Costume Contest: sign of the times...

I dont run CCs. I think I did once. Its not my cup of tea.

Which is also part of the reason I dont get in them. I dont need your money.

I participated in only one, with my very first toon, level one, back in early '05.

I didn't win, but as I passed the person who held the contest, another toon shouted in broadcast how stupid my costume and name were.

The toon holding the contest said something to the effect of, "Oh yeah? He looks so stupid I'm giving him 99,999 INFL!"

I was flabberghasted, it was fun, but haven't been back to one since.

I've helped judge a few CCs and have ran a couple of my own, I've seen so many sore losers declaring them to be rigged and that the winner's costume looked like a Random creation. Usually I re-check the loser's costume to discover that its simply awful.

So one of us has incredibly poor taste in design. I'm willing to consider that it might be me, but forgive my bias in suspecting the person willing to whine on broadcast might be equally immature in his fashion sense

I run weekly costume contests redside, and post the results, so you can see the sorts of costumes I picked. Not everyone always agrees with the picks, but there's always someone who thinks they should've won. They aren't "rigged," because if I wanted to steal money or give it to friends I'd just keep the money that people donate instead of hosting CCs.

We should be having one tonight at 10:00 PM CST unless something happens.

I'll agree some costume contests are obviously rigged, not all.

The most rigged costume contest I ever saw was on my home server Liberty. Contestants showed up and lined up as instructed to in broadcast. The judge and winner weren't even present. The results were just announced in broadcast. That's rigged.

Costume Contests

Because twinking your SG Mate's alt should be a public affair.

I've hosted several good CC's. My best one was where I chose the winners based on kicka$$ costume AND bio, then had them answer several questions in character. That one took awhile, but was fun.

I ran one garden variety CC on protector, and one of the losers was incensed that I did not pick him. His costume? A bad green lantern clone.

I've participated in many great CC's and also been in some utter crap-fests. Whether it's great or a crap fest depends on the people hosting the thing.

My SG has run a few small Costume/Story contests (yes, you need both--we're backstory wonks, mostly), and I've contributed and participated in judging. Not only were the contests completely honest and aboveboard, we have generally made an effort to explain our choices. That isn't always practical in large contests, of course, which is part of the reason we stick to small ones.

I don't run CCs anymore (not in 4 years or so) but occasionally if I'm in Atlas on a 50 with a bunch of spare inf. I'll swing by somebody else's contest and offer "supplemental prizes" to costumes *I* like but that didn't make the cut for the official host. Makes it less of an exercise in futility when somebody random hands you a million inf. even if you're not the underdressed ****** or the darktiy dark demon of the week.

I actually had a worst costume contest once. I called it the Paragon city "What not to wear" fashion disaster costume contest. The objective was to make a costume which sucked as badly as possible. Who knew that character creator could vomit up such abominations?

It was one of the funniest things I've seen in a long time.

Worst costume contest I ever took part in:

Took him a half-hour to narrow down to finalists and eventually pick a top three.

Third place: 10,000 inf
Second place: 50,000 inf
First place: An invite to his SG

*headdesk*

Edit: This was way back in the day before bases existed, and it wasn't fake. The winner was SO mad since prizes weren't announced in advance.

...I forgot what experience means.

It didn't take me long to find out that the winners in the costume contests that I was in all had horns, spikes and/or barbed wire everywhere. Taste was not a part of the package.

I certainly hope not. That would be against the EULA and endangering our beloved game.

Maybe Marvel or DC Inspired?

Jay Doherty: Yes, there was this one night that I was ready to go home but had to drop the browns off at the super bowl before I left for home. While on the throne it hit me. I stayed for a few more hours and that why we have the pain pads in the game.

There was a massive CC held by DATA on Infinity once. It was HUGE, and very much being judged well... Until a member of Vai Victis Sinistis (sp?) started whirlwinding all over and causing a ruckus.

So in case anyone is worried about crappy rewards or rigged contests, I just finished one tonight. 10th weekly CC redside. You can go there and view the winners for all CCs we've hosted.

I've got a toon w/ the exact same costume and name on two servers, Your Neighborhood It, he is strange looking, his bio is outrageous, and he's not even a random button!

But ya, when I win a cc, people are either like, "WOW, that's original!" or "WOW, I lost to a "random button"!"

I'm going to vent right now, but i was on Freedom earlier tonight, and the hosts were giving out 100 mil to one person, I"m not going to mention what the winner looked like because that doesn't matter. However, during the cc the host was just telling everbody that their costume was ugly, or something in a negative conotation, i really didn't mind that...

Anyway, one person was recruiting for his sg after the cc, and the host of the previous cc said that "(super group name) here, sucks!".

After the previous cc holder said his part about the other person's sg, the other person (the one trying to recruit) told him to shut up, in a more colorful fashion...

After that, the CC holder and the rest of the judges simultaniously said "petitioned" or "reported".

The next 30 minutes were these 3 (?) guys defending them selves on reporting the sg recruiter.

The previous CC holder said that inappropiate language wasn't good for his children, this was followed by someone saying "then turn off profanity".

The previous CC holder went on to say that he doesn't know how to work his options.

Another person said, "Your account has the profanity off when u start the game... u had to turn it on at some point..."

The three judges of the previous CC, then went on to act the fool.

Anyway, this all was going on over request (i've no idea why lol), i then "told" everyone to put the 3 judges on ignore, and that hopefully the sg recruiter wouldn't get banned.

Also, this may be the worst part, the winner of the cc was asked to join the cc judges' sg (if u were given 100 mil, why wouldn't u?). He was also promised a free power leveling to lvl 50. The winner was a brand spanking new player, who was asking for "report teams" right after his new sg mates said "report/petition".

I then sent the new player a tell explaining what a report/petition was, he then said "oh no, i don't want to do that".

I'm sorry for venting, but I feel, even though the sg recruiter was using "language" (but who hasn't once or twice, right?), he shouldn't have gotten reported.

I just hate bullies, and i felt this particular sg recruiter was done a great injustice, this kind of thing just makes me furious!

again... sorry for venting

Hey Dispari, thanks for running the CCs over on Virtue. Though I have yet to attend one, I'm an avid fan of that particular thread.

I have lost quite a few.
I have won about 10 in the last 5 years.
I knew none of the people running them.

What purpose would someone have to run a fake one?

I don't think it makes sense to suggest they are fake.

Judges have odd, or bad taste maybe.
But Fake? Makes no sense. Why?
