How many would still be here without the market...

I know i wouldn't. I can honestly say that the market is the single only thing that has kept me around this game for 18 months continuously. is it just me, or are there other Ebil marketeers out there that feel the same way?

i wouldnt say the market, but the whole io system and the ability to build your toon. With out the Market though i would be forced to run the same content i ran 4+ years ago to obtain the stuff. Which i would NOT do.

There's a game to these forums?

I'm the same way.

I think it is quite probably that I would have cancelled my subscription by now if not for the market. The market isn't the only thing keeping me in the game... but it is a big part.

I need the market because I want inventions. Without a market, inventions would be hopeless.

But it is the inventions and the benefits they bring me that really engaged me in the game 2 years ago.

Before that I had very little influence, only 1 level 50, only 2 accounts, and only 111 characters rolled up. Now I have over 1 billion inf on each side made primarily by selling my drops and selling crafted IOs across my 256 characters across my 3 accounts with my current 8 level 50s (and 2 in the 45+ chasing in on it).

Now since I suspect what you may be asking is actually more along the lines of whether we would be here without playing the market, then I am not one of the ebil marketeers in that way so I would be here since I don't play it, I use it. But I do know it wouldn't be very useable if it weren't for all elements using it including the market gamers.

I don't hate having to use the market by any means, but the market is a means to an end for me. That end is inventions, and the market is just how I get most of them.

It does help make getting them somewhat engaging on it's own, though. I won't say I think the net result would be quite as satisfactory if somehow the market was just a store. I think the very fact that you can achieve little (or big) victories on the market do make it a mini game many of us enjoy to some degree.

But on its own that wouldn't keep me here.

I would probably still be here, but I definitely wouldn't enjoy the game as much as I do.

Hard to say. I'm by no means a marketeer, but I do enjoy the aspect of buying and selling stuff to make my characters incrimentally better. I still haven't become bored with the regular content, but if I hadn't spent so much time at WW/BM and the crafting tables, who knows, maybe I would be.

Means to an end.

Way to sell my items to others for influence with which I get my desired items. Sitting on big piles of inf is fun, but if I could get all ingame items through Merits/Tickets/whichever that would be fine too.

I'm only two months in but the market was responsible for month 2, yes 100%. The fighting part of the game is almost unbearbly grindy, but playing the market is a nice distraction and has the side benefit of getting me all kinds of shinies to play with, making the fighting part of the game more fun. Go market!

I would still be here. My Coalition is probably about 95% of the reason I still find the game fun.

I Enjoy the markets and inventions for sure, but on the stay/go slider, they dont even raise a blip.

I'm with Cat on this: people are most of the reason I play, and the market is just a place to buy IOs. If the market didn't exist, IOs would be extremely difficult to make and I would have stuck with SOs, and nothing would have really changed from the first couple years I played.

I'd still be here only because this is one of the very few places that's not blocked on my work's internet.

Inventions are great, but I think Im still here IN SPITE of the market, not because of it.

Theres plenty of things that feel like work in the real world to do, so doing more of it in game does not appeal to me as a well spent night of my off-work time.

That said, I do use the markets, and have been ebil in my days, but find spending time in game in the markets very dull compared with beating up mobs and clicking buttons.

If all I have to log on for is market transactions, I aint loggin on that day.

I would still be here enjoying the game in one form or another.

I will admit that once i got the hang of the market It has provided another level of enjoyment even thought when the invention system first came out I swore I would never touch it.

The market is just one aspect of the game that I enjoy, if it was gone there are other areas of the game that would take up the time that I use marketing.

For me it was pretty clear. After almost three years of playing, having done the majority if not all of the content on my 20+ 50's, with at least one toon of every AT in the including EPIC's, I was preparing for a break from COX.

I was going to let my two accts. go and not renew them until I played I14 in open. Creating stories that had been on my mind the entire time I have been here was the medicine I needed to revitalize my interests in COX.

The best thing for me is the villian Market is finally a healthy market and that is big part of keeping me here. However, being able to use AE to do my own thing is a boon and without it I would have left the game.

The development team and this community deserved better than this from NC Soft. Best wishes on your search.

If there wasn't a market, there would just be some other way to get what we want.

I find it very difficult, no, impossible to believe that we would get the invention system the way it is now with no effective way to make sets. Perhaps a recipe-swap that lets you trade extras in, or a more aggressive merit system, or whatever.

The market is still fun to screw around with, so I'd miss it for sure. But it's not the only way to make the invention system possible.

The vast majority of my 84 characters use the market (a couple lvl 2s that have never budged are the slackers). I enjoy it immensely, to the point I'm going to go ahead and get Field Crafter for all my Justice characters, primarily with patient overnight bids/crafting for profit.

But I'd still be here without it. I've been with the game since I4, and it provides a nice getaway from reality. Plus sometimes the explosions of nerd rage on the board are fairly entertaining (someone really has to tell the anti-farmers that it's ED, PvP, and the Market that ruined the game, not AE farms).

Before the market, I was playing for a month, letting my sub lapse for a month, etc. Since I started playing the markets, I've played for 16mo straight. I'd still be here w/o the markets, but I wouldn't have 2 or 3 of my vet badges, and I sure as hell wouldn't have as much fun just playing the game either (being able to afford whatever you want tends to make the rest of the game smoother too).

The market would most likely be replaced by a system where you can trade dropped recipes for recipes of the same rarity that you actually want, or something similar.

The market is among the worst ways to implement giving people what they want. Look at the AE ticket system and purchasable salvage. That's much closer to how the system should work instead of a market.

And what makes you think we're not also playing those?

Tho, truth be told, I got sick of EVE a while back. There's much to be said about playing a poor econ sim that lets you shoot lasers out of your eyes.

1 - Market being the reason I stay is not the same as market being the reason I play this game. Subtle but important distinction. I play because there are multiple fun things to do so I never get bored with just one. The market is one of them, so is killing bad guys. Neither is enough to stand on its own for me.

2 - Superior economy simulator doesn't neccesarily mean more fun. I played Eve for years and it's amazing, but recent patches have killed the fun factor. That's why I came here in the first place, and I've heard similar from others,

The market is fun for a lot of ppl. Don't be a playa hata! :P
