Power Customisation: One step at a time.

Y'know, we should have figured that if we were gonna get power customisation, the devs weren't gonna do it all in one go. First we had weapon customisation, once the devs figured out how to change the skin for each weapon. Now, by some trick or another, we may be getting power tinting. Yes, we're not getting animation or enemation point changes yet, but in a few months, who knows?

It's probably the best way to do it- as the devs figure out each trick to allow us to customise our powers, they perfect that trick and release it, rather than trying to implement full customisation in one go. It'll take an incredible amount of work, but this way we see the payoff sooner.

Just think what they could do if they had gone on a hiring spree and drastically increased the size of their staff, and were writing their code from scratch instead of using a competitor's game engine?

Oh, but I've said too much already.

And hey, who's to say that when they went through and changed the power's colors to point to a database entry rather than something static, that they didn't do the same for other aspects of power animations for future expansion?

"Cautiously optimistic" would perfectly describe my feelings toward further power customization.

They've done the first part. I don't get what you're saying.

I believe that was a "subtle" hint at a CoH2.

Subtle, where? The only one I see had a big flashing sign above it reading COH2!

The devs decided to put the "devs hate villains" rumor to rest with CoH2 by not including any villains for them to supposedly "hate."

orly? BAB said right here:
"I think the idea here is that if you have a hero character, who's never going to 'go rogue' and become a villain, you could instead continue to do heroic things and eventually become an exemplary hero...at which point, you'd have access to rewards not available in other ways.

Whereas exemplary villains would just get shafted cause we hate them. "

If we get too much more customization in this game, it'll make meow farms look like nap time at kindergarden. People will be in Steel Canyon going all SimCity on the buildings and cars and stuff.

Of course when this game was being built from scratch, the game engine was their own. We still didn't have power customization then. Just sayin'

[/ QUOTE ]There's actually going to be rather little to do, most of the game will be focused about working a 9 to 5 job and living in a small, single person apartment.

So it's basically the Sims.

I consider CoH and CoV the same game, and CoH has been out longer, so it all gets lumped in the same thing. I supose I could call it City of Superpowered Personages who do Good or Evil. But that seems rather cumbersome.

Once you are moving past tinting power colors, and you move into changing power animation... Isn't that pretty much you being a developer at that point?

I guess it makes sense, we write our own missions now, we should go ahead and make all the animations too. Slowly the Developers will turn its subscriber base into its work force. We all have jobs at paragon studios, we only have to pay 15.00 a month plus tax for this part time job that won't do jack for us on our resume'. Awesome!

Honestly I don't want custom animations, even if they could implement the feature, seems like you would run into problems with people trying to shorten animation time, activation time etc, and even if it wasn't all that, sounds like it would be a lot of work to animate each of my characters by myself. Or I would have to select from pre existing animations and how is that different than what I have now?

Give me color tintable powers and I'm happy.

I'd assume that you'd chose from a set of standard animations that all last for the same time.

Regarding the i16 color customization I was wondering if anyone knew whether the colors were linked to the character themselves or to the costume?

It'd be awesome to be able to go from a regular red flame throwing hero to a demonic looking version of yourself spewing black flames.

Can you do different weapons with different costumes? If so, I would say that the Power Customization is tied to the costume, not the whole character.
