I got to run the new TF hero side on victory the night it came out. I do see alot of people in ae but i have also been invited to tons of non ae teams. Victroy is by far the nicest server and as the GLBT server it is the most equality driven server out there

You can't even find good AE farms anymore. Most teams seem to spawn 51 maps full of random bosses or lts and repeatedly teamwipe.

Then again I only join them when I'm REALLY bored. Most of the time I reply "No, I prefer to play the game."

[/ QUOTE ] That is my biggest problem with AE farms. How difficult is it to put together a decent [censored] team? If you(general you) wanna run a 54 boss farm, fine. I have no issue with that. But it's not rocket science to put together a group of people that won't team wipe every mob or two.

Also, WTF is it with level 2-20 teams wanting to do high level boss farms? That makes no damn sense to me. Realize that you aren't slotted, usually don't have your best powers, and pick a more reasonable farm.

I can see that it is harder to find a normal mission team, most people do seem to want to play the AE missions. Both Farm and Story(Mostly farms). The reason is obvious, there is much more reward for the AE arcs. The AE don't drop recipe or salvage drops, but the Influence/Prestige/Experience are all much better. If you can gain more Influence, more prestige and level faster while playing AE than standard missions why would most run standard missions. I for one hope that the AE bldg is not placed in any zone of Praetoria when the expansion drops.I want to explore the new city zones and meet the new contacts as well as run a bunch of new missions. It is allways better to do that with a team. If the AE is placed in the new expansion zones then I would like to think that the AE missions will have no bearing on weather you run Heroic or Villanous missions, that would allow alighnment changes so as to bring characters back and forth Red to Blue,Blue to Red. This is just my opinion and I think that would make the new Expansion much more enjoyable.

You know what I hate? Those stupid hazard zone street sweeping teams. Just going around the same two or three blocks over and over and over. Never wanting to do missions or task forces. Don't they know you get more debt when you die outside a mission? Also, it totally screws up everything for people looking to "Kill 10 This" or "Defeat 30 That". It's just sucks!

lol, whatever. I wish I could play cox all day, I'm lucky to get 3 hours in if I stay up all night. Sometimes AE is the most I can get out of the only 45 min I have in a day to play. It's not all about your needs.

I have to agree with this. My play time has been extremely limited lately. If it wasn't for AE I'd have a hallof a time getting the inf and IO's I'm getting now. For me it's the most bang for my buck atm.

No problems here on Protector. I've barely touched AE in the last several weeks, and have no trouble finding teams or putting them together. Run at least one TF every day, often more. Put together a team to run the new TF within 20 minutes of Issue 15 going live with no problem.

Sounds like you need to re-evaluate your methods of finding teams.

*edited to add: What the heck does this have to do with Archetypes & Powers anyway?

AE itself isn't to blame for crappy teammates...blame the players.

If the quality of teaming has declined since AE has come out, we have no one to blame but ourselves.

I got on a good KR radio team last night and went from 8 - 12.

note-long winded
I firmly believe that the game has/is running longer than the devs thought it would. They released two crappy games that at the time were given lots of attention/advertising. They started working on Champions around that time of TR and the other crappy game.. This is out, how long now 5 years? How long did they think this pve game would last?

This game was-at inception a great PVE game that was simple, you didn’t have to be a l33t gamer to get the game and play well. Sure those early Vahlik or Perez Park teams were a wipe waiting to happen, but they were fun they kept you on your toes and typically you got to learn lots about not only you’re AT but others as well.
A few things prior to AE started slowly killing the game. Various in game nerfs and the player base crying for loot and PVP started killing the game.
Whenever an MMO that is initially designed for PVE add PvP it typically changes the dynamic of certain powers and how they are used. Then the Devs have to scramble to redesign powers, timers, abilities and mobs to accordance.
I mean normal punches dropping toggles but I can shoot you with fire from my hands and they don’t drop? Why even add that feature?

Loot, or rather lack thereof at the beginning-the BEST part of the COH- was great; unlike most MMos(this one is now included) it wasn’t loot driven. Everyone could get the same powers/SO/TO’s or Hammys if they ran those. Now everyone in their mother is farming/has a farming toon to farm for IO crap and drops. AE’s have driven up the need to farm and ease of it.

it’s also lessened the VEATS as well, granted over time you’d imagine they’d be lots of 50s but simply how this game is soo “altaholistic” only the really driven and/or leet d00ds got to 50 first-and I was ok with that. Then VEATS are released and those that got to 50 first were rewarded. As you can see by my join date I joined the game just about when it started and just got my first 50-yep on AE teams.

Yup I fell to the Dark Side, I dusted off my level 20 fire/Fire Brute and just leveled him in record time. At first I was like "dope XP Why even run missions' as most of the AE's I was in were glorified PL's until my Brute at least got to a respectable level and had enough survivability and attacks to help on the AE's. Then it got boring/bland and down right painful sometimes. The past few nights surprisingly I've been in low level pugs, but as soon as I log on to anything above 25 its:

/t want in on an AE farm?
/t lv l54 boss farm want in?
/t all I need are bodies its free Xp/inf I'm pling my alt or what ever..

you guys get the idea

Granted I'm an altaholic and took time off my "main" is still level 46. I'd imagine that eventually I would have gotten to 50 the normal way. I just feel those that rushed through the game clamored about getting something for their trouble-BOOM VEATS released. Then the PVE part of the game got boring for some of those same, they want PVP I want Loot I was housing QQQ etc
The Devs have given the populace what they demanded; they changed this MMO into every other MMO.

We need to start spreading the word that AE farms are NOT the best way to level by any means, but are in fact a difficult, boring exercise in frustration that involve much more debt than XP.

Another AE has killed the game thread?

Really? ANOTHER one?

*sigh* Yup, seems to be the case.

I logged in on Monday and had been on for maybe 10 minutes before I got an invite to the new TF (which is pretty fun btw)

After that my wife and I duoed a couple of our alts for a while.

In the last two days I have run World Wide Red and A Hero's Hero. (Crimson and Maria Jenkins's arcs respectively)

I goofed around in Steel Canyon on a lowbie for a little while, and declined probably 9 or 10 TF invites (all for different TFs mind you) because I didn't feel like running them right then.

I also ran a couple story based AE arcs, one was really cool and fun, the other was completely lame.

Personally, I LAUGH at the people who think that AE farms are the best thing to do in CoH. Sure, you level fast, but it's boring as hell and at the end of it you have a toon that you only have the vaguest idea how to play.

I speak from experience here. I PLed a few characters during the Rikti Comm Officer farce, and I realized after I did it that I now had a level 30 character that I barely knew how to play! And I'm an experienced player. I can only imagine the frustration of someone who just started playing and found themselves in that situation.

In short, AE has not ruined anything except the experience of the people who never do anything else. You know, the people that seem to think they need to get to level 50 as fast as possible and roll a EAT because "they have to be an "I WIN" button, right?"

I have seen so many Kheldians that have no clue what they're doing it saddens me. But the upside to that is: It has ZERO effect on my play experience. I am part of a global channel on my home server so I have no problem finding a team if I want one. And if I can't find a team it's fine, because I enjoy soloing too.

The only way AE can possibly ruin anything for you is if you let it.

I think the biggest impact on the game wasn't from any one mechanism, but the sum of many individual changes. Look at the history of the game....

When Hami-O's were the best "loot", the only "farmers" were ones that kept running Hamidon. Task Forces gave SOs as rewards, and since SOs were easily obtainable, you only played TFs for fun or experience or influence. Regardless of which, you played the task force.

Then IOs were introduced. Now task forces gave a chance on giving a VERY nice rare recipe (like LoTG or Numina's). Since you got a drop at the completion of the TF, there was incentive to: A) run a short TF so you can run more of them and get more drops; and B) run it quickly. The end result was that short task forces that can be run quickly were given priority by the players.

Then merits were introduced to make it a more fair system for getting IOs. It's indeed more fair as you more or less get merits based upon how long the average time is to complete a TF. The end result? All Task Forces are being run as speed runs to maximize your merit potential.

Then AE was implemented. Missions could be designed to maximize the amount of tickets you get in a given period, letting you get many many IO drops. The end result? More incentive is placed on missions that give high rewards with little effort or time.

Every change in gameplay occurred when rewards were given out for completing missions. I'm starting to believe that if ALL recipes and rewards were just made random drops, that would remove incentive to focus on the reward and let players put the focus back on the gameplay. There'd be no reason to try to speed through an ITF because there'd be no reward for doing so. The rewards would come from defeating the enemies inside the TF/SF.

Actually, that could be a good way of handling it..... make it so that rare recipes drop not as a reward for completion of a TF/SF, but only as random drops from mobs inside a TF/SF. The more mobs you fight within the TF/SF, the better your chances of getting rewards.

Arc ID#30821, A Clean Break

The only problem with defeating the Tsoo is that an hour later, you want to defeat them again!

I don't have a problem with AE. I haven't done a AE missions in weeks, but I always get tells for them.

My problem is the new people who just play AE without doing all the other content in the game. The contacts,SF,paper missions, street sweeping, etc etc.

A couple days ago I helped a low level corrupter who followed his friend to Cap to do some AE missions(I don't know if they farmed or not, just my gut feeling.). He got lost, and was asking people at the BM to help him get back to Mercy. I teleported him to the chopper that goes to Mercy, he thanked me, and he went off on his own.

I like the AE, it has great potential for the game. It is the first MMO(that I know of) that has the ability to make your own missions and content. Just has some kinks to be beaten out of it, and I think the devs will work it out eventually.

I wouldn't know about it ruining the game - too new to the game to know what it was like pre-AE. That said, it is a little...disorienting as a new player. I find it a little hard to tell what TFs are available at what level and where, and what to do in them.

For instance, I'd really like to do the Imperious TF to get the roman armor unlocked, but from what I've read about it it seems like a fairly complicated TF, at least the last fight against the Big Bad. Now I'm sure if I managed to pull a team together for it (iffy - I have terrible luck finding/making groups in any MMO) most of the people who joined would know more about it than I do, but there's no way I could really help from a strategy standpoint. I'd barely know what I was doing against the guy.

Directly a result of the AE? Of course not. Influenced? Maybe - if it didn't exist maybe more people would be running outside group things, making more opportunities for the new kids to tag along and learn how it all works. Then again, the harder TFs probably wouldn't be in high demand regardless, so I doubt it'd end up much different for that specific example.

All that said, authoring in the AE is fun, at least. Yay for extra character creation options!

Derailed thread seemed like a good place to semi-ramble.

I personally don’t mind the ability to create your own missions...having played lots of MMO's its clear that the players are on average fairly bright and good at finding exploits or 'game mechanics' and exploiting them (in this case AE's, but you can mention Smoke as well)

I still truly think that they were added to add some longevity to this title; you figure without them the subs would be far less.

Moving forward the ability to create your own content is a fine, fine idea. Let’s hope that COH devs and future MMO's that consider using this implement it better.

I feel that the advent of "loot" attracted the L33t players that-in the first year or two- tended to stay away from this game.

COX has changed from a light easy fresh out-of-the-box MMO to a typical MMO; just instead of Rangers/Fighters and Mages we have Heroes
