Thank you BayBlast for setting the tone of the topic. I can't believe I got carried away with it too.

To clear things up: I never wanted to go on a grand offensive. I simply intended to ponder the posibilities. Now that you have given more information (information that I lacked) I can see the error. I underestimated the cost of a permanent account.

I still have my doubts about the game, wether it's worth the money, but the game itself is good. I wouldn't mind if there was an offline version released.

Can we forget about this topic and all calm down?

This is silly OP. I bet you 10$ if you play for a year then you will continue playing. I mean are you just gonna stop playing?! I cannot comprehend. In your case you are much better off paying the 15$ a month because you are not really sure if you want to be a permanent player. As for justifying it. I cannot think of a better deal for entertainment; when I first started playing I thought I was paying 15$ a month for I8, LOL Imagine how happy I was to learn that we get expansions every so often. That, I thought, was remarkable.

One reason I *choose* (being the operative word) to play MMOs and pay for the fee is the promise of server security. Now, if an MMO charges a fee and doesn't secure against hacks and bots and other exploits like some other MMOs (mostly item mall economy) then I refuse to play them.

If people don't want to pay the fee then thats their choice but they shouldn't have the right to bash a game or spread anti-game sentiments based on a choice of their own making.

So I guess in essence I agree with you.

Um..er...uh...Oh Yeah..

I pay by the year on several accounts. I see the logic that a lifetime sub at this point could spell doom. I see how monthly fees keep us in the voting majority and all, but if I had had a chance to Life It!, I would on all accounts.

The game itself can get boring and tedious, so just step back now and then. The community is an awesome lot, so even on a break it's nice to come hang out.

I haven't stopped playing since August 04, and if they offered lifetime subscriptions back then for $200-$300, I wouldn't even have considered it. It was hard enough to convince myself to go for the 3 month plan instead of monthly. I had absolutely no idea I (or anyone else) would still be playing almost 5 years later.

There is no such thing as an "innocent bystander"

The advantage of a monthly subscription model is that if the Devs want to continue to have a job and a paycheck, they need to constantly improve and update the game to keep subscriptions steady or improving.

If everyone paid up front, human nature, such as it is, would create a sore temptation for the Devs to lay back and not hustle since they have all the money they're ever going to get.


Besides, I've always taken advantage of the savings of a yearly subscription and the even further discount for a year's advance that was part of the Winter's Event promotion. I got close to a free year out of taking advantage of those deals over the past 5 years.
