To much crap, rather have them all already there. Babs said he would put in what is missing. I sent him what is missing, so i'll just wait for him to put the missing in

That guide is useful if you want to add in unlocked emotes.

Perl's abuse of line breaks, spaces, and tabs are it's complete and total abstinance from using them. Python abuses them the exact opposite way.

[/ QUOTE ]

Actually, the issue isn't one of white space compression. Its more of a fundamental philosophy perspective in the language design. Its often referred to as the "line noise" problem: although perl programmers don't consider it "a problem" they do tend - when religion doesn't get in the way - to recognize source of the perception.

Larry Wall puts it very succinctly: "the essence of Perl is really context sensitivity." Contained within that one sentence is a thousand man-years of language debate. Factor in the additional underlying philosophy that the more common the operation, the less characters it should take to represent it (which is also not-so-coincidentally the colloquial definition of dictionary-based compression), and the general notion that structure should be optional whenever possible, and you have a recipe for a language that has the same utility as Darth Maul's dual-bladed light-saber: great if you are an expert, and suicidal if you are not.

Note: I'm not religious about perl myself: I've been using perl since perl one dot oh.

Honestly, perl has always given me a headache. I don't mean its hard, I mean it literally gives me headaches: even LISP only abuses parentheses, perl abuses the entire keyboard.

[/ QUOTE ]

I actually have to agree with this completely. My head starts to spin just trying to memorise all the various sigils and special parenthesis for special cases and... Ugh! If it weren't required for my job (apparently Perl is just PERFECT for biologists, who apparently also believe in the divinity of Linux), I wouldn't even touch the thing.

I'm probably going to get laughed at, but I prefer the higher-level languages like Java, even though they're much less efficient than the lower-level ones. I like structure that's simple to follow, rather than the horrors of symbology that I have to out-and-out remember. I HATE remembering stuff (which is odd, given how much of this game's number I know by heart) and would much rather remember the basic logic behind them so that I can recreate things instead of remembering them, predict behaviour and even work out things I never learned before.

Plus, I can always use Eclipse to write Java code. Writing Perl programmes and weeding the bugs out is Inquisition.

Some say we have one of the best MMO Dev teams on the planet. (Devs in orbit or beyond are disqualified.) Having read through some other games' forums, Dev interviews and news articles i think there may be some truth to this.

[/ QUOTE ]

I pretty much have to agree with this. As much as people want to accuse our developers of every crime under the sun (that's fans for you), the feeling that we can ask for something and have it at least looked at is something I have not gotten anywhere else on the 'net with any other game that isn't made by two people. Seriously, seeing these guys post and respond always gives me a sense of security that I'm playing exactly the game that I should be

And as I pointed out earlier in this thread these new filenames aren't even y3k compliant.

[/ QUOTE ]
Never mind Y3K. They'll be borked at the turn of the century. However, there's a good reason for this. All of us programmers will be dead by then and we want to inflict suffering on future generations.

I don't know if anyone else pointed this out, but since you all are on the emote topic I thought I'd mention something some friends and I noted with the new costume change emotes.

If Salute, Evil Laugh, and Backflip are activated while flying they leave you in a pose once the animation has ended:

Backflip CC
Salute CC
Evil Laugh CC

We all kind of freaked when we saw them and we were wondering if these could be made into emotes by themselves without having to go through the costume change to do it.

It would also be awesome if crossarms could work while flying so that it looks like the Evil Laugh CC except with the arms crossed.

And one more thing! We also noticed a problem with the Salute and Evil Laugh changes too. After the emote finishes and you're floating there, if fly or hover is turned off you will continue to hover as if the power is still on.

Flight Deactivated
See anything wrong here?

Based on those screens I'd like to make a request/suggestion. Would it be possible to kill the unnecessary FX on travel power like Fly, Hover, Super Jump, and Super Speed? Or at the very least have the FX only show while the character is actually in motion. Or maybe with power customization we could have the option to have them show or not. I know that some people like to have the FX show for cosmetic reasons like the Prestige Slide power. I just think that some of the effects are kind of unnecessary. There may be other reason for having them that I'm not aware of, but it's just a suggestion.

I'll also be posting this in it's proper place. I posted it here first because BAB was here and you all were on the topic.

Odd, ;backflip while floating (Hover) by itself alternates between two animations: one where you launch from an invisible hard ground and land on an invisible ground and then return to normal float animation (hands floating out from the sides). The other launches from what looks like an springy platform from the ankles and lands in a springy way, and then you're left in the floating stance with hands down to the side.

When you use the backflip emote with the costume change, then it's always the second emote (springy launch and landing with hands to the sides).

The ;salute animation while floating acts like you're on an invisible ledge and leaves you akimbo by itself and when it's part of the costume change animation.

The ;evillaugh animiation while floating puts you on an invisible ledge for the animation, and then you come off of it and back to the regular floaty animation. As part of the costume change animation it leaves you floaty (slightly bobbing in the air) but you don't return to normal float animation afterwards, instead, your hands are down and legs are straight.

So, it seems that some of the animations were changed to give floaty versions and not just the ground animations being performed in midair, but some of those got unusual after-stances.

Not sure if I'm late to the party, but... Controllers can now use the Pet Window to monitor their pets, just like MMs. You /cannot/ use /petsay or any other pet commands, but... Yeah. ^_^

That's not that new actually. if you go in the menu you can turn the pet window on for all ATs. Usually helpful for the temp power pets and the like.

I think he meant using the combat attributes like MMs can... otherwise, I'm pretty sure the pet window has been there since CoV was released, if not earlier.

Did Controller Pets always show up in that window, though? If they did... Nothing to see here. If they didn't, well... they do now.

Pretty much anything with Hit Points that was summoned by a power has been in there. Though, it could be considered new if the default for Controllers was switched to 'on'. Haven't checked that yet, though.

Yeah, I know about those. I just want them like the ones that you can just click on in game already. You know, the emote icon down next to chat? Click on that and have them all come up...All of them, not just what is there already.

[/ QUOTE ]

I don't really have time right now to go through the quickchat menu and correlate it with our list of emotes to see what's missing. I also can't add any emote that's restricted by a badge, vet reward, invention, or booster pack.

But if someone would like to give me a list of emotes that everyone can use but aren't in the quickchat menu right now...I'll add them in.

[/ QUOTE ]

Hey BaBs. I remember awhile ago, there was this one emote I cant seem to find.

It had a standing version and a kneeling version to it. It was kinda like research but instead of a book... I think you were welding or using some kind of item.

Did you list that and if so, which one is it?
Also, if its not, am I just out of my mind or was there once that sort of emote?

Thanks,

-Sin

It has not. My plant controller just summoned up two pets last night, but the window didnt open automatically. Sad... wish it would!!

And Sin, if you look in AE it is called welding high, medium, and low... however I dont know if we have access to it or what it would be called to make your toon do it!!

I open the pet window on all of my toons. Regardless of the AT, I always get a pet at some point (shivans, snow beast, loa bone, etc.).

Sorry for crimping the post at the links, but I LOVE those. Can we please please get emotes to put us in those stances without having to go through other emotes? I tried BABs' /em idle1 and /em idle2, and /em idle2 puts me in a stance that I absolutely LOVE and was never able to get by itself. Please, can we have some more flying stances that are already in the game? The old stance that Soul Storm would leave you in would also be very welcome.

Yeah. Hey Babs, do you think maybe we could get a list of ALL of the emotes *in* game please? Like the one we already have, but all of them. There are so many I forget about it isnt funny, and I have always wondered why all the emotes wasnt in the list that you can bring up where you can just click on them instead of having to type them in.

Think maybe, please please, huh huh?

Actually, you have many duplicates in there. You list 285 emotes, but there are only 206 even if you inclue "Dance" "Ledgesit" "Handsup" and "Surrender" which trigger a random one of a subset...
