ATs aren't very different at all yet. However, every enemy defeated is a big victory, you're dinging often enough to rely on the level-up power boost to turn the tide of a battle, and every new power makes a big difference.
10-20: Teen Titans
Now things are starting to get interesting. You're getting stronger and tougher, and have Enhancements that are actually useful, and perhaps most importantly can get your travel power. While you'll often still be relying on a team, you can solo now if you want to and not take as long as before. And you're starting to get into the big leagues story-wise too- no longer crawling around Atlas or Mercy fighting street gangs and mutants, you're starting to take on tougher, smarter and scarier foes.
20-30: X-Men
Once you hit 22, things seriously start to change thanks to those lovely (but expensive) Single Origin Enhancements. Suddenly, your powers become much more damaging and effective, and you're not dying as easily as before. You should have Stamina by now, and Rest is starting to go unused. But your enemies are becoming stronger to match- nearly every group has mezzes by now, and there's the self-rezzing Freakshow, Psi-happy Lost, and the incredibly annoying variety of the Tsoo. The Smash/Lethal of the Warriors and Family are a relief in comparison.
30-40: Avengers
You're not playing around any more. People are tossing around their Tier 9s and 6-slotting IO sets to improve their chances against Rikti, Devouring Earth, Crey, and even more Freakshow. Suddenly you're pretty much drowning in slots, allowing you to soup up your mainstay powers, or make those new ones even more powerful. There's an AV in nearly every arc, and Task Forces are becoming a norm- especially if you tag along with the 50s to get a taste of what's to come...
40-50: Justice League
Now you're really saving/taking over the world as you see fit, with access to all the powers in your sets, and then some. The ITF and LGTF are becoming monthly if not weekly events, and maybe even Mothership and Hamidon raids if you're into that kind of thing. You're more powerful than ever with full IO sets, HOs and Purples, but there's still so much more you can do- expect one of the first things you do after hitting 50 to be a respec. Your character still has a long way to go, being tweaked and tuned to be as powerful as possible- and you have access to the most powerful enemies in the game to test them against. Prepare to get to know the Praetorians quite well.
