'Twixt'? Anyone remember this guy?
Fan yes, Twixt no.
A very sad story about War Witch and the neglected kitty. http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=219670

As for the paper...where to begin?
How about the...
Or maybe the part...
What about...
No, I just can't. Save for the fact that he played (as has been corroborated by other players) and that the basic Psychological correlation of 'piss someone off and they will be pissed off' exists (which is corroborated by common sense and probably a few actual studies ) I can't find him to be reliable at all. He even references his own work (which are some of his strongest citations)...when did that become okay?
Sorry, bud'. Being a fan don't make his actions morally resistant.
Edit: Well, darn it... I went over a year without a snarky response.
I shall take this part of my post to joke and be merry.
You've ruined me! I shall weep alone.
Never, actually. He's not a doctorate, he is not even a master. He's just some guy playing city of heroes at a university.
Very lame. very, very lame.

Not going to comment on the controversy surrounding any of this (not my place, at all) other than to say the following:
Twixt was a rank amateur compared to Fansy the bard.

*goes to look at the Fansy the bard site, and eventually feels her brain starting to disintegrate*
Wow. Well, if this Twixt-whoever-he-is is only a rank amateur compared to Fansy, DO we have an equivalent here of Fansy's... calibre?

Off-topic: Since you've been over there in EQ, Moo, excuse this stupid question: what in the name of blue blazes is a "loot and scoot"?
[/ QUOTE ]
In EQ, when you died, you had to journey from your bindpoint (usually in a city) to where your corpse was and loot all the gear and inventory. If your corpse despawned (we called it 'rotted') you lost all the gear and whatnot on it.
'Loot and Scoot' was, for PVP EQ players, the equivalent of saying 'Yep, I'm beat. You win. Let me loot my corpse and I'll vacate the premises.'
The alternative was 'corpse camping', where the grief-player would stand over the corpse and attempt to keep anyone from looting it. It was difficult, but if he kept at it, he could keep the original owner from looting and eventually cause him to lose all his gear due to corpse rot.
After rule changes, that became relatively unfeasible as corpses would not despawn for.... I think it was fourteen days? It was still quite possible to ruin someone's evening or weekend, however.
A later rule change, about the same time they eliminated Sullon Zek server entirely, was to create a utility zone where players could summon their corpses without interference, which more or less ended the practice.
I just had to post in an epic thread.
Also, i do remember twixt. I hated PVP but some of my friends ventured to the zones and universally despised the guy.
Also, his name reminds me of the candy bar (i know, i know, different spelling but still..........)
Padding post count FTW!!!!
You could substitute EQ for UO in first few years of that game for your frist 3 paragraphs.

Edit: A little bit more about the guy...
His only degree appears to be an SJ, which is "Society of Jesus".
[/ QUOTE ]
I speak both "Academic" and "Jesuit". What you're seeing is not that Myers is a reverend - that's all his title. He is the "Rev. Aloysius B. Goodspeed, S.J., BEGGARS Distinguished Professor in Communications". The S.J. indicates that the man for whom the professorship was named, Aloysius Goodspeed, was a member of the Society of Jesus, the Jesuit order. Goodspeed was a Jesuit in residence at Loyola in the 1950s, as near as I can tell from a quick Google, and got a professorship named after him that Myers now holds.
Myers does apparently possess a Ph.D., per a post on the university website in which he was recognized for 25 years on the faculty as of this spring. Why he doesn't have a curriculum vitae (academic resume) online is a mystery to me, as is why he wouldn't include the Ph.D. after his name. I'm willing to attribute that to "quirk," since I cannot imagine a university promoting someone to a distinguished professorship without a doctorate. If that's the case here, he's in the last generation where that will be possible.
[ QUOTE ]
This guy's a game addict who holds down a professorship in communications at a private religious university by combining technobabble and psychobabble.
[/ QUOTE ]
Jesuit universities are not places where academics are taken lightly. I have no good explanation for or defense of Myers. But the fact that he teaches at a Jesuit school is in no way evidence that we should expect him to be the troll/hack he's making himself out to be.
Oh, for a little irony, when I was looking up Goodspeed I ran across this:
This is someone that Myers accused of being a griefer for apparently playing a game differently than others.
edited to add: Finally dug up his credentials.
DAVID M. MYERS, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Communications; Arts and Sciences.
B.A., Yale University, 1975; M.A., University of Southwest Louisiana, 1977; M.F.A., Florida State University, 1979; Ph.D., University of Texas, Austin, 1984.
It's 1999. Only an associate professor because he hadn't been promoted to full and given his endowed professorship yet. The Ph.D. from UT was apparently in radio-film-television, which makes sense. If he had a sociology or anthropology degree, he wouldn't be in a comm department.
My postings to this forum are not to be used as data in any research study without my express written consent.
Huh, well I read the article... it sounds like there is a lot of BS here. I know a lot of people, my SG is pretty big, I've been playing since March 2005. But I swear I've never heard of this guy, find most of the "established facts" about social conventions don't seem to match what I know of how people act in PvP zones, and the only evidence I can seem to find for him being reviled is that he was obnoxious on chat.
In short, the article seems like Meyers trumped up what actual happened to make himself feel more important. : /

Fansy: "The greatest train: (ooc) My computer freezes for a couple seconds when I take screenshots, so after most of the pictures you see I am trampled. That's why I didn't get a shot of this one I have a fast HDD, anyone know what would cause this?(/ooc)
I do not have a picture, sirs! And without the poetry skills of Robert Frost I can not describe this 25+ giant train in words. But you can read the comments on it.. It was odd because people stopped complaining for a few minutes."
I am picturing a level 5 training 25 Deathsurges around Cap au Diable, LOL. That would be interesting to see.

Glad someone else came across that as well. Gave me a chuckle. Pot meet kettle, perhaps?
Earlier in this thread I was interested in engaging his scholarship seriously. At this point, I'm unable to do anything but write the man off as a fairly articulate, mildly sociopathic, game addicted hack of a scholar. *yawn*
Squah?
Well? Twixt is prolly in his rocking chair laughing because there are over 100 pages dedicated to him today on these forums if you count all the various threads.

Sand Giants are slightly larger than Death Surge and Oasis is somewhat 'open'. There's a lot of room to run.
So it looks like we have either a professor fanboi or the professor himself on an alt account. Fascinating.
