Did not know that!

Bwaaaah.

[/ QUOTE ]There was someone else that said that it was a trinity of developers that was keeping their interest in the game low. Unfortunately, the only two I can remember being mentioned are Emmert and Roper, though the third was supposedly in the same vein. (to the poster)

Q: How do you wreck an Abrams?

A: You crash into another one.

I would pay for a lifetime subscription to this thread.

I know everyone agrees with me.

Admittedly, Bill was part of Warcraft, Starcraft, and Diablo, but everyone remembers your last project and your biggest failure the most. For Bill, both of those are Hellgate

HanbitSoft had a large part to do with it though.

After what happened, I'm sure any US company will think twice before partnering with them again.

I'm not sure it was a dev, but their PR guy, that Ivan somethingorother (Mr. "<censored> LAN!") who got that response. We found out about him when we started hearing about them coming onto here to solicit players, since he wrote the "apology."

You get to play the game.
You get free updates to the game.
If you buy certain game packs or boosters, which come with game time, you get extra powers that only get for buying that version or booster.
If you want, you can buy six months or a years subscription at one time.
I buy it in six months chunks myself.

That money goes toward improving the game.

If you don't like the entry price, feel free to play in another MMO. I'm pretty sure both Champions Online and DC Universe Online will have a monthly fee as well, so I don't think you are going to have much luck finding a superhero MMORPG that you can play "forever" for $100 (your game box price plus times two and a little extra).

Good luck with that.

The game itself, actually, was taken by one of their creditors or partners or some such, and is apparently being re-developed or continued in Korea. Whether the US or EU will ever see it, or things like the founders offer will be honored still, nobody seems to know.

[/ QUOTE ]to expand this bit because i remember this drama, the korean publisher, hanbitsoft took over development and tried to reopen it in the us, but the co-publisher in the us and i think europe, namco, wont let them. us ip's are blocked, and apparently korean login processes are pretty hard to circumvent.

This thread has officially killed any hope I had for Champions not being garbage. Guess it really will be Age of Conan with Super Heroes.

But really, for $180 a year, I get way more enjoyment out of CoH than I ever have from any three games.

Well, it is possible that those two other games might offer lifetime subs as a promotional gimmick for a short period of time to attract players when the games are released.

I wouldn't pay for that, but I would pay for a lifetime sub to watch Zekiran and BadStorm wrestle in a kiddie pool filled with lime jello . . .

Zek can be our version of Lita from the WWE.

All is good then where do I pay for my lifetime subscription for that?

[/ QUOTE ]"Attracting players" is not the reason lifetime subscriptions are offered at the beginning of some games' runs. The purpose is to quickly make up for the money lost during development when the game had no income.

I understand that, but I think it could be another factor they consider when deciding if they want offer lifetime subs.
