Non-PvP way to get Shivans, Nukes, etc.

I hear you, Tripp. I haven't entered a PvP zone since Issue 6 went live. I'm not about to now. It just sucks that because I don't PvP, I'm also being kept from doing PvE content, like getting villain accolades and Lord Recluse Strike Forces.

Marshall: 1 explor badge and 1 plaque both in Warburg

Born in Battle: 1 badge for sitting in Siren's Call for 5 hrs(easily doable by starting an ouro flashback and sitting in the corner under the ramp behind the helicopter.)

High Pain Threshold: 1 plaque in Bloody bay and 1 plaque in Siren's call

all of them are completely doable in 30 mins or less except for the 5 hr badge in Siren's Call. which as i pointed out is easy to get.

If there was a way to get hero/villain accolades that involved PvP, I would be happy. I hate badging, its the biggest waste of time this game has to offer. But, I do it because I need those badges to get some of the really neat accolades.

[/ QUOTE ]

Personally I love the badges and think that PvP was the worst thing they have ever added to the game. I'm just glad that I don't have to do something I hate to get what I want.

Even though I never PvP I dont think i could support a change like this as I feel they're (extra mini games with rewards) pretty much part of the reason for those zones existing.

And PvP has stopped me from getting a nuke every now and then but I dont think thats a reason to have them outside of PvP zones.

[/ QUOTE ]

First off. Nukes and Shivans aren't the mini games, they are the rewards for the mini games. And making those rewards available to people outside of PVP won't all of a sudden make people stop PVPing. The people who PVP do so because they like PVP. I don't know anyone who goes to get those rewards and PVPs just for that reason. The people who want those usually go when the zone is dead so they can get them and get out.

2.) Those Zones aren't built around the rewards, they don't exist just because of the mini games. Those Zones exist for PVP. From my understand lot of people go to the zones and PVP and don't even bother with the mini games.

I'm sorry but the PVP community of this game is not that large and the PVP aspect of this game is not that large and Nukes and Shivans are terribly useful in PVE. There is no good reason that these shouldn't be made available as a reward for other things like a difficult task force or trial.

If people are really going to argue that these rewards make or break PVP, then PVPers aren't all that dedicated to PVP. And if PVPers are that dedicated to PVP, then people getting these rewards in PVE shouldn't matter to them since it affects them not one bit.

Which is why MMO's are so fun, because they can attract a very diverse group of people. The quoted poster and I would probably never play the same games I play if MMO's never existed.

I am glad that I don't PvP competatively anymore, because accolades don't mean much now-a-days. I never have to sit through another boring Illusionist farm or Farm Pretorian masks ever again!

Accolades are imporant to PvP - yet I have to PvE to get them. I have to grind badges to get the ones that really help. If there was a PvPable way to get these accolades, I would welcome the idea of a PvE way to get nukes and shivans.

The reason nukes and shivans are in PvP zones is because, if people want them, they will go to these zones to try. They might encounter another player and they maybe, just maybe, might enjoy themselves.

I remember one time on Justice I was working on a Shivian and a villain started clearing out the npcs to assisst me.

We went from rock to and then cleared a base as soon as I was done with the computer I turned on him. He yelled at me over broadcast and I yelled back that he had a warrant.

PvP cracks me up.

They are useful because they are powerful.
They are powerful because you got them from a PvP zone.
If you could get them from a non-Pvp zone that version wouldn't be powerful.
Thus they would not be useful.

Wow, this post is made of fail I'm sorry, but it is.

Over the DOZENS upon DOZENS of times I've made nuke/shivan runs, I've only had to fight other players maybe FIVE times total. In short, i've RARELY had to PvP to gt the PvP rewards. Funny, huh?

So quit being a whinny brat, go when the zone's empty, and get what you want with absolutely no risk.

And if the term brat is disingenuous, and you are indeed an adult, you should be familiar with the concept of working for what you want, and so you do yourself a disservice by basically asking for hand-outs.

Wow, I sound like a conservative... SEE WHAT YOU'VE DONE?!

I'm certainly fine with this change.

While we're changing this, please also create a way for me to level up entirely through pvp play, so I'm not forced to pve.

Thank you.

Well PvP XP would be prone to exploitation from people who stand around and let friends beat em down so they would need DR to reduce the gain from offing the same guy.

This would be hindered by how small the PvP community can be so unless they find a way for cross server PvP zones...

[/ QUOTE ]I'm pretty sure it's been purged by now, but Castle did. He said something to the effect of if it was his choice, he would get rid of them, because of how overpowered they are, and the only reason he lets them stay as they are now is that they're balanced by being in PvP zones.

It was during the I13 Open Beta, iirc.

No one liked the idea of being able to get a Shivan ONCE (per character) outside of PvP? Let us find out just how powerful they are, and we might be more inclined to brave the PvP zone to get them.

No one? I asked if you'd pay merits for it. (Granted I set the price obscenely high initially to see what you were willing to pay.)

That was before the "one time only outside of PvP" idea came up.

How about you brave the PvP zones once and get one yourself so you can find out how powerful they are?

Seriously. Bloody Bay is completely devoid of players... and any you find are probably just as scared of PvP as you are and will probably avoid you.

Heck, if you're on virtue, hit me up with a message and i'll ESCORT you and keep your butt safe from all the non-existent players just so you can see how completely dull it is getting a shivan.

0 merits but would spend influence, is a shivan more powerful than a respec recipe?i don't think so but i would pay up to 5 million inf for one.(shivan) is that more than any other temp power? i believe it is.

So why should a new player without 5 million have to tread through the PvP zones to get the temp powers and you should not? Sorry not gonna fly. Just get them like anyone else. Really it is not that hard. If you hate pvp zones that much then deal with the results of your choice to not enter those zones.

There's nothing to brave. I'm not on Freedom or Virtue (Justice actually), but I can go into Bloody Bay anytime of the day and get a Shivan unmolested. Justice isn't a low population server at all. It's just that even if someone else is in the zone, they're probably after a Shivan too.

Just get past your fear and go in there. It takes all of about 10 minutes and in some ways is easier for low damage ATs now that the zones up their damage and give them freebie resistance.

The City of Heroes Community is a special one and I will always look fondly on my times arguing, discussing and playing with you all. Thanks and thanks to the developers for a special experience.
