disagreeing with his position doesn't make him a troll.

Why are you addressing me? I only asked The Player if that was what he was implying. If you want to confront someone then address the person that made the implication, not the person asking for clarification.

Sorry, I was quick replying (usually I'm better at marking that). I was actually replying to The-Player, who's post is above yours.

OK. that's cool then. All is forgiven. (Hands Gold a cookie)

The only reason your above us is because of that soapbox you're always standing on.

Please show me even one MMO that offers a Lifetime Subscription option.
[/ QUOTE ]
Lord of the Rings Online has offered a lifetime sub in the past. I almost bought one but decided I couldn't justify the cash outlay.
Wizard101 allows you to "buy" parts of the game. You can play in a subset of the game for free. You can subscribe for a monthly fee and have access to the entire game. You can buy credits and use the credits to purchase permanent access to a zone in the game. (Imagine spending five bucks and buying The Hollows.)
[ QUOTE ]
Oh, and look: GuildWars doesn't have a monthly fee either!
And that one's published by NCSoft as well!
[/ QUOTE ]
Guild Wars is not a MMO and ArenaNet has never advertised it as such.
[ QUOTE ]
At heart, all of you agree with me. A one time fee would be far better. You may be ridiculing it, there's nothing wrong with the idea. The continuous fee is more ridiculous than the idea to replace it with a one-time fee.
[/ QUOTE ]
Nothing ends a thread like someone telling me that no matter how I SAY I feel, the poster knows that I REALLY agree with him. I'm only disagreeing to be cantankerous because I didn't think of such an obviously "right" idea first.

Not a chance.
I would pay $5 if I could burn down Perez Park, though.

And that is the fact that you can't buy it. This game is great, dynamic battles, good graphics, vast area, billions of options, but it lacks the opportunity to buy it permanently.

Darn, then I guess it's back to playing Barbie's Internet Dream House for you!

Trial accounts are a great way to try out a game without committing to buying.
As to monthly fee's, all I can say is I hope we make it worth it to you. There is so much of the game that you have yet to see I hope that you give us a chance. If you compare us to most console games which have a price point of about $60, then with the initial purchase of the game that includes about 3 months total play time ($30 for the game + 2 monthly subscriptions). Most console games don't hold my interest for 3 months (or 3 weeks even, which is why I have largely stopped playing console games).
I was originally quite skeptical of monthly fees too, way back when I started playing MMO's. However at the time one of my all time favorite pc games (Ultima 7) was basically being remade into a MMO with UO and I was so excited it overcame my initial reluctance.
More than 10 years later I basically only play MMO's these days, and have over 22,000 hours of play time in various MMO's. I figure I've paid an average of less than 20 cents an hour for my entertainment. To compare a move runs me about $5 an hour (even if I rent it's $1.50 an hour), console games typically run about $3 an hour, playing pool runs me about $7 an hour, and if I golfed it would be about $20 an hour (on public courses). It helps that I work on an MMO now so my costs are even lower than that $.20 an hour.
Either way you choose, good luck! And I hope you have had fun in your time with us regardless.
Thanks,
-Mod8-

[/ QUOTE ]Major failure of an RPG with MMO-like multiplayer. Failed so hard that the developer company (Flagship Studios, origin of the term "Flagshipped") went bankrupt.

None of the metaphors in my mind regarding Hellgate London are suitable for posting in this forum. Basically, the game featured an anemic playerbase, minimal content, horrible gameplay, and very little anything else.
Imaging playing a single-player game with dozens of other people playing the same single-player game at the same time.
I'm in the same boat as Mod 8
- Even though I play console games, I much prefer MMOs because i look at it this way:
I spend $50 on a console game: Get about 8-20 hours from it
Pay 15$ on an MMO- Has enough content to last me the entire month
Easy to see which deal is better

Initially set up with some of the refugees from Blizzard under the name Flagship Studios, the game was supposed to be set in a post-demonic-invasion London (with potentially other cities added on to other games.)
There were a lot of screenshots, and not a lot of info for a while.
Eventually, they became a single-player-sorta-MMO-kinda-subscription bas... er, conglomeration of a game. The game was horribly buggy at launch (and even through the first several patches,) and had serious performance issues. (I could, up to the time I uninstalled it... eh, maybe two months ago now, even fully patched, walk into a station and see NPC names with no NPCs models.)
You could play single player.
You could go multiplayer on their servers, but not get some of the content.
Or you could purchase a subscription, get extra storage, special goodies, access to new areas (I think all of one was ever released) and more, through monthly fees or a "Founders" lifetime subscription.
(Notice the missing multiplayer option - LAN - despite having single player playability. The main PR person, ivan somethingorother - also now working at Cryptic - said, flat out, "Who cares about LAN, F*** LAN" to the people asking about it. Wonderful attitude.)
Eventually, the game just crashed and burned. The founder members got bupkis for their "faithfulness" or whatever to the game, content was nonexistant, single player was always at least a patch behind (never got Stonehenge,) bugs didn't get fixed...
The game itself, actually, was taken by one of their creditors or partners or some such, and is apparently being re-developed or continued in Korea. Whether the US or EU will ever see it, or things like the founders offer will be honored still, nobody seems to know.
