A player who has never left atlas park

These people who've only ever played AE have had a greater selection of content than us old-schoolers ever had.
[/ QUOTE ]
More disjointed than any content we ever played, and they have no clue about the 'world' in which they're playing.
[ QUOTE ]
I haven't run most of the Task Forces in game, but I don't feel like I'm short of stuff to do. Some people only play Melee classes, or only play certain types of Defenders. Some people never solo. Everyone limits their play experience in some way.
[/ QUOTE ]
There's a difference between 'limiting' and 'crippling.'
Personally, I've got to agree with "Set the lower limit at level 10." There's at least a gap there where they'll have to get out of the sewers and learn how to do things like, oh, *find* missions.
Which, IMHO, is also a call for more (official, new/refreshed) lower level content. Who knows, maybe they'll get drawn into some of the *official* story and learn there are actually... I don't know, zones?
[/ QUOTE ]
Wasn't there a recent (within the past few months) dev interview where they said that because the AE offers limitless content that they weren't going to focus on new contacts/missions but rather on task forces and other things?
I'm not endorsing that idea as I disagree with it, but I'm pretty sure that's what I read. And was as disappointed then as I am now.
[/ QUOTE ]
I think I remember that being said, and it sounds great, I do like having the option to play the MA/AE content instead of dealing with certain story Arcs, but I would probably not appreciate the game as much had I not been through all of the other great zones in the game, everyone remembers the first time they went to (insert your favorite zone here) and said wow this is cool, I loved Striga, Croatoa and first time I went to the Rikti War Zone or to Creys Folly and a couple others, and part of the appeal to the game is the large variety of different Enemy groups with full backstory's
The AE adds to that greatly, but I do hope that they get out and check out other parts of the game, and in turn hopefully enjoy and stay with the game as long as I have...

How long are these types of players going hang around?
What are they going to tell their friends about their experience with CoH?
Well you go to this city called Atlas Park where all the bad guys are low level, then you have to go to this building called the AE and there you can fight custom bad guys all the way up to level 50. . . They have a villains side called Mercy Island with the same set up. . . No, that's it. The players say the games been around for 5 years but I don't see how.
[/ QUOTE ]
This is my concern about it. My selfishness about this issue only extends to the bad rep that the game might accrue through such ignorance and that could lead to possible new-players avoiding the game which could haste it's end.
Some of these current AE babies might also quit the game when they discover that it's not all "rain of loot and XP" on the outside... you know, should the devs ever actually find a way to do away with "level 50 in two days!" (if so, the cries of NEEEERRRRF! will no doubt deafen us for months). And then imagine what they'd be telling their friends about this game.
As I chime in with my two cents...
I seldom post and am usually content in not creating waves... but enough is enough. I am HIGHLY outspoken in AP regarding AE farms and farming. I have been reported for griefing farmers enough times I figure my time is coming soon to have my account revoked... That said...
I have been known to stand in AE (especially in AP on Liberty) and openly tell ppl I am looking for a farm team and that I have every intent to report the arc as a farm. Yes, I get a lot of grief from the farmers and AE babies for my actions... but I find it funny that they get to defend their position to play the game they want to play and broadcast farms, but yet I should not get to play the game my way and report them for using content that defies the EULA...
I think one of the biggest issues is auto SK... take that away and many of the issues of AE may also go away... When you have 7 lvl 9's seeking a lvl 50 to unlock the mission that is not a good thing. Yes, go back to the old fashioned farming where to have to have a SK for EACH and EVERY character if you do not fall into the correct lvl range for that mission.
I love the idea that you have to unlock the AE content... The Devs can write a tutorial that you MUST complete to access AE. Write a short arc about the game and make it the first mission you can access in AE... If you don't complete the ARC, then you don't get access. As the arc progresses, so does your avilability to content in AE... This in NOT rocket science. The community as a whole has come up with many good ideas to solve the problem, now it's up to the Dev's to act upon them or do SOMETHING...
Again, just my two cents.. I now return you to your regularly schedule mission!
You've got to be careful what types of missions you're reporting. A standard farm - just a mission with lots of relatively soft mobs to defeat - may not be liked by the devs, but it is legit. The ones that violate the rules are ones such as the recent bubble farms.

[/ QUOTE ]Actually, any mission built to be farmed is against the rules.
It's just that Meows and Bubble farms were also exploits.

Oh heck no. I love auto-sk. If a friend logs on and wants to play, I don't need to worry about finding a mentor. I don't need to worry about searching for a level-appropriate mission.
Auto-sk is hands down one of the best things about AE, farming or not.

I have no problem with this. I make everyone I meet do the midnighter arc so I can drag them on ITF's. I see no issue with an arc to open the AE.

Q) You say not to use the word Farm in the mission or description. Is that how you are blanket banning things?
A) We do not do blanket banning based on keywords or phrases. When customer service bans an arc, they are looking at the arc in question when they do it. I ask you not to use certain words in your title or description because players can still complaint-ban your arc, and then there is the fact that we are only human, and even if your farm arc is a complete joke/parody ABOUT farm arcs, someone might mistake it for a real farm and ban it, causing both you and us a headache in getting the arc unbanned.

....No, they're not. They're not what AE was intended for, but, as long as they're not abusing exploits, they're not against the rules.
Edit: Regarding the quote from Posi there, you're wildly misinterpreting what he said...

That doesn't say that 'any mission built to be farmed is against the rules.' I'd like a list of the rules for AE, please.
My personal opinion only: Make it where you have to be within a certain level to play it, just like a regular mission. Limit the autosk based on your current level. So that you can't be level 5 doing a level 50 mission.

Most of these posts are kind of hypocritical.
Your mostly upset that players are now making the game easy on themselves by leveling up quickly in AE.
It's hypocritical because the real reason your upset is because you want to make the game easier by inviting players on your task force team that know what they're doing instead of just teaching someone how to play and informing them.
