Hero: Valkyrie because I like Norse Mythology.

[/ QUOTE ]

It's unfortunate she doesn't have anything to do with Norse mythology. She's a Tech Origin hero, filled with nanites. Even her name is an evolution of "Valerie Kellum".

Valerie Kellum was an up-and-coming archeologist exploring Scandinavia when she discovered what she first took for an ancient spear. A more careful examination led to the realization that the spear had a technological component. She traveled around Europe looking for ideas about its origin and ended up in a local Crey facility. When a Crey security team tried to take the weapon from her it activated and injected Valerie with advanced nanites that transformed her into Valkyrie, an extraordinary warrior with a completely different personality. She broke free and traveled to Paragon City where Positron is helping her come to terms with her new identity.

You'd think when a person is infected by lobotomising nanotechnology that other heroes might, you know, help her out?

[/ QUOTE ]

She still has the look though.

Villain - Silver Mantis
She's a scrapper's dream girl, what can I say?

Hero - Breakneck
He's one of the few "Hero" npcs that actually feels like a hero. I like to think that's just because the devs never really show the assumed sacrifices the living heroes are making to keep heroing or what not, but truth be told most of them really come across as if they *like* being a cut above the wretched masses and seem more like they're on a power trip than actually making a sacrifice.

Gotta say, I do like Captain Mako for all the reasons others have pointed out, but my all time favorite remains...

Doctor Aeon! I admit to having a mad scientist fetish, and Aeon is so incredibly entertaining, especially the way he tends to foil his own plans and his dialog never disappoints.

"Help me! I'm too intelligent to die!"

"Uh, I was just about to, uh, trick them, yes.
Well, never mind. We've got to shut down the PTS before it esca...um... aah...Explodes! Yes, before it explodes."

"This is just hopeless. Why do I always have to be the smartest person around?"

Dr. Aeon: I can't believe I just told them how to escape like that! Okay, just erase this recording and we'll start again.

Bane Spider Executioner:Uh, sir?

Dr. Aeon: What?

Bane Spider Executioner: Uh... You said you wanted to transmit this, uh, live...

Dr. Aeon: AAAAH! Shut it off! Shut it off!

The man has CHARACTER, and I honestly look forward to each interaction with him as an NPC and that's a tall order for a game like this.

Hero side, Dark Watcher or Lady Grey stand out the most for me, as they're mysterious and a touch darker than the spandex wearing freedom phalanx, and I like anti-heroes more than the four color crowd. Dark Watcher's story about wandering through alternate worlds including his stint on the Rikti homeworld facinates me. I'd love to hear that story.

Other then the headband wings she just looks like someone in really terrible power armor.

Hero, definitely War Witch. Once they killed her off, I lost interest in the comics.

No real favorite villain. I do remember liking Arbiter Sands' dialogue, and Nemesis is entertaining.

I have a series of favorites. I don't know if I can say that I have a very favorite hero or villain, but here are some of my favorites:

1. Synapse. I didn't think that I would be able to write him well in my Mynx story, but once I got started I found that I really loved the guy. He's got a lot of heart, and I really love his relationships with Positron and Mynx.

2. Clockwork King. Maybe I didn't write a full novel about him (looks at Michelle) but I wrote at least two long novellas about him. He's one of two villains that I badly want to see redeemed in the game-- and there's something tragically human about this poor lonely, mad soul who's nothing more than a brain in a bottle with no hope of love or a normal life ...

[/ QUOTE ]

You've got two novellas, I've got one novel. I'm sure if we did a word count, we'd be about the same (TCoSR is ~85000 words).

Hmmmm... I'm thinking a specialized sort of NaNoWriMo come November... not just writing a 50k+ word novel, but writing a COH novel! Pick a character and go...

I don't think that my CK stories would match that, most likely, but if I toss in Kat Scratched Fever I think I'd have a better shot of equaling your output (18 chapters about two characters I really didn't think that much about before I wrote the first chapter!)

Speak to me of this NaNaNoo thing ... ;-)

National Novel Writing Month. Starts 12:01am November 1st, goes til 11:59pm November 30th. You have to write a 50000 word novel in 30 days. You can prep stuff beforehand (outlines, character concepts, etc), but you can't write a single word of the book until 12:01am Nov 1st.

I say that we do a version of this where you have to write a CoH/CoV novel, either about an established NPC in the game, or like I did with TCoSR, your character interacting with the CoH/CoV world.

My favorite characters (Off the top of my head):

Villains:

Seer Marino
Wretch
Mako
Scirocco
Psymon Omega

Heroes:

War Witch
Horus (Was that his name?)
Apex (Notice that I'm the only person who likes this comic... Even if the plot was a tad rushed.)

I'm pretty sure that was their last comic anyways. Losing interest in something that's finished doesn't seem unreasonable.

Dr. Aeon is a pain in the rear to beat, I'll admit. But his quotes add much-needed humor to this game! As does Arbiter Sands.

[ QUOTE ]
Arbiter Sands:

"I go to Grandville for some decent coffee and this is what happens?"

"Well, adopt, adapt, and improve, I suppose. At least it will give me a chance to re-organize things after we clean up."

"Though no doubt I'll have to annihilate the persons responsible first. How bothersome."

"Well, I think I've had just about enough of this."
"For Arachnos, etcetera, For Lord Recluse, etcetera, etcetera."
At 75% Life: "You seem to have harmed me. How importunate."
At 50% Life: "I don't recall if I've told you that you vex me."
At 25% Life: "Do you people have any idea what this is doing to my schedule?"
Defeated:
"Indeed, you are terribly vexsome."
"And I don't say that to many people."

After defeating a hero: "I don't mind telling you I took some degree of satisfaction in that."

[/ QUOTE ]

As for heroes, I like Manticore's dark/roguish air. And I also like this quote from Statesman:

[ QUOTE ]
Recluse is defeated, and his plans are in ruins. Honestly, I wish I had been the one to do it, but... that's pride talking.

No, this is your day, this is your moment to shine! Look over this great city, and see what you have done today! Every person who lives in freedom from this day forward owes that freedom to your valor, your determination, and your heroism. Recluse may yet return, but you have shown the people of the world that they need no longer live in fear of his name. For when evil arises, it shall be confronted and defeated by the champions of this City of Heroes!

[/ QUOTE ]

EPIC!

to TO THE END!
Villains are those who dedicate their lives to causing mayhem. Villians are people from the planet Villia!

I liked it, reading it sometimes helped get me revved up for the game back when we didn't have nearly as much fun stuff to do as we do now.

The Villains have such fun dialog, even though I've never seen higher level missions than 21 redside I can say that having experienced a few tf's with em, Aeon and Arbiter Sands are my faves. Particularly Sands, since he is actually freaking HAWT.

Heroes... War Witch, definitely. I wish that we'd get more with her somehow.

Back Alley Brawler but I'm biased because of his test-server antics

And then there's DJ Zero but he only keeps sending me on these missions to beat up on poor Snaptooth. I think that guy has a real mad on for snappy.

I dunno about heroes but one of my favorite vills is the Clockwork King. One of the few groups I don't get bored of fighting, unfortunately, they arn't around long.

I also like Dr. Vahz, though the minions themselves suck..the Dr. gave me one of my first oh [censored] moments.

Favorite villain hero side: Doc V. Mad scientist creating armies of techno zombies. I so wish that faction was 1-54.

Favorite villain villain side: Black Scorpion. Mostly because I think he looks sweet, and I have tail envy. Now there is a costume part I would love to see added.

QFT. I'd love to see more zombies at the higher levels of different and changing varieties.

Villain: Aeon, simply because its so much fun to try and count the amount of times you beat up on him on the road to 50, on a single toon. "Go beat information out of Aeon." "Go get this report from Aeon." "Go force Aeon to write this report." And he's such a good sport about it.

Hero: I'd have to say Breakneak. I'm a sucker for the 'old school' tragedy stories.

Synergyblast: 50 Energy/Electric Blaster (Virtue)
Arbiter Bailey: 50 Bane (Virtue)
Mr. Bailey: 50 Merc/Dark MM (Virtue)

Hero: gotta be Hero1 the tragedy he sacrificed himself for the entire planet. then forced to be the Rikti's champion, The Honoree. When you fight him his subversed psyche starts to come out and he says.

"You must: stop me. please stop me!"

or something like that. Even turned all riktified he's still a hero. I sometimes have to psych myself up to fight him.

Villain is a lot tougher.

I honestly have to say Silver Mantis just cause she has some of the best dialogue in the game.

Favorite Hero is a tie between Back Alley Brawler, because you can't beat Scrapper Lock! (or this!), and War Witch, because she's awesome enough to be in two places at once even though she's dead. The cannon info Manti posted for Blue Steel is pretty awesome, though...

Favorite Villain is tied between Dr. Aeon, because he's just funny as hell (and responsible for a lot of my villains, as my Stealing Science arc tells *cough*ShamelessPlug*cough* ), and Vernon von Grun, because he, too, is funny as hell. von Grun's arcs are the best I've played, both Hero and Villain.

Plus, von Grun gives out the Best. Temp Power. EVAR! BEES!!

Scirroco is my favorite of the signature villains and mostly because not only is the the well-intentioned extremist type but he also is the only one who acts civilized. The rest all are brutish and/or petty, while Scirroco shows that being a jerkass is not a requirement for being a villain.

[/ QUOTE ]

I don't really care for any of the Signature people at all, but if forced to pick one I also choose Scirroco, for the reason above. But I don't find any of them particularly interesting. Sorry, CHV writers.

My favorite character in the game so far though is Ashley McKnight. She has a matter-of-fact way of speaking that's refreshing. I especially like the line "This task is not full of combat and near death experience. So, if that's what you're after, perhaps it's best you go elsewhere and steal something or mug someone. " I keep wondering how she'd be as an opponent, or an ally.

Heh, as far as costumes go, it's Foreshadow all the way. That dude has the slickest costume in the game by far, and quite honestly is better than in many other games period.

Not sure about story arcs, but there's info on the official website detailing his origins- he grew up in an orphanage and was treated terribly.

Think half of X-men villains.
