My guess would be stalkers.

Heroes.... kinda balanced but if I had to pick, it'd be blaster.

Villainside I'd have to say Stalker. People got used to the Stalkers being overall unenjoyable to play with on teams because their sustainable damage was so low and their burst damage created a tendency to constantly look for places to Hide. They have since been buffed so that they don't depend on the burst damage or Hide as much, but they still haven't recovered from the bad rep they previously gained.

Heroside I would have to say Tanker. Though there are players who love to tank a lot of players seem to want more action than playing the meat shield. Tankers are actually a lot more versatile than most players give them credit though.

Arcanaville had a post obout this topic a while back, but it must have gotten purged.

I thought that her study results indicated that (other than HEATs & VEATs, eliminated because they weren't available to all players as unlockables), the lowest population of any AT was Dominators, although I think those were followed by Stalkers & Tankers.

And I took Castle's recent attention to Doms as an indication that they were pretty unpopular and could use a boost to help make them more popular.

The latest numbers I saw had Dominators as the lowest non-epic AT overall, and Defenders as the lowest non-epic AT heroside. It's all the letter D's fault.

Also note that "the latest numbers I've seen" was a post by BAB on AT percentages that Arcanaville quoted, and is well over 8 months old.

I can at least back up the defender half of this anecdotally, as whenever I was team building defenders in any particular level range would have the smallest number of players in the search window.

...I forgot what experience means.

I was pretty sure it was the Dominator.

Other than VEATs? VEATs are really powerful and a lot of people play them.

I'm pretty sure the least popular ones are Dominator, Stalker, Defender, and PB/WS.

VEAT population is still way below the dominator population. That whole "having to unlock it at 50" thing.

The last four slots in the "most played" were taken up by all four EATs. They were the least common ATs.

I periodically run a headcount of ATs on Guardian heroside (I'm not interested enough in villainside to do it there) during prime evening playing time. I just query each AT in the team search screen and include the "truncated" count at the bottom.

Disregarding the EATs, because they're always much, much less played, they're not available to everyone, and I'm not that interested in them, I generally see the following proportions, consistently, year after year, from most to least:

Blasters (just a slight numbers advantage over the next spot)
Scrappers
.
.
Controllers
.
Defenders and Tankers almost always tied, they're usually very, very close.

To my memory there has never been a time I've done this that Blasters were not number one.

However, it's possible that they are overrepresented -- that proportionally more Blasters are logged in than are playing. Blasters are the first AT in the heroside selection screen, so people reserving names or solely using a character for market slots might find it easiest to click on Blaster in the character creation process. A stretch, maybe, but I can't rule it out.

As I remember it, Doms were the lowest of the "main 10" ATs. The lowest hero AT was Tankers, but they were still higher in population than the most popular villains (Brutes, I think).

I believe that Doms and Stalkers were both a good bit below the other 3 villain ATs, but this was just after the Stalker buffs, so I'm guessing they've picked up a decent amount since then.

Please try my arcs:

Arc# 63910 "Why Do Bad Girls Like Bad Boys?" (length=Long, levels 40+)
Arc# 401500 "How to Be a Successful Professional Criminal" (length=Very Long, levels 1-10)

Actually blasters are either one or two I believe, with Scrappers being the other one.

BackAlleyBrawler at one time answered this by saying Kheldians, but that would only be natural since it has a prerequisite to even get one. But I think this was before the VEATS. You know what? I'll be it's still Khelds.

Doms and their numbers may decrease come I15 I fear. I would say on heroes most likely Khelds although there has been a nice increase in their numbers since the buffs and I14 launch.

The development team and this community deserved better than this from NC Soft. Best wishes on your search.

Why would they decrease? Most dom sets are getting a buff. I for one know my plant/thorn dom's actually going to get played more than some of my corruptors.

As others have mentioned, blasters are actually one of the most popular, if not the most. Straight forward and easy to understand. Although anecdotal, I'd guess they are the most common pick for new players. I see a player with no vet badges or someone admits they are new to the game it is almost invariably a blaster.

I have noticed not a lot of Plant Dominators out there, but thats just me

either stalkers or doms. Unfortunately despite a massive overhaul as well stalkers are still pretty much on life support.

If they are ahead of doms now, they probably won't be after the i15 dom buffs. Not that I really think i15 dom changes will make much of a difference to dom population (relative to the game), just that both AT's are so low that even a small change is "significant".

Considering "popularity" governs who gets looked at I guess stalkers can expect further buffs at some point.

Khelds are far and away the least played ATs across the entire game, being played about a third as much as the VEATs. I forget which of the two was on the bottom, but the less common one was played fully half as much as the other.

Blasters have almost always been on top. Defenders have almost always been on the bottom. Tankers usually come second to last but have a decent lead on Defenders.
