Hi Vitality.

[ QUOTE ]
No...what I mean is you only have to get ONE character to level 50 to open up AE content for your whole account.

That means as soon as you get your first character to 50 you can go and create another character and do AE content from level 1 on.

[/ QUOTE ]

I know you mean well..... but, bad idea.
My family has 5 accounts.
My account(currently in use by my daughter) is about to ding 60 months.
My sons account, about to ding 57 months.
Both of the those accounts have allot of 50's both red and blue side. Now on my other 3 accounts...... they are about to ding 12 months, none of them have a fifty.

Your idea is to limit me from playing AE because I don't have a 50, on the account I am playing on? Sure... lets do that.

BC

[/ QUOTE ]

Yeah I see your point.
I never thought about the people who have more than one account.

Again...that idea was all based on the fact that you have to hit 50 with one character to unlock the EATs.

Now that I know the real reason why the devs said unlocking EATs by obtaining a level 50 was a bad idea I now realize my idea for unlocking AE is bad.

Because even though you have 3 accounts you still can't get an EAT on your third account.

My personal idea, is to cap the amount of xp earned in ANY one mission (AE, TF, radio, whatever) to one level's worth. You still get inf, prestige and what not once you hit the xp cap. That way you have to play at least 50 missions in order to ding 50. This cuts into PL'ing across the board but doesn't stop it.

[/ QUOTE ]

This would be an example of cutting off one's nose to spite their face. I'd rather see solutions that don't f*** over everyone else too.

[/ QUOTE ]

I admit to being ignorant on this, but are there any ways to get more than one level in a single mission without exploiting the system in one way or another?

Yes. A level 1 SK-ed up to a level 50 friend, just running a normal, non-traditional farm mission. This is a non-exploitation, fairly common occurrence in the game. The level 1 will still likely gain more than 1 level.

But isn't that power-leveling? I thought was an exploit of the system.

8 player taskforce team, set to Invincible, player is several levels below the max TF level.

That works for me.

Big team, long missions, early levels, patrol xp/double xp bonus, etc. In short, yes. Several.

No, PLing would be when they just doorsit or whatever and don't do anything.

I think the only way to really curb it somewhat, as someone already pointed out, would be to just remove the Ae building from MI, PO, AP, KR, and GC. That way it forces people to leave the zones and/or actually learn more about the game world. At just shy of my 33 month Vet Reward, I'm all for helping people and teaching them the ropes, but I'm not keen on having to hold their hands because they didn't have the desire to do anything aside from camp in front of the big glowie column. It's that whole "help me, help you" type thing for me.

Exactly, I think it is kind of a trap for new players that it is in the starter zones. Some will realize there is more to the game than this but others will be sucked in and think the AE is all there is. We can already see that happens so this part isn't speculation.

I don't actually object to AE but I do think that it needs to be moved from the starter zones and the introduction not happen till a higher level than 1. That way the player will get a chance to start normal play, [what ever that is. ], before getting sucked into the AE.

Whats funny, is we all thought the PI broadcast was a pain in the rear. Now we get it in every zone because of the broadcasts by people camping in the AE buildings. It's a big reason I stopped showing the broadcast channel all together.

Yep. Since all I ever see in /b is random recruiting spam and ae miss farming there's absolutely no reason for me to watch it.

I don't know what server you play on but the ones I play on don't have people spamming for AE teams in every zone.

The only zone I see that ever has an abundance of those messages is Atlas Park. I can't comment on redside because I haven't played it much since I14 went live.

I think the AE building should be moved to the RWZ. That way you have to be level 35 to get in. At least (hopefully) the toons at least know how to use their powers and can help.

I get so tired of seeing level 10's invite people to run level 54 boss farms. I decline all boss farms unless i know the team. I don't see how team wipes help get xp...

Personally, i hardly ever even use the AE. I'm an OG farmer. lol.

RWZ already has an AE building.

I think it's hysterical that the majority of people on these boards are now condemning MA/AE when some of us saw this writing on the wall in beta and the day it was released. My gawd, I was practically crucified on these fora for daring to suggest AE was killing the game, killing teaming in zones other than AP, and creating a bunch of players who know nothing about the game or playing their toons!

Well now you'll forgive me if I come here to gloat and say "We told you so!" The devs really, really screwed the pooch with this one, and they deserve the blame for creating a system designed as nothing more than an express lane to 50 for anyone who wants in.

I have an idea for the devs: why bother? Why not just let players create a level 50 at the character creation page, complete with all the influence and enhancements they need to really muck the game up? Better yet, sell the influence in the on-line store, since the AE seems to be nothing more than a means by which to make NCSoft's "bottom line" look better.

In the meantime, mapserver crashes system-wide seem to be at an all time high, and there are so many other annoying little bugs in the game, it makes me wonder what these devs do all day. They don't seem motivated to actually fix things, (unless it's nerfing powers, which is the only thing they've always done really, really well).

Well, enough of my rant. Off to do something more productive, like watching grass grow.

Well, that's why you find it hilarious... You're misreading what people are saying. Yes, they're frustrated at the "AE babies", but few to none are saying that AE is "killing the game".

Then you don't team with those people.

Don't deliberately make the game non-fun for yourself.
Do what you need to do to have fun in this game and let others do what they need to do to have fun.

[/ QUOTE ]

Ah, yes, because everyone who goes 1-50 in AE has a glowing icon next to their name that says "AE Baby." How silly of us all to miss that!

Oh, wait, there's not?

So, pray tell, short of being psychic....

Look at the info on a toon and then look at their badges. If they're all AE with absolutely no vet badges, then it's a pretty sure bet these toons will suck.

Well I'm saying it, as have a number of others. But enjoy that "see/hear/speak no evil" approach to life. It seems to be serving you well so far.

So... you're saying that the AE is "evil" now?

Hm. Don't use it. Problem solved!

Seriously - yes, there are some things that can change. They can remove the AE buildings from the low level zones, that would be something in the right direction. But the AE being misused is not their fault - it's people who come to the game with expectations held over from others. They're being introduced to a powerleveling method and ignoring the game.

I DO think that it's time to put a time-based restriction on the AE use, though I have suggested before, a certain number of hours actually played on any toon outside the ae granting entry to it.

It's no guarantee, but if someone rushes to 50 using another method and then plays a character outside of AE, they will at least have SOME idea of the rest of the game. Rushing to 50 WITH the ae, yes, that's becoming a problem - though I do NOT see it as a long-term one, it's temporary.

Best thing to do is take a new player under your wing, give them a grand tour of the world they're in, and show them WHY it's better to do their contact arcs FIRST, instead of using the AE to jet past them and wonder where the "game" is.

Seriously, mountain. Molehill.

Anyway, nice backpedal. You were trying to say that "so many" others in this thread were saying it, not just you. Now it's "Well, I'm saying it..." which means you're back where you started.
